A true humanitarian .

knitnerd90 · 29/12/2024 21:26

Not the best president the US ever had, but one of the finest people to ever hold the office.

iwishihadaname · 29/12/2024 21:27

Rip

Snowmanscarf · 29/12/2024 21:27

The first former president to reach 100, I believe, and until he passed away, there were six US presidents still alive, which I believe is a record.

LisaJohnsonsFacebookMole · 29/12/2024 21:27

I thought he was already dead. So it feels weirdly un-newsy to me.

TotallyTwisted · 29/12/2024 21:28

Gosh what a shocker. Said no-one.

LuluBlakey1 · 29/12/2024 21:29

A life well-lived.

He was a really decent person whose values showed in how he spent his life and in the commitments he made to helping other people.

Gosh what a shocker. Said no-one.

Why bother to make a smart-Alec remark? It just leaves you sounding shitty.

tobee · 29/12/2024 21:30

Just posted this on the News board.

The peanut farmer with the big grin. Probably the first US president I remember getting elected.

He was married to Rosalynn, who died last year, for over 77 years; which is pretty amazing.

He was determined to hang on to vote Kamala Harris last month.

Topseyt123 · 29/12/2024 21:43

RIP Jimmy Carter. A good man. His humanitarian work after he left office was fantastic.

He had a good innings living to such a great age but it will still be very sad for his family. Thoughts are with them.

Are you always such a smarty pants?

SecretWitch · 29/12/2024 21:45

A decent and honorable man. Happy he didn't have to endure another Trump presidency

Brefugee · 29/12/2024 21:49

He was a truly inspirational person. A sad loss, but a good innings and a fantastic legacy.

Yes, definantly the first president I remember being elected. Everyone made a big thing that he was a peanut farmer.

DappledThings · 29/12/2024 21:58

Just yesterday he was in one of the questions in the Guardian weekend quiz in a list of people with the link being they'd made it to 100.

Cherrypickled · 29/12/2024 21:59

i thought he died years ago. Anyway RIP JC.

BilboBlaggin · 29/12/2024 22:06

It's sad that he's died, but he lived to a good age. I praise him for his timing though and hope his death and funeral takes the shine off of that twit Trump's inauguration.

https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/12/29/us/jimmy-carter?unlockedarticlecode=1.lE4.7nSi.tIe5lHoZqy4k&smid=url-share

Who amongst our still-living Prime Ministers could warrant such obituaries about his/her character, humanity, compassion, humanitarian works, lack of greed fir money, impact on lives of needy people?

Gordon Brown ? Certainly no other .

Cocolapew · 29/12/2024 22:58

What a great man he was.

StSwithinsDay · 29/12/2024 23:01

Are you particularly stupid or uneducated??

socialdilemmawhattodo · 29/12/2024 23:10

You'd have to be a special sort of wanker to say something like that.

mathanxiety · 30/12/2024 00:54

A better man by far than the next incumbent.

I can't imagine he wanted a big state funeral but I hope he'll have one, and I hope the honour bestowed on him will serve as a reminder of what American public discourse and political life have lost.

This is sad news.

I wonder how close the state funeral will be to the inauguration? I imagine it'll be pretty well attended.
