I am feeling very depressed by the weaponising of traumatic events in women’s and children’s lives, I feel some of the details being made public are probably further traumatising the victims.

I am seriously considering unfriending someone on Facebook who I have known for over 20 years, she is a well educated woman and is posting the Musk stuff, but this morning has shared something claiming that Suella Braverman is telling the truth when others won’t. Seeing Jenrick’s latest contribution I feel disgusted with anyone who attributes “telling the truth” as their motivation.

Saucery · 05/01/2025 12:30

People share the most surprising bollocks on FB etc @Evenstar . I just Unfriend that sort of nonsense, even if I’m in rl contact with them. Only been asked directly about it once (work colleague) - Her : “Have you come off FB?” Me : “ No, I unfriended you because you kept sharing that crap about xxxxx” Her : “ “ Grin Not a close or long-standing friend though and I enjoyed the look on her face in a crowded staffroom Grin
Unfriended school mums for Disablist shite too.
The only time I felt sad about it was an old Uni friend who went full on Conspiracy Theorist. Tried to reason with her, not least because it was more like a mental health problem than mindlessly sharing bollocks, but in the end had to admit defeat Sad

PandoraSox · 05/01/2025 13:00

I have a friend who I knew was a massive Tory, but has now started retweeting Yaxley-Lennon. I find it so hard to reconcile that fact with the person they are in real life. I know if they opened their door and found a starving immigrant in their front garden, they would take them in and feed them.

littledrummergirls · 05/01/2025 13:19

This is my conspiracy theorist relative. Fortunately they only seem to post in their echo chambers and then talk to me about stuff. Their actions are normal, humane and totally at odds with the bollocks they seem to be reading, they can't quite make the logic work. Fortunately, as we agree to disagree, we have some debates, but both try to steer away from contentious subjects, but I am able to counter some of it.

It started with chemicals, then the Clinton's eat babies, then Yaxley, Trump and now Musk. It's disturbing how easily people are getting drawn in.

Haven't there been studies done on group think etc that shows this. It's like an online Cult.

bombastix · 05/01/2025 13:24

It’s kinder to the spirit to imagine that people who post this hateful stuff would be good or moral if pushed. But I don’t agree. Posting this stuff is a precursor to actual hate, which affects all of us and the society we live in. It’s a sign that the person is giving up on those constraints the rest of us have. By all means discuss, but it’s not neutral, it does do damage.

MNHQ have responded to my report about Musk threads 1 and 2 which they have declined to delete because there is 'lots of genuine discussion' - they don't even follow their own rules so cba to do anything more.

That makes zero sense.

Exactly - it's illogical nonsense

That so called defence could be made about many previously deleted threads, the point here is they were started and maintained by a previously banned poster.
Which if MNHQ were actually doing their job would never have gotten past the 1st thread.

bombastix · 05/01/2025 13:37

I don’t know about it making no sense. There is another thread talking about Farage on the BBC.

Things are changing in the UK. The latest poll figures have three political parties closely together in terms of voting intention not two

Well this is fun, I’m getting all kinds of stick for someone else’s posts now.

Cheguevarahamster · 05/01/2025 13:46

Jenrick's tweet is appalling. There was an ex Tory advisor on Kuenssberg this morning saying how dangerous he was and how he was putting lives at risk.

MsJinks · 05/01/2025 14:16

Musk has just tweeted that Reform need a new leader - Farage not up to the job!
Musk does seem to support Yaxley-Lennon and Farage cut association with him (publicly at least), to make Reform more palatable I think - not that I think anything can myself. Anyway, that £80 mill doesn’t seem destined for Reform as it stands. And maybe Farage/Trump 'great friendship' will fall apart - though I am awaiting a fall out between Musk and Trump - so who knows!

bombastix · 05/01/2025 14:20

Hahaha

PandoraSox · 05/01/2025 14:23

It's like the Musk MAGA fall out

PandoraSox · 05/01/2025 14:24

I think Musk prefers Tice as he has been retweeting him.

littledrummergirls · 05/01/2025 14:24

He's forgetting that Farage owns the party, unless it's been changed?

BIossomtoes · 05/01/2025 14:25

But Tice has had his turn. It must be 30p’s next.

MsJinks · 05/01/2025 14:26

Though I despise myself for reading/viewing these type of accounts 🙈 seems Musk likes Rupert Lowe - retweets and comments on his posts.

If Badenoch had a backbone she'd remove the Whip from him.

Well done taking one for the team - so we don't have to read it all [heart]

She can’t afford to, she’s a bit short of MPs.

He’s forgetting Farage owns the voters and they go where he does.

NGL that did make me lol when it popped up as a news alert on my phone.
