Does anyone else have a perfect sister in law!?

Now I don't want to get a kicking from the usual meanies; I just wonder if there's anyone out there with a superstar sister in law that you love and who loves you but you end up feeling the inevitable deflation at the comparison others must make.

Please don't tell me I'm insecure and/or jealous. I'm looking for genuine empathy - not for the stating of the obvious!

I don't want to ID us so I will not describe her glories. Suffice to say - you know if you have one!

I will get over it by tomorrow.

I'm there are more of them around than it seems on MN. People don't post about ordinary happiness - it's the bad news that travels.

Chocolateorange01 · 28/12/2024 10:36

Wish I did! Mines the worst of the worse.

MrsDThaskala · 28/12/2024 10:39

I feel I have one, but in her parents eyes for sure.

Frightenedbunny · 28/12/2024 10:43

My sister in law in first marriage was amazing. She was my best friend. Second marriage not at all. She’s the most miserable person I have ever met!

squashyhat · 28/12/2024 10:46

I don't but my sister-in-law does.

grafittiartist · 28/12/2024 10:49

From your title- yes I have 3 perfect SIL
Perfect in that we get along, I really like them all and they all love my kids and I love theirs. Lucky me.

From your post- no-
Never ever feel in competition with them.
We're all different people.
Again- lucky me.

stayathomer · 28/12/2024 10:52

Love my sil and love having her about when they come to visit but yes every so often I have to shake off the green eyed monster, she’s high up in her job, lovely, hilarious, helpful, an amazing cook and baker, fab mum, and knowledgeable on everything and anything. I am not most of these things!

DustyMaiden · 28/12/2024 10:54

Yes two, both lovely. Very different but both looked after and loved my dBs .

postingpastbedtime · 28/12/2024 11:03

My sister in laws are all amazing. but my eldest SIL is 25 years older than me so she is always 'treating' me. She sees me as a little sister and babies my husband as he is the youngest of 11 and the only boy even though im in my 20s and my husband in his 30s 😂 (she was 21 when my husband was born)

wildfellhall · 28/12/2024 11:14

This is very positive thanks. I do almost always just see the positives.

I have 3 perfect ones. In Scotland, Lincolnshire and St Vincent.
I seldom see any of them.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 28/12/2024 11:24

I have 2
My brother's wife who is absolutely lovely and I have a great relationship with

And my dh's sister who I have absolutely no relationship with at all.

NobleDeeds · 28/12/2024 11:35

I have five SILs. Two I’m very fond of, one I haven’t seen in many years because her DH is estranged from the family, one is a joyless fun sponge, and one means well and is good for my DB but is incredibly tactless and socially clumsy.

But, objectively, I’m the one who would ‘win’ if someone was strange enough to set up some kind of competition between us, so no.

was going to say this!

IsItCasual · 28/12/2024 11:37

One of my SILs is just wonderful. I love her so much and feel really thankful she's part of our family.

IncessantNameChanger · 28/12/2024 11:46

Yes on the face of it my sil is perfect. Beautiful, kind, caring. Not sure I'd want to swop places as I feel sometimes she is a bit innocent to some peoples bad side ( fil crying to her he never see my kids while also telling dh he is too busy to see us while never offering up a date he is free etc) so I feel because she is kind and trusting she gets played a bit. No kids but wanted them. Bil working all over the world so rarely sees her. I genuinely love her but look a bit deeper and no one has it all perfect.

FannyFernackerpants · 28/12/2024 11:49

@wildfellhall maybe your SIL feels the same about you? You love her and she loves you so she clearly sees something in you!!

Frightenedbunny · 28/12/2024 11:50

@NobleDeeds ”one is a joyless fun sponge” Have you stolen my SIL?

wildfellhall · 28/12/2024 12:09

squashyhat · 28/12/2024 10:46

I don't but my sister-in-law does.

I love this too

On my side she is lovely.

On DH side perfect because she is dead.
Hated by everyone even her children
At her funeral one said they only came to make sure
she was dead.
I could write a book on her nastiness.

Jesus 😬 I know in families people
Sometimes don't like each other but that's another level 😬

Sparkle88K · 28/12/2024 12:33

First was lovely, she was a laugh & we all had a nice time in her company. I do miss her.
Second is awful & extremely confrontational for no reason other than to enjoy making people feel comfortable.

bloodredfeaturewall · 28/12/2024 12:34

I have 2 who are both lovely, non-judegemental unlike rest of family, warm hearted and funny.

Porkyporkchop · 28/12/2024 12:35

Mine is an evil self absorbed shit stirrer.
