Feeling like something gets stuck under rib when bending over eg in forward fold

It only ever happens in a particular position eg a forward fold in yoga or just now when I was sitting cross legged and folding over to do my bikini line/bits! It began happening after the birth of my second child (which was a section) and it's only ever in that position. It bloody hurts! I have to stretch out straight to make it go away - it feels awful! Can anybody relate?

Is it on the RHS? Might be related to gallbladder?

Cathelptumour · 19/12/2024 17:40

Yes me! Also two children (but both vaginal births) and it also only started after the second. For me it feels like something has moved into the wrong place under my left ribs and it sort of takes my breath away. It’s when I fold my body together. My youngest is 6 now and I keep meaning to see a doctor but I don’t know how to explain it properly. Or what on earth they would do.

I think this has a name - floating rib maybe?

Yes me too! Very rare, but like if I put on socks. Real ouch! Had my children years ago though.

RedRosesPinkLilies · 19/12/2024 17:43

Hiatus hernia? I think I get same sometimes, and I know I have a small hh

LuckysDadsHat · 19/12/2024 17:43

I get this if I stretch or bend in different ways. It's like a cramp type of pain but in the ribs. It is agony.

I don’t know!! But I’m glad I’m not alone. Shall we all make a pact to see a GP and report back??

tintinsanfran123 · 19/12/2024 17:43

I’m had something similar after birth of my child and I saw GP. Had X-rays, scans and bloods but nothing ever showed up in anything. Same thing, it’s just in certain positions so they said it must be muscular / postural…

CatsLikeBoxes · 19/12/2024 17:45

I used to have this but not any more. I had to put my hand against the place it hurts while still bent over to stop it happening. No idea what it was though

@Cathelptumour yes maybe we should! I've got a huge list of things to ask the gp so I'll add this 😂

Yes happens to me sometimes in yoga or pilates class. I have to lie flat on my tummy to make it stop. Very annoying!

😂😂 me too - also things I’ve been dealing with for 6 years. I don’t know where to start now!

So they don’t know in other words!!

schmalex · 19/12/2024 17:49

Yes! I have exactly this on the left side. It's really difficult to explain!

lovelydayIhave · 19/12/2024 17:49

Yes I have this too, it started after birth.

Me too. I always thought it was cramp under my ribs, but maybe it is something else 🤔 it started after I had my son, over 20 years ago, and it still happens every so often. It's so painful and sometimes takes ages to get rid of by stretching out.

MsMajeika · 19/12/2024 17:51

I've also had this since the birth of my second DC! It happens when I sit up from a lying position or reach for something from a sitting position.

I have a slight build and, when it happens, I can see how something around my ribs seems to contract inwards until the pain subsides after a few mins. It's excruciating and can sometimes still be achy the next day. I get it on both sides.

Ihavearedbag · 19/12/2024 17:52

I’ve always had this! Like a muscle has folded inside out. I have to breathe slowly until it works itself out

Ihavearedbag · 19/12/2024 17:53

I’ve never really worried about it tbh. Bodies be weird

MainStreetOrHighStreet · 19/12/2024 17:54

And you have to stretch in the weirdest positions to get it to go away. I have put mine down to perimenopause. But now I'm wondering if it's to do with childbirth. My youngest is 7.

SaltyLemons · 19/12/2024 17:58

I'm so glad I posted! I feel so relieved that it's a thing
