Good Morning All! What's everyone doing today?

I'm just finishing my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, watching the (light) snow through the window. The kittens have been fed & have vanished off to sleep somewhere & no one else is up yet.

I'm off up to get dressed in a minute (or thirty 🤣). Dd1 wants me to dye her hair for her so I'll be getting her up on my way! And dd2 wants a hand with her History homework, so we'll do that at some point.

I've got a couple of things I want to finish off for work tomorrow after dying dd's hair, and then plan on a nothingy afternoon of either crafting or reading, maybe some crochet.

Tea will be something quick and easy tonight since we had a roast on Wednesday, followed by early showers all round. I'll have my usual Self-Care Sunday scrubby everything shower then settle down in front of Food Network for an hour or two before an early night ready for work snow day please!

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning @lucysmam.

Think I'd like to hibernate today. DH kept me up most of the night with his snoring yet again, so I've been downstairs on the sofa for hours but couldn't get back to sleep. At least I have these 2 little faces for company. They're starting to settle but incredibly timid and don't really know how to be cats, let alone big cats!

Would like to do some baking today, fancy mini egg cookies and some chocolate chunk shortbread. Not sure what's for tea so may have to venture out if I want more than a jacket potato!

Last day of the holidays tomorrow so I suppose I'd better crack on with the ironing pile so DD has uniform for Tuesday!

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone - Happy New Year to all. DH & I managed a lie in until nearly 9 which is unheard of. Since DD16 split with her GF, we don’t tend to get loud early morning phone calls anymore! DH has just gone for a shower then I’ll have one & wash my hair. Later we’re going to an out of town shopping centre to exchange Christmas presents at M & S. DD wants to look in TK Maxx & I need to pop into Boots. The kitchen needs sorting at some point & there’s enough clothes for a load of washing. It’s raining here so they’ll go in the tumbledryer. Nice easy tea of battered cod, oven chips & petitpois. I might have my leftover Pizza Express pasta for lunch. If there’s time, DD & I will put some more stuff on Vinted. Looking forward to the new series of Call The Midwife tonight.

MissMarplesNiece · 05/01/2025 09:54

I'm going to attempt to make butter out of a large tub of very reduced price double cream. I've got a pile of ironing to do as well. Then I'm going to relax with one of the new books I got for Christmas while DH makes sausage casserole for lunch.

DilemmaDelilah · 05/01/2025 09:58

Ah there you are @lucysmam ! I've been waiting for you. 😁 I've been awake since 6.30, woken by a coughing fit. I should be going to the optician this morning but DH has pointed out that I probably won't be able to walk from the car park to the opticians so I have been trying to cancel it. Online cancellations aren't working, and they're not open until 10.30, so it will have to be a last minute cancellation. I have also had to cancel my massage tomorrow as I don't want to pass this on to my very lovely massage therapist and her family, but it's only been moved to next week.

So - nothing planned for today. Our evening meal will be the Bolognese we didn't have yesterday - we had jacket potatoes instead. Plain for me and with cheese and bacon for DH. I bought us an Aldi 'To Good To Go' bag to be picked up this afternoon, so I will report back on that. We have had one before and it was really good value. It included 3 punnets of strawberries (amongst lots of other things) which I made into the most delicious compote to have with vanilla ice cream and meringue at Christmas. Let's hope this one will be too.

In other news - it's my youngest grandson's third birthday today. I have got him a present I think he will love, and I'm just sad he lives 6 hours away so I can't see him open it. They have snow up there, although not that much, surprisingly. We are snow free, but with some roads closed due to flooding. Apart from a quick trip to Aldi I'm not going anywhere today.

daffodilandtulip · 05/01/2025 09:58

Morning all!

Last day of my glorious 16 days off work so a bit of planning to do today. Monitoring the weather atm as I'm meant to be returning DD to uni...

Oh, and packing, as she seems to have as much to take back now as when she left - combination of washing, Christmas presents, sale shopping, food stash and some kitchen stuff she decided she missed getting the first time.

