A thread for people who have had a great day

So many threads of people posting about their shitty days and I feel so bad this day is such an awful day for so many people. So I thought I'd start a thread for those of us who had a genuinely lovely day!

I woke up just after 8am, husband had been up for an hour sorting the turkey and had let the kids have 30 mins on screens so they wouldn't wake me up. We had a quick breakfast and started presents at 9. Me and husband had bucks fizz all morning whilst we all did presents - i had several lovely things I'd previously hinted at and a few surprises

I spent a nice hour getting glammed up with my daughter hanging out with me, I let her play with my make up then curled her hair.

Went downstairs to a fab platter my husband had made and after we finished eating we went for a walk

Got back, played a game and husband finished the dinner and I sorted the table (mostly decanted wine and lit candles). Dinner was served (by husband who had cooked it all 😁) and we hung out for a while reading the trivia questions from the crackers.

I did some cleaning up (alone, with the TV on - loved it) then we went for a walk and watched the Wallace and Grommit film

Everyone now in bed and I'm drinking wine and watching a Christmas horror film (my happy place)

Anyone else had a lovely day??

Had a lovely chilled day. This is likely to be my last Christmas as I have terminal cancer and I’m disgusted at the amount of posts complaining about gifts they didn’t want or not having anything special to eat for snacks!

💐glad you had a lovely day x

Had a lovely day. Last year was not great for us we lost close relatives but this year the stars all aligned.

Gifts were fab and well thought out, food was lovely and everyone helped out. It was great having young adult DC around, great vibes. A thoroughly enjoyable day. Sat here watching the last Matrix film, sipping on a chilled drink with munchies. I have never been happier.

We had a fantastic day! We're staying at my parents'. DC woke us at 7, we watched them open their FC sack presents. DPs and DSIS emerged around 8:30, had a light breakfast and bucks fizz then opened presents. I was delighted with what I got and I think everyone else was too.

Played some of the DCs new games, then I went for a 2 hour nap (recovering from a medical procedure on 23rd). Got woken up when Christmas dinner was ready, went for a dog walk then had an afternoon/evening of more games, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Outnumbered, cheese & biscuits and mulled wine.

I had a lie in while my partner went to do some visiting, then we exchanged gifts (mine were all lovely thoughtful things), ate some lovely bits and drank some champagne, went for a walk, made dinner together (which was so lovely!) and then watched some movies with a bottle of wine. Very grateful to have had a lovely relaxing pressure-free day.

Yes, we've had a lovely day. We woke at 9.00 and our ds, 19 brought in his stocking to open in our room as he's always done, which is a lovely start to the day. We then went downstairs where I had arranged all the presents last night placed in front of our seats and we take turns opening gifts while the others watch. Everyone loved their gifts and i was thoroughly spoilt by dh and ds with really thoughtful, lovely suprises and things i had mentioned when asked! I made bacon sandwiches for brunch. Dh cooked the entire Christmas dinner as always. We collected mum for lunch which was the absolute best present as she was only discharged from hospital 2 days ago after being in for a week. I was also seriously ill last Christmas so today was celebratory. We had a wonderful, delicious Christmas dinner with lots of laughter and fun with the crackers, table gifts and even some singing of Christmas songs with ds playing his guitar. We took mum home then as she was exhausted. Got back and me and dh settled down then to watch Christmas TV whilst ds pottered around in his room and played his guitar in his music room.
Now, just chilling in bed. I've had a great day and feel very lucky and grateful for my wonderful family.

Other than turning full force into an open cupboard door and ending up with a bump in the middle of my forehead I have had a lovely day. Woken at 7, as is tradition by all 3 kids, 19, 12 and 9. They set their alarms and come in but this year it didn't go to plan as the 12 year old was attempting to play a Christmas song through YouTube on the phone but we got serenaded by an ad instead. It was lovely to hear them laughing together sorting that out.
Kids loved their gifts, started with the Santa stuff. Had fresh waffles- dd asked for a wafflemaker for Christmas. Fsmily presents went down really well, kids were very thoughtful and i have cinema vouchers, a copy of Dracula and a POP figure of Yara Greyjoy to enjoy from them. Then pottered around, finishing desserts etc before going to parents house, everyone worked together in cooking and cleaning up and looking after the grandkids. Everyone from the toddlers up had a lovely afternoon, eating and playing etc. Then home for a bit of calm before bed. Even the puppy behaved relatively well!

I've been alone today and it's been lovely. I was worried with not even having anyone to call I'd get depressed but I haven't at all. It helped I woke to a bunch of happy Christmas texts.

Went to a Xmas display first thing which was amazing and on the way saw full families walking about outside in matching pyjamas.
Then went back to my hotel and watched films and had a snack.

Now I'm enjoying a buffet with endless drinks and happy I won't have to clean up.

It's worked out a lot better than I expected. I'm really enjoying reading the happy threads as I eat.

KenAdams · 26/12/2024 02:04

I had an operation last month and had convinced myself I wasn't going to be here today or in no fit state to celebrate. I've spent a month getting myself ready for today and (with help) cooked everything, played games, had a few drinks and had a full day with my family. I'm paying for it now and am back on the pain relief but it was all worth it.

