If you could disappear for 48 hours, where would you go?

Seriously considering just buggering off for 48 hrs to leave all the crap behind, just to get a break. Somewhere with no demands, where I don't have to talk to anyone, i can have calm, somewhere to reflect, somewhere restorative and good for the soul. In my mind it would be beautiful, warm and sunny. The food would be wholesome. I could forget all about the real world. Just for 48 hours. In reality it's likely to be a travel lodge next to the motel

Does such a place actually exist? Where would you go?

My favourite spa hotel, I often do it for 24 hours so it wouldn’t really be a secret place as everybody who knows me know I love it there.

I did a wellness retreat last year and it was lovely. I've also gone to a remote area and stayed in a nice hotel and done some hiking during the day while enjoying lots of comforts too

BIWI · 31/01/2025 15:47

Whereabouts (roughly!) do you live?

Where was the wellness retreat?

BeStrongAndCourageous · 31/01/2025 15:49

I did 48 hours by the sea on the West Sussex coast just over a year ago, just me and the dog. We walked for miles along the coast each day. It was restorative.

Sounds like an exclusive spa hotel somewhere that the climate matches your preference! Mine would be in a forest, quiet enough that I could go for a walk by myself, but the hotel would be super luxe and have a restaurant with attentive staff and no need to be bothered by other guests. They could also be there, just not people I know and no need to interact beyond basic politeness.

Now I want to go away too…

Greece!

DaftyLass · 31/01/2025 15:51

I do this regularly, I go solo camping two or three times a year.

I don't have to talk to anyone, answer messages, or even be considerate of anyone's needs.
I can get up when I want, eat when I want (or not) and generally sit and enjoy my campfire.
Sometimes I read, others times I just flip in my hammock, by the shore.

Alone time is what stops me from being crazy, it's the recharge that lets me give my best, the rest of the time.

anonny55 · 31/01/2025 15:52

I think about this regularly! Honestly just a stay in a premier inn with a book for a couple of nights would be enough for me🤣 just pure silence and bliss in the room alone, nice shower order takeout and just slob in bed relaxing

MiddleAgedDread · 31/01/2025 15:54

a nice little property by the sea with plenty of footpaths nearby, and take some minimal prep required food and a couple of bottles of wine

AcquadiP · 31/01/2025 15:55

Rome.
Fantastic food, superb architecture, plenty of places to visit (the Sistine Chapel is breathtaking.) Lots of cafes where you can sit outside and watch the world go, which in Italy is a cultural norm: Dolce Far Niente meaning the joy of doing nothing. Great shops for leather goods, jewellery, perfume if you fancy a bit of shopping. 🇮🇹

I’d go to a luxury hotel suite, and have all my meals from room service. I’d read, watch TV and sleep.

Augustus40 · 31/01/2025 15:56

A cottage by the sea.

Greece!

Oooo you beat me to it!!!
Had a very restorative solo holiday there many years ago. Lots of sun, swimming, reading, walking and amazing food. Heaven 💙

when i inherited a little money from my father i used it to do just that.I had been through so much crap in my life.I just needed some time to myself so i booked a week away .I went to new york by myself left my other half with our daughter. It was summer i went to the beach ate breakfast at a cafe , explored.I got a subway pass so i could go everywhere. Sometimes we need time to our selves

TheChosenTwo · 31/01/2025 15:58

I’d go and stay with my favourite person, a few hours away. If I needed to keep my location a secret they wouldn’t tell a soul, we’d eat, drink, walk their dogs and laugh til we cried all weekend.
But for ease, the local premier inn would do.

spacepies · 31/01/2025 16:14

Im single and childless so i can bugger off when i want and as i please.

mommatoone · 31/01/2025 16:20

What about an air b&b ? ,somewhere near the countryside or coast.Home comforts without the hassle, nice long walks etc.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 31/01/2025 16:24

West of Ireland, Connemara area. Sorry its not much use to you in UK, I'm based in Ireland. What I did learn is there are loads of retreat options available, from weekends to week long and everything from grief therapy to weight loss to general 'get away from life'. I googled wellness retreats and went from there. We did hiking, yoga, meditation and lots more. I also spent a lot of time reading alone and it was lovely. I hadn't gone to socialise but ended up meeting some like minded people and enjoyed their company.

Thewheelsfelloffthebus · 31/01/2025 16:28

The weather where I am says sun on Sunday (and we are by the coast). So while you might not get warm, you could aim for sunny and go near a beach if you're in the southeast.

It's beautiful going for a walk by the sea when the sun is shining even if it is bloody freezing

Meadowfinch · 31/01/2025 16:30

Englishman's Cove in Tobago.

Me, a towel, a book and a pair of sunglasses. No phone.

NippyNinjaCrab · 31/01/2025 16:34

Take me too @SchoolMumOnTheRun I won't be any bother 😂

Seriously, if I could board the dogs somewhere for 2 nights I would love to just buzz off to a wee isolated cottage at the beach in UK or a spa for a night.