Currently cooking hash browns and sausages for breakfast as the rest of the day will just be grabbing things (or just starving as we freeze to death in the car in the snow, either or 🙈).

lucysmam · 05/01/2025 09:59

Ooh @MissMarplesNiece we haven't had sausage casserole in forever! Will have to try and remember for one night in the week 😋

@Justonedayatatime11 they are utterly gorgeous. How did you end up with them? (Am I right in thinking they're related to the serval?).

Happy Sunday!!
I spent yesterday taking down tree/ decs and giving the whole downstairs a good clean and tidy.
Just sat on the sofa having a coffee and thinking about tackling upstairs today.....

gingercat02 · 05/01/2025 10:02

I'm still in bed, savouring the final lie in! Today is decorations removal day, and it always makes me a but sad.
It's just a normal Sunday otherwise, back to work and 6th form again!
Roast beef and a few glasses of wine, my mum will come if it doesn't get any snowier

dontforgetme · 05/01/2025 10:03

Good morning @lucysmam and all.

We aren't leaving the house today and I'm very much looking forward to it. Back to school and work tomorrow and the kids have requested a pajama day so they will be playing/crafting/on devices and I'll give the bathrooms a good clean and upstairs a good vac as have a feeling the coming week will be manic!

DD needs some help with her maths homework but that'll be a job for dp.. year 6 maths is way too hard for me 😂

Burgers for dinner tonight, a family favourite so no moaning from the kids at the dinner table which is always lovely!!

Can't believe it's back to normality tomorrow. It's been a funny old Christmas with noro taking down our house and this Christmas flu taking down various other family members homes. Very much looking forward to February when we are all getting together to make up for it. Also slightly looking forward to normality resuming (minus the school run and work) my stomach could do with a break from all the chocolate!

Have lovely Sundays all.

EsmeeMerlin · 05/01/2025 10:03

Work in a school and back tomorrow so I want to get the housework done today and get prepped for tomorrow. Slept awfully last night which is not filling me with hope that I will get a decent night's sleep tonight.

CoastalCalm · 05/01/2025 10:08

Lying in bed at the moment with a snoring dog - haven’t slept well at all so once nurse has been for my dressings (opened hysterectomy wound ) might snooze.

Heading back into hospital tomorrow as two months on still having a lot of discharge from wound and have two thick stitches visible which are meant to be permanent internal ones plus I can feel two big pools of ‘gunk’ in abdomen.

So today will be packing for that and tidying a little so I don’t come back to a load of housework as I suspect it’ll need another surgery to resolve - urgh

Justonedayatatime11 · 05/01/2025 10:08

Yes @lucysmam, in this case they have a serval grandparent, so they're both f2s.

Sadly they were living in a top floor flat and have never really been treated like cats... more like babies. People look at them and go wow, get one (or two) and expect them to be similar to a normal cat. They're not, they need so much more than that. So they've come to me where they'll have access to safe outside space and the ability to run and climb. And probably decimate any wildlife daft enough to enter the garden! The fluffy one does a lot of slapping so we need to redirect that behaviour!

FayKnights · 05/01/2025 10:10

Morning all!

Definitely an indoor day today, it snowed last night and the rain is now hammering.

I’ve been downstairs and stuck in a wash, but now reading back on my bed. I finally got a proper Kindle after years of using the Kindle app on my phone. I really like audiobooks and hadn’t realised I can also listen to books on it, but delighted to discover that I can!

Back into the office tomorrow, so will be getting organised by packing my bag, making a nice packed lunch (I begrudge spending a fiver on a sarnie in Pret!), and Ironing and mending a couple of things in my wardrobe that I haven’t worn for a while.

Will stick in a chicken for a roast later 🤤

Thanks for the kitty pics, they are gorgeous. We have a rescue Bengal. He is angelic looking but basically owns us. I’ll try and add a photo of the beautiful nightmare!

Have a great day all!

Good Morning All! What's everyone doing today?
pumpkinpillow · 05/01/2025 10:11

DSs football match cancelled so bonus tea in bed.
I'll be turning my garden office back to an office today having been used as a spare room over Xmas. Back to work tomorrow.
Long run.
Write some thank you cards and do some admin things.
DS staying with his GF (on the sofa) overnight.

