Good Morning All! What's everyone doing today?

I'm just finishing my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, watching the (light) snow through the window. The kittens have been fed & have vanished off to sleep somewhere & no one else is up yet.

I'm off up to get dressed in a minute (or thirty 🤣). Dd1 wants me to dye her hair for her so I'll be getting her up on my way! And dd2 wants a hand with her History homework, so we'll do that at some point.

I've got a couple of things I want to finish off for work tomorrow after dying dd's hair, and then plan on a nothingy afternoon of either crafting or reading, maybe some crochet.

Tea will be something quick and easy tonight since we had a roast on Wednesday, followed by early showers all round. I'll have my usual Self-Care Sunday scrubby everything shower then settle down in front of Food Network for an hour or two before an early night ready for work snow day please!

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning @lucysmam and Happy New Year all.
We were up early this morning as dd was excited about the snow. She walked to the local shop with dh and then we made a snowman. I’m thawing out now and sat by the radiator mumsnetting. Today I need to finish the passport applications, and get some things ready for going back to work after the two week break. I’m also hoping to finish my book, Raising Hare, which is a lovely gentle read. Dh is doing toad in the hole tonight. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning @lucysmam and all and Happy New Year.

I've come back to bed this morning, and had a coffee and a very delicious cinnamon roll that my ds bought for us all. I've been reading on my kindle and stopping to talk to my dh periodically about the book (Chasing the Scream by Johann Hari about the war on drugs).

I have to go out imminently because my Amazon cat food order has been delayed and isn't coming until tomorrow. I didn't realise until last night that I was down to the last two pouches. The babies have had to have sliced beef and chicken with a topping of dreamies for breakfast (I always have dry food out too, but they like their Felix As Good As it Looks for breakfast).

I'm going to the gym to do a workout and have a steam afterwards and will then pop into Tesco. This afternoon I may do an hour of work on my assignment and might get a board game or a jigsaw out and put the fire on. DD is cooking chicken and ginger stew for dinner. I need a new boxset to start if anyone has any recommendations.

What seems like norovirus, came on quite suddenly last night after a milkshake.

Trouble is I keep forgetting to sip rather than gulp water, and...you can imagine the result. But I'm so thirsty!

ihatethewordhubby · 05/01/2025 10:54

Power cut here since midnight so still in bed with three duvets on me and a hot water bottle. Thank goodness we have a gas hob. When power resumes will watch Downton with my Mum.

VenusClapTrap · 05/01/2025 11:05

Good morning everyone. No snow here, just torrential rain and howling wind. As we’re doing cat photos, here is Lars, who is very much not intending to go outside in this, thanks very much.

Today we will clean out the guinea pigs, clean out the fish, and get school bags ready for tomorrow. Ds has requested chilli for tea, so dh is going to make that with him.

I'm doing a self care Sunday because I always intend to and never prioritise it. No wine for me today - started a bottle of red after someone reversed into my car at the supermarket and then had to stay on hold for ages to the insurance company. I've had my first cup of tea and planning to put a wash on, scrub my neglected kitchen floor and then listen to a classical playlist via my new noise cancelling headphones and do a jigsaw. Will light the log burner later and then have a bath and read a book before bed. I popped out to the charity shop yesterday and bought a jigsaw and some books ready for the snow day!

Lifealittleboulder · 05/01/2025 11:18

Hi everyone im new here :)

So everyone seems to be having a very cosy day - it’s freezing here!!

My youngest has been in hospital this week so he and I are at home while dH and ds are at church. This afternoon we’re lighting the fire, maybe a board game, getting ready for back to school tomorrow for my eldest, little is staying off for a few more days to recover.
ive smashed the laundry that needed folding and putting away, but there’s still so much needs doing.. :/

Soccermumamir · 05/01/2025 11:22

Oh will join the cat photos. This is Lilly and she has been a pain in the bum the last couple of days 😹

I have 2 dozen chocolate fairy cakes to make for a Gdd’s birthday party tomorrow, plus a load of sausages on sticks.

Then I have to wrap her present, and find what the hell I did with the card.
Plus I need to wrap a big item I’ve made for a charity, and get it ready via Click and Drop, for the postman tomorrow.

Plus some batch cooking, for tonight and the freezer.
And a walk, at some point.

So why I’m still sitting here in my dressing gown at 11.26 😱 I really don’t know!

(Half the sausages are already cooked, though).

Kim82 · 05/01/2025 11:33

Good morning everyone, it has snowed her and dd10, dd20 and her friend who stayed over last night are all our building a snowman and throwing snowballs at each other. Me and dh are sitting on the couch in our dressing gowns drinking tea in the warmth! I’ve got a really busy day today so should really get my backside in gear but I can’t be bothered moving.

I need to go and collect our new electric blanket then make a start on cleaning the house top to bottom as every room is messy.

I’ve got loads of washing that needs to be done and I’m also cooking a roast for tea. I want to do a little self care this evening - have an everything shower then get an early night with fresh sheets on the bed so I can start the week feeling fresh.

