Good Morning Everyone! What's everyone up to today?

lucysmam · 08/12/2024 09:04

I'm only just sitting down with my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, of course! The kittens have had breakfast & are both upstairs somewhere. It's quiet so I'm guessing they've gone back to sleep.

Our plan for today is much the same as yesterday's changed plans. Some festive baking, put the last few decorations up in the kitchen, homework for the girls, and a couple of work related bits for me. Someone needs to go to the shop too for various things 🙄 probably me although I'd rather potter round here & take it easy on my sore foot.

First though it's cuppa & Christmas Chronicles for me with girl kitten who's joined me 😊

Later on I'll make the second side to my thread crochet church...it might be done by Christmas 🤔

We're having roast chicken for tea, with roast spuds, veg, and yorkshires 😋 I might even defrost some of the cranberry sauce to go with it!

Tonight will be my usual self-care-Sunday scrubby everything shower followed by an hour with my book & an early night ready for work tomorrow 💤

What about all of you? 🎄

Morning @lucysmam!

I've been up for a while now so have come down and made myself comfy on the sofa with a coffee. We had friends over last night so DD and DH are still asleep. I'm loving sitting here in total silence! Doesn't seem to happen often in this house!

Very very windy and wet outside so we're having a total duvet day. Jacket potatoes and gammon for tea, and I'm hoping DH will make bacon sandwiches when he gets up!

Early nights all round tonight as we've had 2 very late nights in a row and DD will be a nightmare to get up for school in the morning.

Hoppinggreen · 08/12/2024 09:09

Taking DS shopping to get his Secret Santa gift for school, not looking forward to that as everywhere will be busy. We also need to get him an Xmas jumper as I can't find last years (school thing).
Tree is up but it was too windy to do outside lights so I will probably help DH with that, we will no doubt fall out as he gets arsey whenever he does DIY at my lack of ability to read his mind
A student DH mentors is coming over later so while thats going on I hope to finish my present shopping online and also I need to clean the floors due to DDogs muddy paws.
Hope to FT DD who is at Uni later too
I would love to go and see Gladiator tonight but nobody wants to come with me, might even go on my own, at least nobody will steal my popcorn!

Zippedydodah · 08/12/2024 09:11

Good morning @lucysmam , the dog and I are just back from a very blustery, cold walk. She’s asleep in her chair and I’m enjoying a coffee before I think about doing something else. There’s a pork joint in the slow cooker, it’s braising in cider and we’ll have it with mashed potatoes, green beans, broccoli and peas. Bread and butter pudding for dessert.
The wind seems to have swung round to the north, it’s a bitterly cold one but the sky’s clearing so perhaps we’ll get some sunshine today.
I will probably get on with finishing my crochet granny square today, it’s for the bed and I’m getting a bit bored with doing it!
hope you have a lovely day 🌻

Crunchymum · 08/12/2024 09:14

Weather is a lot better here today. Still wet but not as windy. We may venture out for a bike ride later when it's meant to be drier.

Have shopping arriving soon so then I'll get down to batch cooking (doing a beef stew and a spicy chicken one pot dish this week)

Kids have homework and chores.

We have lamb, minted new potatoes and green veg for dinner and we've already agreed on Penguins Of Madagascar as our movie tonight. I think my BIL is popping over at some point today as he's away for the festive period and won't see the kids.

Tree is now fully dressed, so she's twinkling away (she's a beauty!) which always cheers me up.

lucysmam · 08/12/2024 09:16

@Hoppinggreen depending on when jumper day is, you could try Vinted for a Christmas jumper? Save a few quid on new 😊

Thank you.
I keep thinking I should open a Vinted account as I have some stuff to sell as well but he needs the jumper for Thursday so i would worry about it arriving in time.

lucysmam · 08/12/2024 09:21

@Hoppinggreen aah yeah, it probably wouldn't. I bought mine yesterday on there for all of £1.50 (plus the shipping obvs) & spent a fiver. I don't need it for another week though & do have a back up if it doesn't arrive in time.

Good morning @lucysmam and all.

Having a cup of tea in bed before I face the day. 2 long lies this weekend which is unheard of. Been lovely. Everyone awake bar DD.

I have family over today so last minute cleaning to do and prepare lunch. Later we are all going on a Christmas trail which I’m excited for.

Tea is baked potato’s and gammon. Usual Sunday night chores when back to get ready for work and school.

I really need to take out all my gifts I’ve bought for Christmas and see what I have and what I still need to get!

Hoping to read my book before bed too.

frozendaisy · 08/12/2024 09:26

Good morning,
Just lying in bed wondering in the order to wake the masses because we are doing an early run into big town to get presents that they need to choose and it's the only day I am prepared to go in to do it!

