A true humanitarian who worked tirelessly after his term as President. His death is not shocking or a surprise, but it is sad to lose such a man who represented decency, faithfulness and selfless devotion to his country. Many politicians could learn so much from him.

One of the most decent men who has ever held office.

He was trounced by Reagan when he stood for re-election but had had to face situations like the Iranian Revolution and subsequent hostage crisis which would have been an unbelievably hard challenge for any incumbent to deal with effectively.

I hope that he's remembered not for that or for being a peanut farmer but for brokering the Middle East peace deal and for his decades of humanitarian work after his presidency.

I saw on the news that his wife only died last year and that they had been married for 77 years. I found it really touching to think of what a great partnership they had and am glad that he died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.

Not the best president the US ever had, but one of the finest people to ever hold the office.

I have read that he was the best former president. Very true.

He was a true egalitarian too.

My sister met him about 18 years ago in the US through work. She mentioned our surname was Carter and that our father was a great fan of his.
He told her he'd write to my father; took his name and address, and he did, saying how lovely my sister was and how proud my father should be of her.
What a lovely thing to do.

May his ideas keep travelling earth 🕊️

Just watched part of an interview with him from 2014. It struck me how far we've gone backwards since then especially with regards to peace in the Middle East and women's rights.

Very sad in lots of ways.
