How on earth can something just vanish?

I had my earbuds just the other day. I definitely had them on Wednesday morning. I went into the kitchen listening to music. I made a cup of coffee and went to my room. I likely would have taken out my earbuds at some stage. Quite possibly in my room too.

Now I can't find them them.

I don't know if I put them into my pocket going to work.

I can't remember if I had them yesterday on Thursday in work. I definitely didn't use them at home. I don't know if I was thinking about putting them into my ears in work yesterday on Thursday but then I decided against it for sure.

All day today I checked in all of the obvious places in work. I checked in my bag and even did a deep clean in my bag. I checked a lot of sections in my room. I even checked my robes pockets. Not there. I checked the pockets of the clothes I had on Wednesday. Not there. I checked the laundry basket. Not there. They did not need charging any time recently.

I checked in all of the obvious places but I just can't find them.

How can they just vanish?

In recent months as well, I stopped wearing them while going out on walks and I play my phone on loudspeaker now instead.

I even checked my lunch bag. Not there.

They just vanished. I definitely had them early Wednesday afternoon or late in the morning. It's only since this morning I realised I don't have them.

I checked in my bed, under my pillows and around the bed in case they fell on the floor. But I still can't find them.

Check your washing basket and if it has a material liner look underneath this.

YouMeandBrie · 20/12/2024 21:45

This has happened to me twice in my house, both times with necklaces. Only one has ever turned up years later.

Can you connect them to your phone and “call” them?

Monvelo · 20/12/2024 21:46

Have they run off with the book I got my youngest for Christmas...

I lost my earphones too, never did find them.

comedycentral · 20/12/2024 21:46

I lost them are work once and they had fallen down hidden part of the desk between the desk and wall! I even ordered new ones before I found them! Otherwise I also randomly left them on top of the hand drier as I discovered them in my back pocket before using the toilet. I hope you find them, they will be somewhere like a pocket or they've fallen.

EmeraldRoulette · 20/12/2024 21:46

Have you looked properly underneath all bits of furniture? Shaken out the duvet?

LuluBlakey1 · 20/12/2024 21:47

Do you have small children? DS2 had a habit of throwing DH's down the back of the tv.

TobiasForgesContactLense · 20/12/2024 21:47

They are stuck to the roll of sellotape that evaporated into thin air when I dropped it yesterday!

FelicityBeedle · 20/12/2024 21:47

Someone stole them as punishment for walking with your phone on loudspeaker 😁

I was just about to write this 😂

Fragggggie · 20/12/2024 21:48

I checked my laundry basket but I did not do a deep clean on it. I doubt they would be there. I did check half of the laundry basket though.

In the bathroom or in the fridge?

Please do find them and use them on walks so people dont have to listen to your phone though.

Fragggggie · 20/12/2024 21:49

The earpods are in the case so I am unable to connect to them.

Nevervisible · 20/12/2024 21:50

Oh I sympathise.
I lost a pair of glasses a couple of weeks ago. I lost them in my bedroom. And can I find them? Absolutely not. I can only assume they fell in the waste paper bin and are long gone when the wheelie was emptied. That's the only logical explanation.
I've lost goodness knows how many earrings similarly.
It's so infuriating OP.

Dominicains · 20/12/2024 21:50

After almost a year of looking for them, mine were in the pocket of a coat I rarely wear. Now they are in my “find my” group and I know how to summon them. Try pockets of all your clothes, OP.

Dominicains · 20/12/2024 21:51

Mine have to be in the case to locate them, but it’s just a normal case, not a cover for a case.

stargazerlil · 20/12/2024 21:52

They’ll be in the lining of something, a hole in pocket or the lining of a bag.

I wear leggings and dresses and the majority of my clothes don't have pockets. I did have pockets on Wednesday but I checked that. I checked my jacket pockets but not there. I do have a cross over body bag - a mini one for my phone and I checked there but no luck there.

I definitely had them on Wednesday morning/afternoon before going to work. I don't usually listen to my earbuds on the way to work so I would have taken them out at some stage and likely while I was getting ready for work. And now I just can't find them.

I checked on the floor around the chair that my jacket usually goes on, but nothing.

Usually I don't take off my clothes and I wear them going to bed. I don't think I had them in my pocket going to bed on Wednesday.

I can't remember if I was holding them in my work yesterday or not.

I tore the place up looking for them but no luck.

You wear your day clothes to bed?

Edited

Yes, it's a horrible habit I developed last year I think due to depression. Not diagnosed and I am functional but my god I can feel so so so shit at times. I have a range of symptoms like

  • just going to bed, wearing my clothes. Without brushing my teeth. I changed in the morning and I brush my teeth in the morning.
  • then buying food foodstuffs every week with the intention of cooking but hardly ever having the energy to do so.

I did a brief look into bins. And it's not in bins.

I looked in work as well today and they weren't in work. There's noone in work to steal them.

Oh it’s so annoying isn’t it? I lost my wedding ring 4 months ago. I know it’s in the house but I just don’t know where.

I've got used to that happening when I'm wrapping presents. The pen, scissors or the sellotape will disappear every time and turn up next day somewhere different.

Gordonramsayatemyhomework · 20/12/2024 23:31

I lost mine in a similar way, they've been gone for weeks. Found them in an obscure pocket of a rarely used bag this morning.
