I haven’t finished it yet, Im halfway through episode two. Anyone else watching? It seems a bit predictable so far.

I really enjoyed it. It was so tense!!
Of course the plot was batshit, full of holes and would never happen like that in real life... but I took it for what it was. I love a crazy thriller series.
I thought the acting in this was great and really paved over the plotholes.
The scenery was beautiful too.
A well made thriller.

My DH did say at the end that he was suprised we didn't see Miles staggering out of the sea, escaped death to wreak revenge.
It was pretty ridiculous. But the actor was so good.. I was terrified of him.

LoafofSellotape · 09/01/2025 00:30

I watched it,God it was shite 😂 I must've got up and made a cuppa because I missed what happened to Miles' family and brother? I didn't care enough to rewind 😉

I binged this series last night, I enjoyed it. The actress who played Maddie was fab and those little boys are so cute.

One thing that struck me about Miles' character was how good he was at manipulating and gaslighting. I thought the show displayed this quite well, some people will genuinely twist each and everything to suit them. Even subtle things like Pete messaging first to go round to Miles and Lucy's. But that only happened because Miles asked then to. Like he played the long game the whole time.

Anyway I enjoyed it.

MeltingSky · 09/01/2025 07:27

Yes, did Miles actually have anything to do with his brothers death? Or is that just a sub plot that never went anywhere.

TulipTiptoer · 09/01/2025 07:45

Yes Miles was terrifying BUT I could almost see through him from day one. I was shouting at the telly, don't accept the bike from him, don't go round to his house, don't go surfing with him, don't get friendly with him.

MeltingSky · 09/01/2025 07:55

He was crawling with red flags which as a viewer is obvious, but then I thought if I was Pete, I'd be blindsided by Miles' generosity too.

Maddie got the measure of him fairly quickly.

Pile of guff

I think the plot doesn't examine what's the best outcome for the children. How would they feel when they grow up and find that their biological parents chose to not have them back? Shouldn't the right solution be that the kids go back to birth parents given they are so young and likely to not feel as much anxiety about separating from the parents they lived with. The outcome was mainly for the parents rather than the kids - was my opinion.

My dh found Miles too creepy and couldn’t watch past the first episode.
I loved it so binge watched the whole lot but Miles did make my skin crawl.
I usually am quite good at guessing the perp but this one was a shock, along with the reason too.

I enjoyed it. I see the Guardian gave it a terrible review, glad I didn’t take much notice of that
Id recommend it

Agreed

I also wonder what would actually happen in this situation. There was a case in America I think but no idea how that was resolved.

Definitely had to suspend normal beliefs, my biggest “what” moment was why, when it was shown that Miles had fed Theo the gummies, was he not arrested for poisoning a child, it was announced in a court hearing.

That was my thoughts exactly! It was like the judge just sort of shrugged her shoulders and carried on with the case with nothing further said.

Also couldn't understand the point of Mikes's mother appearing. I thought she was going to offer some groundbreaking story into Miles' background but nothing apart from a few vague insinuations. Just very disjointed.

DH and I watched this. He is awful for picking holes in things (solicitor 🙄!) but I enjoyed it. It is a case of suspending belief I think before you can get into it.
The little boys were both gorgeous! I loved Maddy’s hair too, really suited her.
Any recommendations of what to watch next? We aren’t big tv watchers but now littlest DD is sleeping better we have decided to hopefully get into some dramas. Well, I have!

Have you watched Happy Valley? James Norton plays a brilliant part in that drama.

spiderlight · 14/01/2025 22:21

At the risk of sounding like Hyacinth Bouquet, it was very ITV. Just got sillier and more unbelievable with every episode. I'd been looking forward to it but it could have been so much better and more sensitively done. What was the point of Miles' mother? She added nothing except to mildly unsettle him in court. Why were they no longer in contact? Had he caused the fire? Been traumatized by losing his brother and gone off the rails? We'll never know. Why were there cannabis gummies in a sweet jar in a toddler's reach? Why did the father let Miles into his house? Just huge silly plot holes.

It was very watchable but the book was better

TickingAlongNicely · 25/01/2025 08:21

I enjoyed it but so many questions..

They seemed to imply that David should be with his mother as they were clingy to each other, but Theo was more confident so would be fine either way. That seemed very one sided... so Theo it could come down to genetics but not David.

Also what are the chances of two children being born prematurely at the same gestation the same time in the same hospital?
