What do you normally do? Just having one of those days - what do you normally do to make yourself feel better and hopeful on such days?

Get out in the fresh air and daylight. Just a ten minute walk would do it.

recyclemeagain · 23/01/2025 09:57

Sorry to hear you're having a tough day. I put on music to regulate my mood and sing along to regulate my breathing. It takes my mind off stuff or gives me the space to process my thoughts depending what kind of music I put on. Sometimes loud rock stuff, sometimes deeply emotional sad songs, maybe musicals, sometimes bubblegum 80s pop etc but I find something I can sing along to and go for it. Either in the car or in my house. I hope your day picks up for you and that your weekend is lighter.

This. Every time.

PeanutPies · 23/01/2025 09:59

@LunaNorth currently at work- which doesn’t help. Will try to nip out during lunch.

@recyclemeagain Thanks - I’m listening to music now

earphones in and blast a favourite/upbeat song

tammy98 · 23/01/2025 10:17

I have this feeling every single day. Be grateful for your life. And thankful for the people in it. Be thankful that you have a job.

recyclemeagain · 23/01/2025 10:21

I have heard that sad songs are more cathartic than upbeat if that's any help! Releases more endorphins apparently. Wink

LadyoftheCheeses · 23/01/2025 10:22

As you are at work, I'd suggest popping out on lunch for a walk if you can, in the meantime, make a nice coffee and spend 5 minutes enjoying that and thinking of the things you enjoy in life, the people around you, things you have to look forward too and so on. It's cliche, but it's just a bad day, not a bad life Brew

I'm assuming here that you work in an environment that will allow the above - apologies if not!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 23/01/2025 10:23

I used to go to my mum’s and she would make me dippy eggs and toast soldiers with a cup of tea. The four hour journey down the M5 to Cornwall seems a bit excessive now though so I have to make it myself! Grin

crumpet · 23/01/2025 10:23

There are only a limited number of hours in a day - it may seem long but it will end

PeanutPies · 23/01/2025 10:30

@crumpet Thanks- I need to remind myself of this.

Have a chat with someone who likes me.

BigDahliaFan · 23/01/2025 10:33

having a chat with someone can really help. Or offering to nip out and buy someone/everyone a coffee/toast.

Starlight1984 · 23/01/2025 10:34

Do you have a dog? If so, give them a cuddle / play with them / take them out for a walk.

If not, might I suggest getting one 😃

Ohlawdnotagain · 23/01/2025 10:35

A hot cuppa and a biscuit or chocolate.
Hug my DC.

Oh sorry didn't see this. My dog tip won't be helpful then.

Agree with someone else who said, go and have a chat about TV programmes (or something equally light-hearted) with a colleague for a few minutes. Offer to make everyone a brew. See if anyone fancies walking to the local butty shop at lunchtime.

jotex · 23/01/2025 11:14

I take myself out for a nice lunch. A chicken caesar salad, skinny fries, and a Coke Zero can solve 99% of my problems 😅

On a more serious note - time alone, music and I tell myself that everything is going to be okay.

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 23/01/2025 12:17

I usually take myself to bed as at least that way I can't inflict my mood on others and they can't sour my mood even more.

As your at work, if you have a car I suggest taking your lunch break in it and finding silly videos on your phone to watch, something you like or something thats interests you. I find the quiet helps me reset.

Hopefully the mood will pass soon for you.

Careeradviceplease1234 · 23/01/2025 12:21

Hi Op,

Get up from your desk and get some fresh air if you can and smashing the tunes is a good idea too.

For me at work there's usually little I can do but get through it on a bad day. Usually once I finish my shift I get home as quick as possible and if I can I will change my bed and have a shower. Something about a shower and fresh bed makes me feel renewed. If circumstance allowed I'll cosy up with a book or watch a comfort show.

I know this isn't feasible for everyone.
I'm sorry your having a rough day OP. Remember a bad day is just that. It'll pass. Look after yourself until it does.

StarlightLady · 23/01/2025 12:52

It works with batteries 🫢.

myopinionis · 23/01/2025 13:22

For me, first resorts are music or exercise.

Next step is to try and think what has caused the dip in mood, and try to assess objectively how reasonable it is. It may not fix the problem, but just helps to detach a bit and understand - whether shit has simply happened and I was in front of it, or if (sometimes) it's more minor and my own over-reaction.

frozendaisy · 23/01/2025 14:49

10 rounds of deep box breathing

A fancy tea, the fancy bit is clearly personal.

If you carry a book, or come get out, read something away from screens, work, the people making life hard.

Look back at photos from a happy sunny day.

Allthebrokenplaces · 23/01/2025 14:53

I read something recently that suggested having some nice activities on your "to-do" list as well as less nice ones (if you are the type to have a to-do list).
Then if you are feeling crap, you can reach for it and do something quick you enjoy.
If I am feeling crap, I can't always think of something to cheer me up so this really helps. At the moment my list IS a bit crap, so I am going to do the old faithful of quick walk around the park.

Violetti · 23/01/2025 15:06

Just get through the day, go to bed, wake up and have a better day then next day.
