A thread for people who have had a great day

So many threads of people posting about their shitty days and I feel so bad this day is such an awful day for so many people. So I thought I'd start a thread for those of us who had a genuinely lovely day!

I woke up just after 8am, husband had been up for an hour sorting the turkey and had let the kids have 30 mins on screens so they wouldn't wake me up. We had a quick breakfast and started presents at 9. Me and husband had bucks fizz all morning whilst we all did presents - i had several lovely things I'd previously hinted at and a few surprises

I spent a nice hour getting glammed up with my daughter hanging out with me, I let her play with my make up then curled her hair.

Went downstairs to a fab platter my husband had made and after we finished eating we went for a walk

Got back, played a game and husband finished the dinner and I sorted the table (mostly decanted wine and lit candles). Dinner was served (by husband who had cooked it all 😁) and we hung out for a while reading the trivia questions from the crackers.

I did some cleaning up (alone, with the TV on - loved it) then we went for a walk and watched the Wallace and Grommit film

Everyone now in bed and I'm drinking wine and watching a Christmas horror film (my happy place)

Anyone else had a lovely day??

Yes OP I have had a wonderful day, absolutely shattered now I’ve sat down & all the chaos will start again tomorrow as we are hosting our annual big family Boxing Day party & I love that too. Although, I haven’t yet seen any negative posts about people’s day, I’m sure I’ll come across some now I’ve mentioned it.

Yellowcakestand · 26/12/2024 00:07

I have actually. My son has been well behaved (complete turnaround from yesterday). Early start at 6am then put on an xmas film after presents and i got an hours doze on the sofa. Visited sister in the morning. Theb to my aunts where my parents and 12 other family members were. Had a lovely lunch, drinks then games. Just sat and watched tv and now in bed. Wide awake!

CRE2024 · 26/12/2024 00:14

Best day ever. Just the four of us. Teen and tween slept until 10.30. Lovely gifts all round and everyone happy and excited by what they got. Chilled until dinner at 5 then after that, we went for a big walk in the dark. Home for board games and a movie. No stress .. no pressure .. just a lovely, lovely day.

Catsmere · 26/12/2024 00:17

I had a very enjoyable day. I don't celebrate Christmas, but it was very enjoyable nonetheless! Staying out of the heat, browsing the internet, watching programs, and knitting. Suited me very well. :)

Damnloginpopup · 26/12/2024 00:18

Been brilliant. Started off with my partner. Met up on my run with eldest daughter, ex and partner. Changed, enjoyed watching the beach swim, back to partners, both daughters came over then off to my parents. Wonderful day and evening, food was superb, lovely moist flavourful turkey, presents were all good, played cards, bit of silliness, constant farts. Now in a sleeping bag on the lounge floor just after midnight.

One to savour and remember and none of the performative misery of the bulk of Mumsnet. Glad I'm not the only one!

TeaHagTeaBag · 26/12/2024 00:20

Overall a lovely day. I'm lucky to have a family I love and who love me.

This is - or could be - a lovely thread and I’m glad so many had a wonderful day - but there’s no need for comments like this.

HorrorFan81 · 26/12/2024 00:22

Yeah! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I guess people are naturally drawn to post when they are unhappy but its nice to read happy stories 😊

Had low expectations here and it was all lovely 😊 Mother in law much better than expected and all the children (grown up) enjoyed it

cheesychipsontheoche · 26/12/2024 00:23

I've had a bloody lovely day

Kids loved their presents.

Christmas dinner was decent.

BIL fucked off home at a reasonable hour

Gavin and Stacey was proper lush.

Happy times

LoafofSellotape · 26/12/2024 00:24

Yes,I have 😊 very low key but really lovely. Lunch at 2 then a walk and watched Gavin and Stacey this evening. Presents were lovely and we're going through a difficult time at the moment waiting for some health results and it was just nice to have a day together.

feejee · 26/12/2024 00:25

I've had a lovely day with my parents, mum has terminal cancer so wasn't sure we'd even get this day. But she's been cooking the dinner with me and been on good form. My son has been busy all day looking at his new bits and finished the day enjoying Gavin & Stacey. Perfect, calm, pleasant day.

