Or what exactly he means…

SerendipityJane · 09/01/2025 10:45

Since we are doomed to be reliving ancient history, it's worth noting what happened to the star players.

Seems we are in a weird triumvirate phase at the moment. Is Musk Crassus ?

DuncinToffee · 09/01/2025 10:51

Off to google Crassus

Well he is crass, to be sure.

It's a bit of a click-baity headline with little of substance in the article - just says he's 'taking advice from his allies' - not exactly surprising?

It’s totally unacceptable that he’s talking about it at all! Doesn’t matter who his allies are.
Some of those who lap up his every word will have their own interpretation of ‘remove’ too, and he knows it. Very, very dangerous.

That is true. Musk is now the hero of Yaxley-Lennon's supporters.

One thing that Brexit showed - maybe it was the entire reason behind Brexit - was that people are quite happy to stand next to - and vote with - utter scumbags if they feelz it is in their interests.

Really, the whole remain/leave debate should have been distilled into "do you think that voting for what a far-right agitator likes is going to end well".

Voting can simultaneously be a right and a privilege - in fact all rights are privileges. Just ask any Afghan woman. And as such it is (or should be) incumbent on the voter to look to their sides when they vote.

If I ever find myself voting for something Nigel Farage or Stephen Yaxley Lennon advocates for then I really really really really really really really need to work though what has gone wrong in the world, my life, and the UK to make that happen.

The only positive (if it can be called that) aspect of the social media fetish gripping (some of) the world is that it does make it very easy to show what deeply unpleasant characters these cunts are.

That Liz Truss cease and desist letter in full. She has gone completely loco. Such a brave free speech warrior 🥬🥬🥬

I'll happily appear as a witness to state that Truss has no reputation to be harmed.

I vaguely recall someone losing a libel case when it emerged they were acquainted with Aleister Crowley on the basis that if that was the case they "had no reputation to lose".

It's only defamatory if it's not true. Just saying

Yeah but no but it wasn't her wot did it, it was the bank of England's fault and, anyway it didn't happen cos this is what really happened and that's what you said happened and it's not like anyone big went bust like so just shut up, right.

littledrummergirls · 09/01/2025 14:00

Strarmer needs to give her the Arkell v Pressdram response.

Cheguevarahamster · 09/01/2025 14:36

Strarmer needs to give her the Arkell v Pressdram response.

Or - ideally - no response at all.

I'm no lawyer, but I have a vague recollection from a rather litigious CEO a while back that just because a lawyer writes a letter doesn't mean you are obliged in anyway to reply. Especially in meritless cases.

Or, TL;DR: treat it with the contempt which it deserves. Something I think we are going to need to see a lot more if in a post-Musk world.

Sun-Tzu works in cyberspace too, I believe.

cakeorwine · 09/01/2025 15:03

He can say it in Parliament.

And people can say it elsewhere. I think it's an example of the Streisand effect.

And people can say it elsewhere. I think it's an example of the Streisand effect.

And I can say it here:

Liz Truss was an incompetent Prime Minister whose total lack of economic understanding lead to one of the sharpest periods of damage the British economy has ever seen.

now in italics

And French

Love the translation into French 🤣

For those who like "a laff" here's Our Mate Phil highlighting how Musk may actually be completely correct about Reform UK as one of their MPs fails to read out a list of names on a piece of paper he is holding.

Understandably the speaker loses patience.