Witchywoo41 · 05/01/2025 11:34

Good morning everyone, it’s lashing down here so I’m staying in. I’ve got a big pot of lentil and veg soup cooking for lunches through the week and I’ve prepped the Sunday dinner ready just to switch on later. I’m going all out today with three courses, the decs came down yesterday and I did the big clean so today will be lovely food, wine and prepping for back to work and school tomorrow.
Hope everyone stays warm and cozy

Baneofmyexistence · 05/01/2025 11:41

Lazy morning here. Washing, getting school bags ready for tomorrow and doing Christmas present Lego and jigsaws. Lunch soon then maybe a walk for a coffee if the weather holds out. Snow is melting now but due to rain heavily soon! Need to pop to Morrisons too and do some ironing. Fairly chilled really.

PositiveLife · 05/01/2025 11:41

Did some work this morning.
My food delivery for this evening has been cancelled so I'm hoping the snow clears a bit and I can get to the supermarket.
Took Xmas tree down yesterday so should do some cleaning and sort the living room out.
But mostly having a lazy day!

NoCarbsForMe · 05/01/2025 11:48

Trying to finish my book for book club! 📚📚📚

Thislittlekitten · 05/01/2025 11:56

Morning all

Lazy morning here too when I’ve so much to do today.

About to pick up DS from a friends. Should nip to shops for a few bits.

No snow here just now but it’s predicted.

Still have clothes and uniform to iron for tomorrow. Get the kids to sort their bags out. I’m actually looking forward to going back to work but worried we will be nightmare in the morning getting up.

Will get all the bits done and just chill out too.

Pork for tea we didn’t have last night and me and the kids will make a pudding.

zingally · 05/01/2025 11:57

Had my final lie-in of the holiday, getting up just before 10.

I've got the dishwasher going and am shortly going to get all the towels and bathmats together for a wash. The kitchen sides need a tidy and wipe-down as well.

Nothing else planned for today! I did a bit of work prep yesterday, ready to go on Monday. Will probably start my new book, and maybe watch a bit more of Squid Game 2.

Eggsley · 05/01/2025 12:01

Hello @lucysmam and all, and happy new year!

Football was cancelled this morning so I've had a lovely long lie in, just had some breakfast and a cup of tea. I'm getting over a horrible cold so I think the extra sleep was much needed.

We had a sprinkling of snow last night but not enough for a snowman, and now it's just raining heavily.

I've got to take the Christmas decorations down today, hoover and dust downstairs and give the bathrooms a clean. The kitchen floor also needs a good scrub. I'm on operation de-clutter this year, so there are a couple of rooms I really need to be ruthless with, but I want to get our main living areas looking presentable first.

I'm doing a roast for dinner and could also do with popping out to see my parents at some point, I haven't seen them for a couple of weeks due to my cold.

This evening I want to paint my nails and have an early night as it will be a busy week at work next week. DS1 is back to school tomorrow and DS2 on Tuesday so we will be back to normal soon after the Christmas excitement.

Hope everyone has a great day, loving the puss-cat photos!

OneLilacEagle · 05/01/2025 12:14

Morning / afternoon all. Have had a lovely, lazy morning. Ds made me a boiled egg for my breakfast as an apology for being a grumpy bum first thing, then went fishing with DH. Well, I say fishing - they're having hot chocs in a cafe - but the rods are in the van so it counts, apparently! I've had a bath and read some of my magazine. Does anyone else read Simple Things here? I'd recommend - very much suits the vibe of these threads. Might go for a walk later or just chill in the house with my knitting and the kittens. Butter paneer for dinner from the new Meera Sodha book.

Crunchymum · 05/01/2025 13:15

Happy Sunday all.

Must be something in the air as my cats (2yo and 4yo) have been loons today. Although they've worn themselves out now so I expect they'll have an 8 hour nap - oh to be a cat!!

Today is a day of homework, chores and lazing about. Only the adults are showered and dressed.

Shopping came earlier so I've just finishing the meatballs and tomato sauce for dinner. I'll do some salad and garlic bread too. I'll probably make a beef stew for the freezer today as well.

Christmas tree number 2 needs to come down, recycling will collect it tomorrow. So then we can have a proper clean.

I ironed all the uniforms last week but have another pile of ironing to tackle today.

Kids will all have showers later and I'll do the girls hair (long and curly so we only wash it twice a week in winter!)

DC1 back tomorrow and the girls back Tuesday so they'll have a day with granny as DP and I are working, although weve worked all over the festive period - the only days we've both had off are 25th, 26th and 1st Jan!

Musicalmistress · 05/01/2025 13:36

Finishing boxing up the contents of the kitchen cupboards ready for our new kitchen being fitted next week... so ready for all the building work to be finished!

Zippedydodah · 05/01/2025 13:55

Good afternoon everyone! The snow’s melted here so everything is soggy and the dog refused to go far this morning because it rained 🙄She’s asleep in front of the wood burner.
I cooked roast gammon and all the bits for dinner so I am full and sleepy but I never sleep during the day unless I’m ill so I will get my embroidery out in a bit.
I did the ironing this morning and put everything away, tomorrow I will clean the house through, it probably needs it now Christmas and New Year are over (we had a very quiet time but somehow housework has slipped….).
It’s considerably warmer here than yesterday when temperatures barely scraped above freezing, so changeable.
I hope you all have a good week 🌻

DilemmaDelilah · 05/01/2025 16:01

Well..... here is the promised update on my Too Good to Go bag from Aldi. Bear in mind it takes over 15 minutes to drive to Aldi... we got there to find that the store had cancelled today's Too Good to Go bags. They sent an email 5 minutes before pick up time, when we were already 2/3 of the way there, to let me know. I am 'somewhat' annoyed.
