If you could disappear for 48 hours, where would you go?

Seriously considering just buggering off for 48 hrs to leave all the crap behind, just to get a break. Somewhere with no demands, where I don't have to talk to anyone, i can have calm, somewhere to reflect, somewhere restorative and good for the soul. In my mind it would be beautiful, warm and sunny. The food would be wholesome. I could forget all about the real world. Just for 48 hours. In reality it's likely to be a travel lodge next to the motel

Does such a place actually exist? Where would you go?

I'd go to the seaside for a couple of days..... just walk along the beach and listen to the waves 🌊🐟🐚🦀 (love Scarborough especially the Victorian tram):🥰

AdoraBell · 31/01/2025 16:37

Florence/Rome/Milan.

Auburngal · 31/01/2025 16:40

Somewhere with free money.

Borka · 31/01/2025 16:40

Dungeness

ARichtGoodDram · 31/01/2025 16:41

At this time of year I'd go to a little cottage near Aviemore I've stayed in a few times. So peaceful

I prefer crisp cold and snow to hot though.

OP- is there any chance you can just go away for a bit? A couple of years ago I was very burned out. I have a disabled teen who is very labour -intensive and a husband who is unable to work due to chronic illness. I was very close to breaking down with my workload.

DH thankfully saw i was at breaking point and told me to just go away for 2 days. I felt I could not due to all my duties but he more or less bullied me into it. I went to London for 2 nights and saw all the museums I could manage and had takeaways and wine in my room in front of the tv. Now I have a non-negotiable 2 night away annually. It's sacrosanct and my lovely DH is even more intensely involved with ensuring my 2 nights than I am. One year I went to Windsor Horse show and toured around Windsor. One year I went to Bath. This year I am going to the Oxford Literary festival.

It just sets me up for the year tbh.

We all need a break. And I think women and mothers generally speaking feel we can't just step out of our lives. But hopefully we can- and more to the point- YOU can. Thanks

Wow, there are a few of us then! Some lovely suggestions here. It would have to be somewhere without too many bendy/trendy 30-somethings doing yoga, because I can't even touch my toes these days and quite frankly I don't need reminding. Perhaps the air bnb suggestion is the way to go. Maybe one with a hot tub and a view.

Scarborough is nice. I go to Withernsea further down the coast twice a year with my dog in July and September. Fantastic beach walks and the sea air is rejuvenating.

2001

Can I come? I had a great time that year.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 31/01/2025 16:51

I did it in December. Was going to be visiting some family over the weekend, so took the opportunity to spend a couple of days in London beforehand. Left DP and DD at home, and just indulged myself. Went to all the boring museums that I love and DP would hate, sat in the pub with my book in the evenings, and just recharged.

Was utter bliss!

Hyperion100 · 31/01/2025 16:56

Just look on ryanair.

You can get to barcelona and back for under 70 quid.

The weather where I am says sun on Sunday (and we are by the coast). So while you might not get warm, you could aim for sunny and go near a beach if you're in the southeast.

It's beautiful going for a walk by the sea when the sun is shining even if it is bloody freezing

Green with envy....😜

Madre123 · 31/01/2025 17:02

One of the islands off Scotland. Small cottage, log burner, food hamper and a book. Perfect ...

museumum · 31/01/2025 17:04

The beach. Definitely at this time of year.
if it were summer I’d say the mountains but it’s too cold up there right now.

TheDogsMother · 31/01/2025 17:09

Near to home the coast in West Sussex, beach walks at West Wittering and country walks. A bit further then Seville and amble for hours stopping at tapas bars along the way.

NippyNinjaCrab · 31/01/2025 16:34

Take me too @SchoolMumOnTheRun I won't be any bother 😂

Seriously, if I could board the dogs somewhere for 2 nights I would love to just buzz off to a wee isolated cottage at the beach in UK or a spa for a night.
X

Il come too if you don't mind :) it'll be great we can all read our books in total silence. Maybe the occasional "anyone fancy an orange juice / coffee / cocktail?"

CrushingOnRubies · 31/01/2025 18:09

Probably most mumnetters idea of hell but...

A dog friendly spa hotel on the coast

stillnotdark · 31/01/2025 18:09

Somewhere that wouldn't have a long journey and by the sea with a view, which part of the country do you live in OP?

Rogerisourlodger · 31/01/2025 18:28

I'd stop in the Martello tower on Aldeburgh beach.

Aw that sounds perfect to me right now! And @CrushingOnRubies has just added a spa to our beach ⛱️
The beach is my ultimate chill out place to go whatever the weather xx

@NippyNinjaCrab @Wavescrashingonthebeach

Sounds like Bliss
I know a couple of places which might fit the bill

stayathomer · 31/01/2025 23:05

Any hotel that isn’t an absolute Kip!!! Beachfront preferably!

Costacoffeeplease · 31/01/2025 23:28

I go to a spa hotel fairly near to me, I’m in Portugal.

Lovely food, Espa spa treatments, and peace and quiet. Bliss

unsync · 31/01/2025 23:30

Somewhere warm and sunny with no people where I could just float in a pool looking at blue sky.
