Ok I know I am a million years behind. I know most people started in 2011 but I was still watching Lost. I started properly in 2016 when my DS was born and I was on Maternity leave. Then I got side tracked and had a break and never went back. So this year in 2024 at the start of the year I thought right i am
going to rewatch it from the beginning!
I just finished the last 2 episodes this morning. Got emotional when Rosita died - I am assuming she got bit?
but I feel like from watching the whole thing it was it was about 4-5 seasons too long. I the beginning, I really enjoyed finding about about the characters- their back stories and the relationships between them. But once Negan’s group came in, then Alpha and the whisperers, then the commonwealth -it just became about groups taking over and overpowering other groups, killing each other and zombies.
most shocking moments for me - Andrea’s sister getting shot in the head - didn’t see it coming. Also people getting their throats at that trough in the sanctuary. It’s not really explained why? Glen getting beaten to death with that bat.
I do have some questions:
where does Rick go on that helicopter?
why did Shane turn into a zombie without getting bit?

She gave birth to Herschel? The old guy from the first season? Whaaaaat…!?!?

She named her son after her Dad!

I found TWD got a bit shit towards the end, they introduced lots of new villains and then cut their storylines short as they were running out of time. Pope would have been a great character if introduced sooner, I think!

Don't worry OP, I only just started watching it over the Christmas holidays and I'm now in S6 I think!
Deaths that hit hard for me:

The horse that Rick rides into the city in the first episode which ends up swarmed by a herd of Walkers.
Herschel's decapitation by The Governor.
Patrick, the young lad with glasses from Woodbury who gets the fever in the prison and turns.
Tyreece gets bitten, has his arm removed by Rick then dies in the back of the car.
Beth - even though her singing annoyed me.
Glen when he loses his footing and is pulled into a herd of Walkers as he tries to stop Nicholas from shooting himself.

Favourite characters :

M'shone
Daryl
Anthea
Herschel - Beth & Maggie's father
Eugene

It's a great series but I'll probably start feeling it should have ended earlier than it did.

Congratulations OP for reaching the end!

I loved it until the commonwealth happened and then I was utterly bored. Really, it should have ended when Andrew Lincoln left.

I felt the same when I finally finished 'Breaking Bad'! You spend so long with these characters, they start to feel like real people in your life, and you're sad when they're gone!

Also people getting their throats at that trough in the sanctuary. It’s not really explained why?

The people living there were cannibals and ate human flesh so killing victims and draining the blood was part of the butchery process. (Remember Bob and his “tainted meat” leg?)

@SchruteShunned
In one of the earlier episodes Rick and Daryl were on a 'run', as they drove down the road a young male hitchhiker tried to flag the car down, but Rick kept on driving.
On the journey back they saw that a couple of Walkers had killed the hitchhiker, they stopped, killed the Walkers and took the orange backpack that had belonged to the hitchhiker.
In later episodes the orange backpack would make an appearance occasionally, and I would feel a pang of sadness. I know Rick was ensuring his people were safe, but I lost a little respect for him after that.

I did say I was very invested in the early series of TWD!

I LOVED it when it started but gave up when Maggie was pregnant without showing for about 2 years, and when they didn't kill Negan. Just inexplicable. I also loved Fear the Walking Dead but got bored by it and didn't understand why they killed off 2 of the main characters in consecutive episodes. Well, a pay dispute or the actors wanting to leave I assume was the reason.

Glen didn't die then but if you were traumatised by that, you don't want to know how he really died.....

I started TWD - the ones that live today! episode 1 done. I really needed to know what happened to Rick.

I don’t think I have the energy for all of the spin offs. But I will what the ones that live as I really liked Rick and Michonne.

@Tooty78 I remember that scene vividly. The male backpacker was shouting and begging for them to stop and Rick just carried on! When they returned and collected his orange backpack I shouted at the screen. I think by this point Lori had died giving birth and I'd already lost respect for Rick after the way he'd treated her leading up to Judith's arrival.

@WellsAndThistles I haven't watched in a few days and that was the last episode I saw - I hoped he'd managed to escape the herd, but I'm not looking forward to what's coming 🫣

RosieLeaLovesTea · 11/01/2025 07:50

Now getting into the ones who live! OMG did Rick not know that Michonne was pregnant with his baby when the bridge blew up!!!!! Just discovered that.

I love zombie stuff and enjoyed a lot of the walking dead but did find it was quite formulaic. Oh look, a new settlement , oh the leader is rotten and wants to take over our home, yay we beat him!

Bits of it hit hard, and I honestly think negan should have been killed. Carl was so annoying, as was Lori, was glad they got written out .

I loved the character of carol. And darryl.

mondaytosunday · 11/01/2025 09:02

It never finishes...
Have to say all the spin offs and now the extra three shows and with time jumps and crossovers and breaks between series part ones and twos and I need spreadsheet to keep track of it all! The Talking Dead after show was really enjoyable but it ended when they moved networks (at least it wasn't broadcast here anymore).

RosieLeaLovesTea · 11/01/2025 09:55

my favourites were Darryl and carol. I also wish Merle had not been killed off. It would have been interesting to see the dynamic played about between him and Darryl for longer.
