Would your son share a bed with a friend?

Just curious! At 18?
DS had a friend round last night and he stayed over, they shared a bed.
DS is bisexual.

I will of course ask him when he is home. I know no-one knows but him, but DH reckons it's just a place to crash situation. But at 18 I wouldn't have shared a bed with a friend platonically.

I am just being a nosy bugger admittedly and I fully acknowledge its non of my beeswax if he doesnt care to share later! 🤣🤣

I stayed at friends houses a lot in their single bed with them when around that age. Why does it matter. Why do you have to ask him

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 01/02/2025 14:01

😄😄 no girl, they're getting it on! x

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 01/02/2025 14:02

I shared beds with friends and still do now when they stay. Nothing untoward.

Oh, I'm 39 and last week shared a bed with my friend. Unless he has a spare bed in his room, where else would a friend stay?

Because he's autistic and never showed any interest in having a relationship at all so I'm just curious as his mum!

I'd like him to have a partner to share things with. He can be quite isolated.

At 18 I was barely in my own bed. I still share platonically with people. Does your ds have 2 beds?

CurlsLDN · 01/02/2025 14:04

Omg you can not ask your 18 year old son whether he got any action last night! Respect his privacy!

you could keep an eye on the friendship and perhaps ask him later down the line whether he’s developing a relationship with X, but honestly leave him to it and he’ll tell you whatever he wants you to know when he’s ready

MirandaWest · 01/02/2025 14:05

DS is 21 and has shared beds with friends and it is all platonic

No but my other son always got the camper bed out for his mates to sleep on.

I’ve shared a bed platonically with both sexes at multiple ages.

BanjoKnockers · 01/02/2025 14:10

I think girls sharing beds is different (and less likely to be sexual) than boys.

My ds has too. They usually top and tail though. Unless they pass out drunk 🙄

crazyday24 · 01/02/2025 14:18

My 16 year old Son shares a bed when his friends come round. Never thought anything of it!

mindutopia · 01/02/2025 14:26

Dh definitely shared a bed with friends or with BIL probably into his 30s. He’s not bisexual.

Same.

Cheesetoastiees · 01/02/2025 14:35

Meh I shared a bed with same sex (& opposite) friends loads in my late teens, early 20’s. I probably still would if needed. Used to love the early morning run down chat after the night before if it was after a night out.

TheNuthatch · 01/02/2025 15:10

My DD's share beds with their female friends all the time.
My DS absolutely would not do this past primary school age.

Linux20 · 01/02/2025 15:14

My son is 20 and at uni. Just last night he had a male friend up from home who shared his bed. They’ve also rented Airbnbs for weekends away and had 6-8 lads in 3-4 bedrooms.
I’ve also done it back when I was at uni and still do it now if a group of friends go away for a weekend.

omg yes, so fun. And looking through all the photos on a digital camera deciding which ones to upload to FB 😂
Even if we slept separately we used to all come into one person's room (whomever hadn't pulled!) and climb into bed with them once we woke up in the morning for the debrief!

TeenageRooster · 01/02/2025 15:19

Nope mine wouldn't. But then he has a sofa bed in his room so there isn't the 'excuse' of only having the bed. Does your DS have any other place the 'friend' could have slept if staying over?

Gumbo · 01/02/2025 15:25

Mine wouldn't. He's 19, went interrailing with a friend last year and they never shared any beds. Now he's at uni and has a double bed, but when his friends come to visit they sleep on his floor not in his bed. Same goes when he visits them.

MrsJHernandez · 01/02/2025 15:45

I used to share beds with friends. I don't think there's anything weird about it at all.

nex18 · 01/02/2025 16:08

Yes he does, apparently 3 in his double and 2 in the single in the spare room last time he had friends over.

DeepFatFried · 01/02/2025 16:14

My Ds and friends all share beds when they visit each other at Uni. 2 in a single bed, 3 in a double has been known.

All heterosexual.

But at 18 I am not sure why ‘of course’ you would ask him or why it matters?

BrightonFrock · 01/02/2025 16:25

I will of course ask him when he is home.

”Of course”? Bloody hell, grow some boundaries! What are you going to do if he says it wasn’t platonic - bake him a “Glad you finally got your pats” cake?

If you don’t want to mortify your child, keep your snout out!
