All facilities closed at Center Parcs - anyone had this?

Currently at Center Parcs Longleat Forest on a Fri-Mon break. We've been told to stay in our lodges due to the storm and all the facilities are shut.

Obviously we are very gutted as this wasn't a cheap break, we hadn't booked any outdoor activities because we didn't want to gamble on the weather but we mainly wanted to use the pool and cycle around which we now can't. Having checked the t&Cs I can see they don't offer refunds unless the village itself is shut which technically it isn't, but if everything in it is shut would that qualify?

Currently just sat in our lodge bored and disappointed !!

Has anyone experienced anything like this with Cp Before?

Oh my word! Awful! But I'm guessing you cant do much about it today, maybe tomorrow will be better

WilfredsPies · 07/12/2024 20:34

I’m pretty sure that they were offering refunds if you wanted to go home. I think their contact centre is shut tomorrow but you should be able to speak to someone at guest services who will be able to confirm.

We’ve just come back from Elveden so we’re lucky to have missed it, but the FB page is full of people outraged that anything has been cancelled because it’s ‘only a bit of wind’, completely missing the point that you have to walk through a forest to get to the things that have been cancelled.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 07/12/2024 20:39

They are playing it safe... any chance there are some cards or bord games in your lodge?
I'd use it to have some old fashioned family fun!

Currently at Center Parcs in Woburn. All outdoor activities were cancelled today and have now also been cancelled for tomorrow. Gutted as it’s a special trip for a number of occasions and instead we spent all day in the Sports Plaza… At least we saw Santa around a couple of times.

Fortunately we haven’t been told to stay indoors but I guess Longleat is a lot bigger and more hilly and much closer to the worse parts of the storms.

I tried to Google whether we get any sort of refund or credit but everything I saw online suggests not.

LuckysDadsHat · 07/12/2024 20:52

Longleat have said a full refund will be given so don't worry about that.

Nothing similar at Woburn. Although I guess we are allowed to go outside!

Yes, longleat have said no one is allowed out of the lodges other than to pack the car and leave the site. They were in the red zone though.

LuckysDadsHat · 07/12/2024 21:05

This is what Longleat sent out.

Longleat refunding.

Woburn I would bet will do something. They will deal with park by park.

We have had some pretty turbulent times at various parks due to weather and they have always compensated.

The pool seems to be open? Although a sick bug circulating I hear.

It's a hard one sometimes. A but like the we went abroad and it rained scenario. They certainly won't charge you for anything cancelled and are likely to offer a discount or refund for anything missed.

BourbonsAreOverated · 07/12/2024 21:08

Longleat safari looks like it’s really suffered I hope everyone and all the animals are ok

motheronthedancefloor · 07/12/2024 21:29

cheaper to go abroad. YABU to go to center parcs.

gingersnappz · 07/12/2024 21:33

The storm damage around the Longleat area has been awful - lodges have had trees fall on them, the lights at Longleat have all been damaged and lots of the staff of CP have been told not to go in.

We've had lots of roads blocked, half of the main town is shut as the businesses have no power and the roof of a local train station has blown off.

If I was you, I'd head home, take the refund and come back when you can make the most of the facilities.

Are you on the sauce?
This isnt AIBU and the OP wasn't asking for future holiday advice.

I'd imagine that cheapness isn't everyone's main requirement in a holiday, how in earth could anyone be unreasonable to go on whatever holiday they want to?

So many things cancelled today, it's a shame all round so hopefully you will get some kind of refund

Topsyturvy78 · 07/12/2024 21:38

Well we were told not to travel unless nessasary. Which would mean staff wouldn't be able to travel to run the on site facilities. It's one day things will be back to normal tomorrow.

VegTrug · 07/12/2024 21:41

Were you expecting Center Parcs to be able to control the weather?

No.

GreyBlackBay · 07/12/2024 21:45

We were snowed in whinfel a few years back and everything was cancelled because they couldn't get the staff in. We also couldn't get out so had to stay a day longer than booked. They were great, made sure everyone had food and we did get some sort of refund or discount for next time.

We are off to Woburn on Monday. Where/what did you hear about a sick bug. Xmas Sad

Were you expecting Center Parcs to be able to control the weather?

No, but legally they have to supply advertised facilities. They’ll have insurance to mitigate their loss.

Feelingstrange2 · 07/12/2024 21:57

This is the very reason most mumsnet CP threads recommend packing lube!

I thought that was only for Friday nights? Saturday for the OXO tower.

Thanks for your advice. So for our next holiday I’ll take my disabled child abroad and let them enjoy the anxiety and meltdowns due to travelling, different weather, different food etc. Instead of going to Center Parcs which is local and familiar and somewhere he can enjoy 🙄