Then roast pork roast, homework, revision, chill evening for week ahead.

God I don't want to go shopping it's going to be heaving but needs must.

Soccermumamir · 08/12/2024 09:27

Morning,

Got up about an hour ago and about to brew a 2nd coffee lol Watching Secret life of pets at the moment whilst OH and boys are still in bed. Both football matches have been cancelled due to the high winds.

Need to do a tidy up and put a couple of washes on ready for the new school/working week. 2 weeks to go and off for Christmas! Bring it on 😊

An afternoon of studying for me then cooking spaghetti bolognaise for tea - trying to stay away from dinners now till Xmas.

Then showers/baths all round. Catch up on strictly 🙂 Hope everyone has a good day

Topsy44 · 08/12/2024 09:27

Good morning Lucysmam and All

Just had a cup of tea and toast and now scrolling while watching an Elizabeth Taylor documentary. DD is in her room but I think will be down shortly.

For some reason I was absolutely wiped out yesterday so didn’t manage to get the Xmas tree up so DD and I will do that this morning, then I will call my Mum for a good chat and this afternoon will hopefully curl up on the sofa with either a good book or Xmas film. Online shop to come later and will probably crack open a Xmas treat or two.

Wishing you all good Sundays and hope the storm hasn’t caused too much havoc for those hardest hit.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 08/12/2024 09:35

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone!

@Hoppinggreen I think you should go see it! I love a little cinema solo date, feels like proper self care to me 🤩

I'm up with a hot chocolate on the sofa with my laptop whilst DS giggles his head off to some cartoons. I'm normally host/chief Christmas mischief manager for the wider family and we've just found out DM is unlikely to get out of hospital this side of Christmas, so am updating my plans to account for more useful stocking fillers/gifts (I don't think a 300+ piece Lego set is going to fit the bill anymore!)

The weather has calmed down here thank goodness, so I think we'll head out shopping for some Christmassy bits and lunch. I know it's going to be rammed but I do actually quite enjoy a packed shopping centre (pretty sure I'm the only one!)
There's a small arcade attached to a bowling alley there so I'll probably pop in there with DS as well - he's completely obsessed with some of the racing games!

Not sure what to do for dinner - might be overindulgent and pop into coop for a cheesy melty bake thing to have with baguette and veggies. I want to curl up with a Christmas movie - DS wants to watch the Christmas Cat in the Hat so I'm sure we'll do that this evening, and then I need to catch up with some work once he's asleep.

Have a great day everyone!

weegiemum · 08/12/2024 09:39

I had a bad nights sleep, I'm being changed over with my antidepressants and it's not good yet, give it another week!

Off to church in a bit, I'm on Sunday School today so we're working on a nativity set made out of boxes and toilet roll tubes. Today it's the shepherds, so shepherds people and sheep made out on egg boxes and Pom poms!

Dh will be watching the last F1 race of this season this afternoon then shopping and a nice chicken and bacon pie for tea after ds gets home from work.

I'll probably sleep this afternoon. So, so tired!

JMAngel1 · 08/12/2024 09:56

Morning everyone

Weather much calmer here. Sat in bed with my cappuccino reading Comfort and Joy. Got to get up in 10 minutes - laundry/kitchen to sort.

Then have to finish decorating conservatory tree - got too snuggly on the sofa last night watching All I want for Christmas - my girls favourite Xmas film.

Then going to marzipan and ice the Christmas cake. I’m still waiting for a few topper bits to be delivered.

Then we’re going to brave the weather and head into Manchester Xmas markets at request of DD2. Steering well clear of Albert Square though!!!

Then back home - hopefully won’t have to cook dinner as everyone will have had bits at market - that’s my plan anyway!

Have a good day everyone.

mamaduckbone · 08/12/2024 09:56

Good morning @lucysmam and all.
I've had a lazy morning so far - coffee in bed and a few pages of my book.

Dh and ds2 have just gone off to rugby - I've opted out to stay at home and start Christmassing the house - the tree is being delivered at some point today (car is in the garage so we couldn't get it home!) so that will be this afternoon's job. In the meantime I'll get the rest of the decs out.
I need to pop over to mum's at some point after lunch, and that's about it.
Roast chicken for dinner, a bit of school prep this evening and an episode of Gavin and Stacey - we're rewatching the whole lot ahead of the Christmas Day special.

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 08/12/2024 10:03

Just about to check out of our hotel after a festive meal with friends last night. DH promised if we had a long lie and skipped breakfast he would drive home via my favourite vegan bakery for pastries.

I am meeting a friend for a wreath workshop at 3pm but nothing much planned until then as won’t get home until noon. DH planning a walk then he will prep dinner.