My day has been fabulous aside from having trapped wind for about two hours earlier

Does anyone know any fast acting remedies for future episodes 😂 I’d like to be prepared for next year

Poor dh was affected too

Gaviscon extra. Or champagne. You're welcome 😊 (I hope you're feeling OK again)

I had a lovely day. After several years being unhappily married, where Christmas Day was often a flashpoint for passive aggressive sulks, now I am happily divorced, reading all of the tragic tales of awful Christmases on here is actually one of my Christmas day guilty pleasures. I can remember when my Christmas days were awful and it makes me doubly glad that I enjoy them to the full now.

Lie on your back and bring your knees up one at a time to your stomach, then both at the same time. Works on babies 😁

Emelene · 26/12/2024 00:31

I have! Kids woke up at 7:30. They loved their presents, had a great time at church and Christmas lunch at the in law’s. I managed a nap (first trimester exhaustion!) and my husband has just bought me the most thoughtful gift - a little engraved figurine set with our names on, and with our new baby in it too. Cherry on the cake really.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 26/12/2024 00:34

Today was the best Christmas since my mum died. We went at the children's pace, and ended up watching the first Lord of the Rings film. My husband did not get stressed cooking dinner. I washed up while watching a Poirot - after the children went to bed having gone to bed peacefully for the first time in I don't know how long. And my dad was incredibly well behaved affectionate and kind all day long. And we have our lovely friends coming over tomorrow to eat a meal that my husband prepared on Christmas Eve without me even noticing he was doing it. I honestly don't remember being this happy on Christmas evening.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 26/12/2024 00:38

Yes super relaxed. Just me and my DS20. Bucks Fizz and croissants, DS and Ddog opening stockings, got a lovely gift from Zara Home after copious hints to DS 😅 plus an extra v thoughtful gift.

Prepped lunch and treated us to gorgeous food from France yesterday, so it was super easy and delish.

Couple of movies, Wallace and Gromit and then cried buckets at Gavin and Stacey while DS handed me some tissues. Am feeling a bit of "hiraeth" after watching, but going home to the UK in a few weeks so it wasn't a horrible feeling, just a nice longing for family.

LoserWinner · 26/12/2024 00:38

A glorious, peaceful day on my own. I woke late after going to midnight mass last night. There was a box of small gifts to open. Breakfast was smoked salmon and soda bread with a mince pie to follow while I listened to the radio.

I skipped lunch - that is to say, I picked at the tin of Quality Street so often that lunch was unnecessary. I’ve worked my way to the bottom of a bottle of Prosecco over the course of the day. Dinner this evening was pigs in blankets, roast veg, stuffing and bread sauce - all the best bits of traditional Christmas dinner without the excess or the hassle.

I’ve spoken with the kids on the phone (all now adults doing their own Christmases) and I’m just finishing the last of the Prosecco before I fall into bed. It’s all been lovely.

JuvenileBigfoot · 26/12/2024 00:39

I've had a lovely day too ☺️
Stayed at my mums last night as my sister, brother in law and niblings are currently with her saving for a deposit.
Kids up at 6. Presents. Breakfast (we have crossoints with cheese and honey). Then I drove the 20mins home to get ready and have a nap before me and sister and family headed to our Nan's care home while mum stayed home and cooked (she is our late dad's mum and my mum is VERY happy to get the house to herself for a few hours). Care home had a lovely atmosphere, nan is happy (no dementia, just a crappy body) and we felt so much better then in previous years where we visited her at home and left her alone.

Then back to mums for epic dinner, then games. I'm just heading to bed.

MrsApplepants · 26/12/2024 00:44

I’ve had a brilliant day. Awake at 8.30, me DH and teen DD opened stockings in bed followed by main presents. DD loved all hers and was touchingly grateful. DH gave me all the things I asked for and some other, really thoughtful gifts and he loved my gifts for him. We had a leisurely breakfast, walked the dogs then went to mum and dads for dinner, which was fab, joined by DSis and BIL and their two little kids who were just lovely. We all get on really well so it was a great day. Came home, ate picky tea and watch call the midwife and Gavin and Stacey. Fab day.

flatpack1 · 26/12/2024 00:44

Had a lovely day. DS and partner cooked a lovely meal. All DGC had great gifts, DCat and DDog seem happy with their gifts and extra special meals

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 26/12/2024 00:49

Had a lovely chilled day. This is likely to be my last Christmas as I have terminal cancer and I’m disgusted at the amount of posts complaining about gifts they didn’t want or not having anything special to eat for snacks!

I'm so glad you've had a nice day, we have a friend in the same boat and I've been thinking about her a lot today x
