Christmas Cheese

This is about actual cheese, not movies and music!

This is what we have so far! What are we missing (apart from Saint Paulin/Port Salut, which we are already aware of).

And, please show me your Christmas cheese selection!

Wenslydale with cranberries
Gloucestershire Cheddar with chives
Cheddar with pickled onion. The best thing ever!
Boursin
That flat roulle thing that is a bit like boursin.
Cambozola or gorgonzola

Not for me- but maybe a hard sheep's cheese and goats cheese?

Inextremis · 18/12/2024 21:25

Isigny Raw Milk Camembert
Bookers Vintage
Colston Basset Stilton
Petit Reblochon
Farmhouse Goat Cheese with Truffle
Aged Gruyere
Aged Emmental
Strong vintage cheddar

NoWordForFluffy · 18/12/2024 21:26

We have Shropshire Blue, Stilton and Brie from Aldi, together with German smoked cheese slices with chilli.

Then the attached is my order from the local cheese shop.

I also ordered this selection, but we've had the Reserva already.

They won't all go out at once, I'll mix it up a bit!

Oh dear! Cheddar with pickled onions is my worst cheese. We couldn't be friends. Or maybe we could? You eat your cheese, and I eat mine, and we don't have to fight over the final slither...

Cambozola is a fantastic call! Not only do I love it, but I'd kinda forgotten about it, and it's delicious!

Can’t really see what you’ve got there but I recommend a reblochon! So stinky!

Wensleydale with cranberries!

Surely that's a hanging offence?

Worldgonecrazy · 18/12/2024 21:34

kitchenplans · 18/12/2024 21:10

What's this like? And where can I get it...

Yummy, smelly and available at Waitrose

Epoisse that’s my favourite Christmas treat. I can’t justify the expense apart from Christmas.

was about to say this one. it is the ultimate in cheese decadence. oh and a cheese with truffle as well - heaven!

TheMousePipes · 18/12/2024 21:36

I have yet to pick up the Baron Bigod - that’s a belter too!

One of our local restaurants do this warm with toasted walnuts and honey, a piece of heaven I have yet to get right at home.

Cornish cruncher from M&S is my current favourite. Tried black bomber but wasn't as impressed.

Wensleydale with cranberries is wrong. All those flavoured cheeses are wrong.

I like a Gruyère.

MoonWoman69 · 19/12/2024 07:44

Langres is beautiful! I have only found it at Morrisons. It's different, which makes it so lovely!

MissyB1 · 19/12/2024 07:49

Definitely Black bomber!

IceCreamMundae · 19/12/2024 07:51

What it’s really missing is a copy of the Cheesmonger’s history of the British Isles resting lightly in the corner. As well as being a fascinating history of our cheese making nation, it has also pointed me to some amazing flavours.

AuntieMarys · 19/12/2024 07:53

Lord London cheese is amazing

mitogoshigg · 19/12/2024 07:57

Stilton, Gorgonzola, Lidl do one called fromage a la mountain (spelling not my strong suit), really stinky Camembert ... must buy cheese!

Epoisse is cheese of the gods.

Waitrose stock it as part of their No.1 range, and I've spotted it in M&S a few times. Ideally very room temperature-y, so it goes delicious and disgustingly oozy.

RoseyLentil · 19/12/2024 08:09

Blue Vinny
Yarg
Cheshire
Lancashire
Westcombe Cheddar
Mmmm 😋

ClementinePancakes · 19/12/2024 08:09

I favour a soft blue, such as St Agur, DH prefers Stilton, so we will get both.
The man at the cheese counter well knows DD’s favourite goats cheese.
Then add Isigny Camembert, and Snowdonia smoked cheddar, Snowdonia red storm and whichever other cheese at the counter takes our fancy.

You can get Langres at M&S as well.

GasPanic · 19/12/2024 09:52

Where are the crackers. I am interested in hearing opinions on the best cracker as I might some better ones out this year.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/12/2024 09:54

I like the Peter's Yard sourdough crackers. Aldi does a beetroot one in a box on its own (which is also one of the options in the 'Finest' / 'Taste the Difference boxes you get, but obviously not as many).

I love the pineapple soft cheese ring with the nuts, whatever it’s called. But I accept that might be too fruity for you if you don’t like fruit in cheese (I don’t do Wensleydale with cranberry either!).

🤮
