Please recommend me best ear plugs to block out snoring! (Not Loop quiet)

Anyone found a decent brand of ear plugs to block out snoring?

I first got the Loop quiet and initially they worked well but they don’t block out much of the noise now… I’m wondering if they’ve lost their shape and I need to buy a new pair or just try another brand?

Separate bedrooms not an option sadly but any ear plug recommendations would be appreciated!

Ideally, you need to get to the root of the problem, so the snorer needs to lose weight if overweight and get nose fixed if there is a deviated septum.

However, that doesn't help in the short term. My ex snored like a 747 taking off and I used these. They block sound up to 35 decibels and are extremely comfortable. I used to pick mine up in France on hols as they are much cheaper there, but you can get them in the UK too. I have seen them in independent chemists.

Thank you! I’ll check that brand out. I think he does have a deviated septum, but need to think whether to get the operation.

After asking on here, I bought mack's dreamgirl earplugs

They are smaller for smaller earholes, basically. I can wedge them in pretty well and they do well. I cant hear speaking ! Snoring , depends. They are better than others I've tried. ( lots 🙄)

When I asked for advice it was also pointed out that you can block so much noise, background noise etc, but it is harder to vloack snoring because its rhythmic, and because you are expecting and waiting on the next one.
I'm not good at relaxing my mind enough to get past this but perhaps you can!

I've got a list of others to try, on a budget. Apparently snoozeband are good too if you are more flush!

By the way my husband had the operation ( he has had multiple broken noses in the past) but it made no difference 😭

Snoozeband headphones are what you need. Play brown noise/noise of tumble dryer/audio book to drown the bugger out

I don't rate Loop quite at all. I found while they dulled the noise I became more aware of the vibration of the snore

I use the Quies wax ones. You soften them in your hand and they block pretty much everything out.

I’ve heard that sometimes the operation doesn’t work! It would be more tempting if it was a guarantee. Thanks for the recommendation @StandardLampski

i also have small ear holes so they might be a better option than the ones I’m currently using

Yes exactly - it’s the vibration as well that is disturbing my sleep

The op didn’t work for my husband

loops apparently need replaced every 3 months or so.

I didn’t find they worked all that well at first but I seem to have go the technique of putting them in a certain way that seems to dull the noise out even more. I got the quiet 2 recently, they seem more comfortable and block out slightly more noise. The new sleep ones don’t have the best reviews though.

Also, a simple thing, but it does help. Sleep upsidedown if you can't be in a different room. The combination of being away from the snorer's head and decent ear plugs will improve things. And do get your partner to sleep on their side, one pillow only and with their chin lifted slightly.

I don't have snoring to block out, but use Boots Muffles wax earplugs as I live in a noisy area. They're quite large so I just cut them in half.

I've tried every disposable earplug, at one point, I was buying trial packs of everything and scoring them. I tried loop I tried some fit and flare other ones years ago just I've tried lots okay

The only ones I recommend are ear soft fx 32db noise reducing earplugs

I buy them as 200 packs from trades shops but they are on Amazon in bundles or boxes

Also agree with pp sometimes I just sleep upside down, DH has all the pillows to support him and I do try and keep him on his side not his back, but frankly, this is a marriage wrecking problem and I feel for all of us to experience it. I'm really at my wits end because yes, I can do all the sound, but the trembling and shaking and guttering, talking of people who refuse to get bloody help or he can't be helped really seriously impacts the mental health of their partner

The stems need trimming to be comfortable but they work wonders

I would strongly suggest he gets tested for obstructive sleep apnoea or a physical issue with the sinuses causing it though. Sleep apnoea can deadly! DH snored for years, I'd record him, elbow to wake him when he had very long pauses and didn't breath etc.

I was eventually able to book an appointment for him. The equipment was sent to the house, so he didn't need to sleep at a sleep clinic overnight. He now has a CPAP machine and to my surprise its absolutely silent! I can hear a very low, breathing from him and nothing more! I am now weaning myself off from using the earplugs- which I've done for 10+yrs.

Please push for him to get checked OP!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I hadn’t thought about the sleeping upside one - that could be a good alternative to sleeping on the sofa/enduring the snoring.

He’s been tested and apparently it’s not sleep apnea.

@whatsinanameeh totally agree - snoring can have such a strain on relationships. I sometimes find myself getting resentful. I know it’s not intentional but I think the snorer should take steps to try to improve it on their end too.

I've tried so many, including Quies, and the best I've found are the Alpine Sleep Deep. They are much easier to get into position and do seem to block out DH's snoring most of the time.

I have the loop dream which are the ones designed for sleeping - is there a reason you went for the quiet instead? You are meant to replace the tips regularly.

With the vibrations do you have a sprung mattress? Switching to a foam one can stop you feeling it as much.

@Milodon dream ones are new, quiet used to have the highest db rating from their offering.

They are pretty crap.

I’ve never found anything works better than good old fashioned foam earplugs. My ears are quite small and sensitive, though, so quite a lot of brands make them hurt. Also, I think earplugs are very individual things and what works for me probably won’t for you. I second the suggestion upthread to try out a selection pack and see what works for you. I bought this pack and found two types that suit me very well, and I then invested in a big bag of each:

I also have a snoozeband thing, and I put that on over the earplugs to have music or books to listen to as I drift off. I have this cheap one from Amazon and I’m very impressed, and over a year on it’s still going strong:

The dream are the best I’ve used - and I’ve used plenty of earplugs over the years to sleep in shifts whilst working at music festivals (why oh why do they never put staff camping somewhere quiet!). No earplugs will last forever because of needing to be squeezed into shape to form the seal, if they’re not working any more then the tips need to be replaced.

Foam ones are useless because they always work their way out of your ears, if you can even get a good seal to start with.

Wax ones are pretty good and were previously my preference but they stick to your hair and don’t block out as much noise as loop dream IME. I don’t think they’re great for your ears either as small bits of wax can come off.

I agree, Alpine earplugs are all good.

I'm actually considering custom made silicone ones...