Frangywangywoowah · 26/12/2024 02:24

Yep lovely day.
Up, dog had pressies, tea in bed.
brunch
Walked dog and bumped into people for chat.
In laws for dinner, games. Wallace and Grommitt and G and S.
Home and chill

DH was in hospital last Xmas and NY so we wanted to make this one special. We loafed about, napped and watched telly. It was brilliant.

I cooked a meal and every part was good which isn't like me as I am crap in the kitchen.

He is still ill. He has to have radiotherapy in the NY but for now, we are going to eat, drink and enjoy ourselves.

I am happy you had a lovley day.

It must be very sharp, knowing what is ahead.

I am not sure what to say, in the face of that, but I do want to acknowledge you, and the enormity of it all.

xx

I've had a lovely day. Busy but good. My mum has dementia and some days does not know who I am. Today she was on great form, she was well and knew everything. It's making me tear up typing this as these days are getting less and the fact she was well on Christmas was perfect. We had a long lunch, lots of fizz and she sang and laughed as she used to. She fell asleep in her chair with her Christmas hat over her eyes. 🩷

andIsaid · 26/12/2024 02:55

Ours was lovey.

We have had some very sad times recently.

So, our little family has moved into a different era. The teens were wonderful - they piled into our bed with tea and panetone this am. We opened presents by the fire with Meet Me in St. Louis on in the background.

Food was great and clean up was a fun dance party.

It felt very meaningful and profound this year.

I actually never thought I would end up here, with this type of a family. I am so bloody grateful.

This Christmas was our best by far even though we spent less than ever before and did the least amount of prep.

I think that helped actually. It was about us, not stuff.

Powderblue1 · 26/12/2024 03:33

Yes it was lovely. Early start for us as DC 5
& 7. They were so happy and grateful for their gifts. Then we went out for a lovely lunch for a few hours and back for a treasure hunt so they could find out we're taking them to Lapland.

Once they were off to bed DH and I had a few drinks and watched a film we had been saving and had a nice chilled night. Bliss

Mymanyellow · 26/12/2024 03:47

Great day here too. Work first, all the lads in supported living opened presents, put the dinner on then left when the next shift arrived. Round to my dds had lovely dinner there. Had lovely thoughtful presents. Played games with dgd. Snacks, wine, best trifle ever. Just nice and festive and calm.

mumwithallthebooks · 26/12/2024 03:56

Lovely, lovely day.
I'm waiting for biopsy results at the moment and whilst I'm 99% sure everything will work out fine, it has made me readjust my thinking about priorities etc. It also meant this was perhaps a simpler Christmas. What a privilege it is to be a parent, especially on a very small child's first 'proper Christmas.' Beautiful watching his complete joy opening presents and later having cuddles under the tree lights. Christmas can be such a crap time for many, but this year has been right in all the right ways!

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 26/12/2024 07:34

Really lovely. Always worried that ds2 (grown up) will go off on one (mix of anxiety, knackeredness and being a grumpy git) But genuinely great. Even had a hysterical game from the crackers. Got lovely thoughtful presents and ours were appreciated. Even Gavin and Stacy hating ds came down and watched it. Will walk dogs today, dh will watch footy, and everyone can have a lie in.

Grievingxmas · 26/12/2024 07:41

I had a good Xmas day. My dad was supposed to be with us for dinner but died suddenly and unexpectedly 2 weeks ago so it's all a bit raw. DH made a lovely photo wall of him and a speech before dinner, dad had bought a bottle of wine for Xmas day that we drank and toasted him to. The day was long but full of my extended family popping on and they all liked my turkey, ham and desserts. Finally, DC were thrilled with their presents, even though I forgot all the normal stocking fillers with the events of the last 2 weeks.

GameOfJones · 26/12/2024 08:14

We had a fantastic day. DDs are 7 and 5 and were up at 6am as they couldn't contain their excitement.

We all went downstairs and opened presents but took our time over it so spread it out throughout the day. Everyone was happy and grateful with their gifts, DH had arranged with DDs to replace a necklace of mine that they snapped a few months ago by pulling the chain. Apparently DDs had done some little jobs to earn some pocket money to put towards it and it was such a lovely surprise.

Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels and Bucks Fizz for breakfast for DH and I and DDs wanted Nutella bagels. Then DH and I prepped Christmas dinner together, I did most of the oven juggling and he did all the washing up.

We had a walk after lunch then friends came over for some drinks but we ended up all watching Wallace and Gromit which everyone loved. Then DDs to bed, some more drinks with friends and they headed home around 10pm so I was in bed and asleep around 11pm. I normally stay up til midnight on Christmas Day to see the day out but I was shattered but happy.

bookworm14 · 26/12/2024 08:24

We had a really lovely relaxed day. We’re staying with DH’s sister and BIL and kids. BIL is a brilliant cook and did the whole dinner. DD loved and was grateful for her presents, and played nicely with her cousins. I got some lovely things including something I’ve been wanting for years. Now looking forward to a nice Boxing Day walk!

bookworm14 · 26/12/2024 08:25

I’m so sorry Grievingxmas - glad you were still able to have a nice day.
