Anyone else not seen Gavin & Stacy?

Or is it Stacey. I don’t even know what this show is about, who is in it, when it started, or why it seems to be such a big deal. I’m not interested enough to Google and I’ve only seen it mentioned (numerous times) on MN. I feel slightly out of the loop but too disinterested to do anything further about it than writing this post.

Never seen it. Can’t stand Corden or the other bloke. My BIL is a London cabbie and he said they’re the biggest pair of arseholes he’s ever had in the cab

I've saw clips and memes of the "what's occurring" character, and she irritated me on sight - in that way where some characters you warm to, and others you have an immediate adverse reaction to 😂 So no, I've watched not a minute.

@AmusedMaker - yes Alison Steadman is brilliant as Beverley but also superlative as Candace-Marie in Nuts in May ( a Play for Today available on line still ). Also showing my age.

Ooh let's do lists!

I haven't watched Gavin and Stacey as not fond of sitcoms although I thought The Office was so accurate it was excruciating.

Also never seen

Game of Thrones
Strictly come dancing
I am a celebrity
Happy Valley
Gentleman Jack
Friends
Anything involving sport

I do like some Netflix trash telly though

Queer Eye
Selling Sunset
Beneath the deck - last two so bad they're funny.

Happy Valley is a masterpiece! I’m envious you’ve still got it all to enjoy if you wanted to x

AnyoneSomeone · 28/12/2024 12:09

We could fill this thread with programmes we have never seen,

Bridgerton

sampquib · 28/12/2024 12:12

It's on a par with Mrs Brown's Boys, as comedy goes...

Bloom15 · 28/12/2024 12:14

I've never seen it either

Cattery · 28/12/2024 12:24

Some of us have relatives who insist on triumphantly reading out bits of its contents at random moments throughout the day.Xmas Sad

That doesn't make anyone an expert though.

The loudest anti DM vessels on MN seem to know about every story in it at any given time.

Yet they would never apparently lower themselves enough to read it Wink

AnyoneSomeone · 28/12/2024 12:27

Happy Valley
Game of Thrones
MAFS

Yes. I’ve never seen a single episode of Friends, because it’s not my kind of thing, but it wouldn’t occur to me to post on here to see how many others hadn’t.

Don't have a go at people. It's Christmas. It's an open forum. People can post what they like.

I am exactly the same. Haven't got a clue and can't be bothered to find out.

StMarie4me · 28/12/2024 12:54

I don't see the point of your post? 12 million people watched meaning circa 60 million didn't. 🤷🏻‍♀️

embolass · 28/12/2024 12:56

Nope and it’s definitely not on my list to 😅

BluebirdBoogie · 28/12/2024 13:00

"competitive disinterest" is my new favourite phrase!

Gavin & Stacey appeals to many as it was character-driven, as was Friends. People get to know the characters and are interested in what's happened to them (Outnumbered is another example).

Watching one episode is never going to show you why people enjoy these shows.

I thought I'd hate Friends, as I'm not a fan of US comedy on the whole, but watched one or two episodes and got hooked. Starting to watch it now wouldn't work, as times have changed so much.

So please stop criticising programmes that millions love to watch. With the exception of Mrs Brown's Boys obviously 😂

Wendolino · 28/12/2024 13:00

You're interested enough to start a conversation about how uninterested in it you are, even pretending to not know how to spell it. Is it fomo?

My DH took against the guy who plays Gavin as he once pushed past us really rudely in the street during the Edinburgh Fringe and then gave us a dirty look! Never watched it anyway, tbf.

I used to like Corden when he was in this 90s mockumentary about a boy band (written by Lucas, Walliams and Richard Osman). It’s been downhill since then.

RaininSummer · 28/12/2024 13:08

I watched 10 mins once then turned it off as definitely not my thing. No idea what all the fuss is about.

Cattery · 28/12/2024 13:15

@FuckItItsFine Yeh I can believe that. Total bellend x

ExquisiteDecorations · 28/12/2024 13:17

Never seen a single episode of it.

Moonshine5 · 28/12/2024 13:18

Agree OP.
Plus not a Corden fan.

MagentaRocks · 28/12/2024 13:23

Never seen it, but I might binge watch it at some point when I have got through my current list.
