Does anyone have any yellow metanium?

Spares or perhaps from when your kids were small- It’s been discontinued :(
My 9 week old has the worst nappy rash ever (horrific open sores)- various steroid creams used, dermatologist appointment, A&E visit.
The one thing that seems to be working is mixing the Hydromol we got from the dermatologist with yellow Metanium and I’ve just used up the last of what little I ha for my older child which was leftover..
I will happily pay obviously and for postage etc, but I cannot afford the ludicrous prices people are selling tubes for on EBay and Vinted.
Please PM or comment and I’ll get into contact.
praying on the magic of the internet ❤️

@HundredPercentUnsure theyre having trouble sourcing the ingredients I’m sure I read! Unfortunately Bepanthen was one of the first thing we tried!

Has anyone been able to buy any from the website linked above it keeps kicking me out when paying.

ChaoticCrumble · 25/01/2025 21:32

It’s prob not real/not in stock as there are plenty of desperate parents who would have tried already, surely?

That's what I guessed, looks like a legitimate chemist. Must be showing out of stock but not actually there.
If anyone knows of anywhere it is online, we are desperate for some too.

FictionalCharacter · 25/01/2025 21:45

In case you haven't already tried it, the only one that worked for us was Burts Bees Diaper Rash Ointment. Nothing else available at the time worked at all. I even kept buying it after the kids were out of nappies, for sore skin problems of any kind.

Whachamacallit · 25/01/2025 21:48

If you can find a compounding pharmacist they may be able to concoct a substitute for you. Most pharmacists are only licenced as dispensing pharmacists, to sell pre made medications.

Thank you so much for replies. X
Will give the Sprilon Spray a mention at my next GP appointment.
My thinking is CMPA through my milk as it’s not as if I leave her in poopy nappies for ages- always quick to change, tried all nappies, tried all the different creams, never used wipes and nothing helps, it just kept getting progressively worse which was heartbreaking! So week 2 of cutting out dairy and it’s not spreading anymore - just need to concentrate on the healing so we can shall in the long run whether that manage been the initial cause!

My first ds had these issues due to cows milk protein too, I don't have much dairy in my diet so it was less of an issue until he went onto formula. He's now 21 and doesn't have to actively avoid it, he doesn't eat cheese or drink milk but happily has ice cream 🤣
With ds2 we did goats milk instead, much gentler.
I can't help with the metanium but I second the Weleda Calendula cream, I use the adult one as it's the only thing that doesn't set my skin off

mamaduckbone · 25/01/2025 22:02

Sorry I can't help but can't believe it's been discontinued - ds1 had the most horrendous nappy rash and it was the only thing that worked. He's 19 now so none left over unfortunately!

nomeslice · 25/01/2025 22:06

when my newborn DD had really persistent nappy rash, even metanium didn't help. I tried all the creams but what did eventually work was a thin layer of lanolin nipple cream with sudocrem over the top (sudocrem contains lanolin) it worked as a good barrier that really didn't rub off and didn't allow the poo to touch the sore skin. hope you get on top of it soon!

Saltisford · 25/01/2025 22:26

We use sudosalve and that seems pretty good!

Lexie365 · 25/01/2025 22:29

Pm'd you x

Sophie3003 · 25/01/2025 22:48

The only thing that properly helped my daughter and she was absolutely red raw was nappy free time, even if they were and poo everywhere this was the only thing that sorted it. I laid her on a towel for as long as I could allow at a time and it healed (had tried all the other creams possible, under the care of the doctors etc)

mrsmacmc · 25/01/2025 22:56

We found CAVILON ointment much better, our HV suggested it when DD had terrible 🍑 rash. You can get it on prescription or from Amazon

I second this, amazing stuff! DD used to get bad sores round her neck where her rolls were and this cleared it up completely overnight it's always my go to with anything like that now

starlight26 · 25/01/2025 23:48

Omg you poor thing.

This was the ONLY cream that helped mine many, many times.

I'll have a look in my storage areas tomorrow but if I have any it may be out of date.

It's incredible! I found it really good for insect bites too.

Oblomov25 · 26/01/2025 03:44

Sad it's been discontinued. Shame.

WannaWannaSweetie · 26/01/2025 10:43

They've discontinued it??

That's MADNESS.
What's wrong with these companies.

Sorry OP - I'm not being very helpful. Hope your little one is ok!

WineIsAFruitRight · 26/01/2025 10:48

The same happened with my wee one and it was awful. One thing that helped was I literally kept a nappy off her for the entire daytime. I just sat with her on me for hours on end and let her wee and poo onto a muslin so she had as much air around her bottom as possible. After a few days doing that, plus the metanium, thrush and steroid cream it finally cleared up.

Oh, and we later found she had a cows milk intolerance!

RandomMess · 26/01/2025 10:54

The Sprilon Spray worked better than metanium for mine.

I think possibly as it's a very thin mist it actually allows the skin to breathe without the pee and poo being able to reach the skin. Also it means you didn't have to rub on the cream which was clearly painful.

They cannot get consistent supply of one of the main ingredients anymore so they probably didn't have much choice.

Firsttimeposter10 · 26/01/2025 13:22

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but have you changed nappies? My little boy had something similar which turned out to be a chemical burn from
pampers nappies at 2 days old 😩 health visitor & gp put it down to nappy rash & gave steroids which made it 10x worse. We ended up taking him to hospital & they told us nappy cream/steroids will only make the open sores worse. They advised us to use water, cotton wool & dermal 500 lotion to wash/change his bum (no wipes) & prescribed orabase to mix with Vaseline & honestly it was a life saver! If you can’t get metanium maybe ask for orabase? hope your wee one is better soon! X

Eleyevee · 20/08/2025 07:58

Just wanted to say, there is a new nappy spray out by Ashton and Parsons - it’s called soothing nappy spray. It has the same ingredients as Metanium, it is unbelievable!! It’s a spray so don’t have to wipe it, it’s white so nothing gets ruined. Dare I say, it cleared up my daughter’s rash faster than Metanium did?? So good! I got it from Tesco.