Early night!

Fridgetapas · 08/12/2024 10:14

Morning everyone!

Kids didn’t get up until 7:30 which is a lie in for us! DH has always been an early riser so he got up to have a coffee and play a very rare bit of PlayStation in peace 😂 I stayed in bed with the baby.
Slow cooker beef on which we are having with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and veg tonight. Can’t wait!
We've been working our way through our list of jobs this morning and the baby’s room is all cleared out and looking good again. Hoping the wind isn’t too bad this afternoon so DS can finally get out on his scooter. He got it for his birthday three weeks ago and the weather has been horrendous every weekend since so it’s still in the box!

Peridot1 · 08/12/2024 10:19

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

Still very blowy here so not planning on venturing out anywhere.

Have had a few cups of tea and just had some bread and honey so I can take my antibiotics for my tooth infection. Face still feels quite sore.

Going to hopefully finish doing the Christmas decorations today. I’m not feeling it this year. I have way too much and can’t seem to get the overall effect I want. And we have switched trees so the big pre-lit tree is in the living room and the skinny crappy one is in the kitchen/dining/sitting area where I spend most of my time and I think it’s going to annoy me all Christmas. But don’t want to spend a fortune on a new tree until after Christmas as I know they will all be reduced. Anyway definitely first world problems!

The skinny tree is up and I’ll help DH to the lights this morning and then get that decorated. I’m then going to go through all the other decorations and be ruthless and pack some up for the charity shop.

I also want to read today as I’ve gotten out of the habit and am now three books behind in my Good Reads challenge for this year.

Decafflatteplease · 08/12/2024 10:24

Morning @lucysmam and all!

DH was up early as it was my turn for a lie in and he's tried to repair the fence that's been damaged in the storm.

This morning is homework, putting uniform away etc. this afternoon we are decorating the tree, we got it yesterday and it's settled overnight so can be decorated today.

Burgers for dinner (pork as we don't eat beef) wedges and corn on the cob.

Think I'll get a bath this evening and an early night

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 08/12/2024 10:25

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I had a long lie because I was out last night and didn't sleep well. I have lots I could be doing, but no motivation to do any of it. I will need to go to Aldi for food soon. This afternoon, I'll visit mum. In between I'll probably make lentil soup in the slow cooker and maybe a fish pie for dinner. Christmas cards need written and I have more gifts to buy but I think I'll embrace my inner sloth. Have a good day all

lucysmam · 08/12/2024 10:27

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand you've reminded me I need to write a couple of cards - maybe I'll do them today too 🤔 Or maybe I'll schedule them into a quiet afternoon after work...we'll see!

Morning @lucysmam and everyone else.

I've already been to dds first netball match. It was an 8 o'clock meet about half an hours drive away. I never sleep well when I know I'm up early as I'm scared the alarm won't go off 😆 combined with power cuts through the night setting off everyone alarms I feel like my eyes are in backwards!

Dh is at football with youngest then we are both going to watch dds county netball match this afternoon.

I'm sat under a dog with a cup of tea trying to find the energy to go and swap the washing.
Need to have a bit of a tidy/ clean later as it's looks like storm darragh has ripped through our house as well as outside!

Dirtydancing1 · 08/12/2024 11:08

Morning all
Had my two coffees, need to do some washing and clean the hamster out.
It's still really windy here it's meant to slow down a bit later.
I need to go out to post some items I sold on Vinted.
We have a pork joint today so will do that with roast potatoes and veg.
We are having it this afternoon as DH wants to watch the football later.
I need to sort the Christmas tree out as it looks like the kitten has had a fight with it.
Later I might do some online Christmas shopping.
I have one chapter left on my book so hopefully I can get to finish that later
Both DC have said they fancy watching a film later so will decide what to watch.
Then a nice bath and hair wash and sort the work and school stuff ready for the week

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 08/12/2024 11:26

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone.
I'm in hospital for surgery next week, so am doing all deep cleaning of the house, bedding is in the dryer now. Deep cleaned the whole of downstairs yesterday so am deep cleaning all upstairs today, all bedrooms, bathrooms, landing and stairs.
Was out for a walk this morning with the 2 Ddogs. Cold & windy not too bad now.
Just having a cup of coffee & toasted teacake before I start household jobs again.
Shopping has arrived, fridge/freezer was cleaned yesterday so it's all put away now.
Some thing with pasta for tea later and another walk with Ddogs.
Will relax this evening in front of the fire.
Have a lovely day everyone x

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/12/2024 11:30

Had my cup of tea. Going to get dressed soon and go and retrieve my garden table from the garden and assess the rest of the damage. Gammon is in the slow cooker ready for later. The sun is shining but still a bit blusty here.
