OMG I did it! I finally finished the walking dead!

Ok I know I am a million years behind. I know most people started in 2011 but I was still watching Lost. I started properly in 2016 when my DS was born and I was on Maternity leave. Then I got side tracked and had a break and never went back. So this year in 2024 at the start of the year I thought right i am
going to rewatch it from the beginning!
I just finished the last 2 episodes this morning. Got emotional when Rosita died - I am assuming she got bit?
but I feel like from watching the whole thing it was it was about 4-5 seasons too long. I the beginning, I really enjoyed finding about about the characters- their back stories and the relationships between them. But once Negan’s group came in, then Alpha and the whisperers, then the commonwealth -it just became about groups taking over and overpowering other groups, killing each other and zombies.
most shocking moments for me - Andrea’s sister getting shot in the head - didn’t see it coming. Also people getting their throats at that trough in the sanctuary. It’s not really explained why? Glen getting beaten to death with that bat.
I do have some questions:
where does Rick go on that helicopter?
why did Shane turn into a zombie without getting bit?

There is a Rick and michonne spin off that explains what happened to Rick after the helicopter, I think it was called the ones who live.
Shane died because everyone carries the virus inside them. So however you die you will turn. Being bit introduces an infection that kills quickly, it's not the reason for turning.

Well done on getting through it, the last couple of seasons were quite hard work.

Pottingup · 31/12/2024 08:18

Yes, now you have to watch the spin offs. I enjoyed them all. Did feel a bit lost when finally finished The Walking Dead.

Jennyathemall · 31/12/2024 08:39

Sorry but after it really slowed down in season whatever I started to feel like the walking dead. Didn’t go back. Carl died right? So that’s good.

I was a MASSIVE fan of TWD, ( so much so we visited Senoia aka Woodbury, when we were on a road trip in the Deep South)
Like you OP I started to lose momentum when Negan appeared, and I never got over the death of Glenn and Abraham. I was so invested with everyone!

Thaiyogamassage · 31/12/2024 08:57

I barely remember most of it now but really loved it at the time. Still can't get over Simon from Teachers running around with a gun and a southern accent. He played the role amazingly well.

Mumistiredzzzz · 31/12/2024 09:01

Everyone turns when they die, even if not bitten, how do you not know that?!

RosieLeaLovesTea · 31/12/2024 09:07

@Jennyathemall yes Carl died.

Well done OP. I gave up in season I can't remember what.....not long after Negan came in. I feel like I should have seen it through at that point but it absolutely DRAGGED on.

user1471538283 · 31/12/2024 09:27

I loved it and used to be so excited to see it but I found it hard going after Carl died. I need to revisit it though so I can see it all like you!

I'm watching the Handmaid's Tale at the moment so that's cheery and also scarily accurate for the times we live in.

MrsMurphyIWish · 31/12/2024 11:10

Well done! I used to religiously watch it but gave up on the season where Shane West’s character was killed - I was 😮 My fave moment was where Negan locked up Daryl and played “Easy Street” over and over. I downloaded that song after the episode 😂

MrsMurphyIWish · 31/12/2024 11:11

I really enjoyed “Fear the Walking Dead”.

Dixiedot90 · 31/12/2024 11:12

Everyone turns (without being bitten) when they die OP?

Amazingday · 31/12/2024 11:19

I am watching it for the first time. DP watched it when it first came out, but not the spin offs. I have to watch all the originals series first. We are at season 9. I love it. I really want to know what happens to Rick, but told I need to watch everything in order. Think 2025 is sorted!!

RosieLeaLovesTea · 31/12/2024 17:12

Also the other thing that annoyed me is Maggie was in the early stages of pregnancy, then she disappeared, and then she returned having given birth to Hershel?

If you've binge watched some of it you worn have had the natural series breaks and it's harder to followed time time line and breaks. The series do move on quite considerable timespans sometimes.

You don't find out in twd you have to watch a spin off. I found it 'upsetting' not to find out in twd, I needed closure lol

MaggieBsBoat · 31/12/2024 18:04

i finished it this year.
Well done OP.
I sm going to start the spin offs asap.
Rosita - it was so sad.

lemonyellows · 31/12/2024 18:19

Yes we just finished the spin offs. After starting to watch in 2010 Halloween night. Loved it.

Look at the flowers!!

JaimeLannister · 31/12/2024 18:45

I'm watching it now. I loved it when it first came out but stopped after Carl died. I'm determined to finish it this time.

I miss the Altanta group. So few of them survive!

SisterMaryLuke · 31/12/2024 18:52

I binge watched it at the beginning of this year for the first time and LOVED IT! Started again a couple of months ago. Have watched most of the spin offs and most of them weren't brilliant, apart from the Daryl ones in France.

TheSilentSister · 31/12/2024 19:03

I loved this series so much, it took over my mind. Everywhere I went I planned how I'd escape if a zombie appeared!

She gave birth to Herschel? The old guy from the first season? Whaaaaat…!?!?

To be fair once Carl died it must have felt like “mission accomplished”.

Changeitup81 · 02/01/2025 13:49

Ha ha.... DH and I started watching it in 2015, I think we watched maybe 3 or 4 seasons? Then I got pregnant and I started to have the most horrific vivid nightmares about zombies and I couldn't watch any more 🤣

Tempted to watch again, but for some reason since having children (or getting older!), I've become a real wuss for horror and scary stuff.
