Christmas gifts on Vinted

I like to think I take a great deal of care and time in choosing gifts for others so I've been a bit sad to see that Christmas gifts I gave to someone are already listed on Vinted. What's your thoughts on this?
Not bother in future? Just give money instead? Do I let on that I have seen them?

Who is it? Child, friend or relative? Were they possibly duplicates? Did you offer gift receipts?

I'd maybe not say I'd seen them but would reconsider what I gave them next year.

itsstillmehere · 30/12/2024 11:14

Relative.

I'd be tempted to say just seen the gift on vinted, no need to sell it I have another friend that would have been thrilled with that gift, I'll take it back of your hands, she'll love it. Sorry it wasn't your cup of tea, I honestly thought you'd really like it.

Doggymummar · 30/12/2024 11:15

I wouldn't mention it, but next year make sure you ask them for a list, and stick to it.

Goast · 30/12/2024 11:15

I wouldn’t bother going forward.

OneWittySquid · 30/12/2024 11:17

I have been given a watch set off mil it's not my style at all and I never wear watches seems a shame to keep it there to gather dust when someone could have it and I get some money back for something i like. My dm gives me money or asks me what I like.

twilightcafe · 30/12/2024 11:17

Gift voucher next time.

naemates · 30/12/2024 11:18

I have some of my Xmas gifts on Vinted, what would you prefer I do? Bin them? Hand them back? Throw out something I own that I like to make space to store them for an indefinite period of time?

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 30/12/2024 11:18

Not much you can do really, other than offer them a gift receipt. Once you’ve given them a gift, it’s theirs to do as they please.

TotallyTwisted · 30/12/2024 11:23

What a cheeky cow to put gifts on Vinted less than a week after Christmas! That is both greedy and ungrateful. I wouldn't be getting them any more presents.

Bluelagoondrmr · 30/12/2024 11:28

How would you know this - do you follow their Vinted profile anyways? Otherwise it feels a bit weird that you know and that there must be a bit of a backstop in the relationship.

I came across it by accident when looking for a specific brand.

It’s difficult to say what was the reason without knowing at least one hat kind of gift it was - it could be anything. Could be a lack of money or space or allergies or reminding of something. Could be not their style

Sassybooklover · 30/12/2024 11:42

I have sold unwanted gifts before on eBay. I don't see the point in holding onto something, that I'm not going to use or don't like. My BIL and SIL bought me toiletries every year, for many years - I suffer from eczema and can't use most products - even though I have told them, it made no difference - so I sold their gifts. I've been bought bracelets before, and I don't wear bracelets, so I sold them.

pizzaHeart · 30/12/2024 11:43

itsstillmehere · 30/12/2024 11:38

I don't want to say as too outing.

And this the problem if it’s too outing it’s too specific so you need to know exactly that the person will like it.

stripeystripedstripes · 30/12/2024 11:44

So you chose it, they didn’t ask for it, and you didn’t include a gift receipt? Would you rather they kept it and didn’t use it?

Although personally I’d donate to a charity shop as I CBA with selling on Vinted.

DangerMouseAndPenfoldx · 30/12/2024 11:47

You gave it to them. It’s now theirs to do with as they wish.

You could feel bad for them that you didn’t really think through their gift well enough, but instead you seem to feel sorry for yourself, which seems a bit unreasonable.

Dotto · 30/12/2024 11:48

They haven't done anything wrong.

You say you take a lot of time and care choosing gifts - well clearly not enough.

Give cash or voucher in future.

OrangeQualityStreetAreTheBest · 30/12/2024 11:55

Family and husband ask relentlessly for a list, and then don't buy off it. Maybe they don't like what I've chosen.
They buy generally nice gifts, but not what I would have chosen. Some I'm happy with, some I already have. I want to list some on vinted but I feel its too soon - I would rather save the money towards something I want.

Snowmanscarf · 30/12/2024 11:59

Rude!

I put one of mine on Vinted, I’m still grateful for it and happy they clearly thought of me. But it just so happens that I’m allergic to it and it brings me out in a hivey rash. So I sold it on Vinted and repurchased a new one without that said ingredient.