Soccermumamir · 05/01/2025 10:19

Morning Lucysmam and everyone 🙋‍♀️

We're having a quiet day today before normality resumes tomorrow. I've just finished a 2nd cup of coffee and have no energy to get up off the sofa lol OH has just got up and both boys are still in bed as their football matches have been cancelled due to the snow.

No idea what my plans are today, just gonna go with the flow. I do need a workout later though 😩 Hope everyone has a lovely day 🙂

Aww they're gorgeous 🫶🫶

AddictedToBooks · 05/01/2025 10:21

It's snowy outside and I plan to curl up with my current book (reading "Ward D" by Frieda McFadden) and then make a nice family dinner later.
We usually go out to one of the local parks on a Sunday morning but because I rely on crutches, that's a no-no today, so I'm taking advantage of it.
Enjoy your day everyone x

Morethanthis71 · 05/01/2025 10:23

In my head I will be baking / doing cross stitch / reading one of the books I got for Christmas.
In reality I am writing Schemes of Work, planning lessons and marking books.
And I'm working really hard and quickly so that I'm all done in time for Call the Midwife at 8pm. I've never typed this fast, lol.

piscofrisco · 05/01/2025 10:25

Good morning everyone.
I was up early with dh who is going on a business trip today and had to be at Heathrow for 9. Our drive is sloped and we had some ( unusual for us in the south east), snow overnight-the car wouldn't go up the drive so I was out flattening cardboard boxes to make a little track for it in my pyjamas at 7 this morning. We managed it eventually, probably having woken all the neighbours up with the revving :(

Had a little tidy round the kitchen and Watched the puppy frolicking about in his first snow in the garden which was sweet.

Since then, as DD's are at their Dads, I've gone back to bed with the Dogs and had a little read of my book with a cup of tea on the go. Enjoying my quiet house for once as I'm Almost never here alone and it's very peaceful, (if a little odd).

If I can get my car off the drive without too much faff later I intent to go to Homesense for a potter and to buy some storage boxes, and M and S to get myself something nice for lunch. I will put a stew in the slow cooker for later as it seems the sort of day for it. Then more reading on the sofa/might watch a film as for once I don't have to argue with anyone else about what to watch.
I miss DH a lot when he is not here (and the DD's though they are being moody teens just now and it's nice to have a break from it sometimes), but it's an absolute treat to have the house to myself.

DisforDarkChocolate · 05/01/2025 10:27

Shovelling snow so my daughter can get the train home and taking down Christmas decorations.

Back to my normal work routine tomorrow.

Flapearedknave · 05/01/2025 10:29

Good morning all!

I didn't sleep well at all, saw 5am! So I'm trying to sleep, but neighbours are out in the snow, and it's quite sweet hearing the kids playing!

Will be essay planning/writing this afternoon. Taking down Christmas decorations and cleaning.

Back to work and school on Tues, so an extra day tomorrow to spend together! Really don't want this break to end!

Trinity69 · 05/01/2025 10:30

Morning. Just about to make my second drink of the day, hot chocolate. Seem to have gone off tea for some reason.
I have big plans, I want to dye my hair, will clean the bathroom while I’m in there, make a shepherds pie for tea, strip and remake the beds and have a nice relaxing bath which will involve plucking my overgrown eyebrows. Also have to pick my son up from his Dads this afternoon so not looking likely everything will get done!

ChristmasGrinch24 · 05/01/2025 10:35

Debating if I really need milk or not, there's a foot of snow outside & still going not supposed to stop till tomorrow!
Corner shop only round the corner, but I hate snow. 😂

Not much planned today, went to the cinema and out for food yesterday so probably hibernate. BlushSmile

RedRobyn2021 · 05/01/2025 10:40

That sounds lovely

I'm mostly just feeding my new baby, but I was hoping to get into town to pick up some bits I ordered to Sainsbury's and drop some stuff off at the charity shop.

Hoping to maybe watch a film with DD1 this afternoon as well, I thought she might like to watch Frozen
