All facilities closed at Center Parcs - anyone had this?

PuddingOwl · 07/12/2024 11:20

Currently at Center Parcs Longleat Forest on a Fri-Mon break. We've been told to stay in our lodges due to the storm and all the facilities are shut.

Obviously we are very gutted as this wasn't a cheap break, we hadn't booked any outdoor activities because we didn't want to gamble on the weather but we mainly wanted to use the pool and cycle around which we now can't. Having checked the t&Cs I can see they don't offer refunds unless the village itself is shut which technically it isn't, but if everything in it is shut would that qualify?

Currently just sat in our lodge bored and disappointed !!

Has anyone experienced anything like this with Cp Before?

They are playing it safe... any chance there are some cards or bord games in your lodge?
I'd use it to have some old fashioned family fun!

Bit of am expensive family fun. The prices are extortionate never mind no facilities. I'd be furious.

This is what Longleat sent out.

@PuddingOwl - haven’t you received this?

Well nobody can predict the precise weather a few months in advance.
As for the price, people pay it so to them it must be worth it.

And I think it's been established since my first post that they are refunding.

I hope everyone can stay inside, and stay safe. I'm in my house in Northumberland and the wind gusts and torrential rain are scary. I've looked it up and the wind speed is 28 mph, but the gusts are 64 mph. I do feel for the horses left out in this weather, the wind terrifies them.

I think I would’ve been concerned staying there, with the trees possibly falling on the lodges.

The storm damage around the Longleat area has been awful - lodges have had trees fall on them, the lights at Longleat have all been damaged and lots of the staff of CP have been told not to go in.

We've had lots of roads blocked, half of the main town is shut as the businesses have no power and the roof of a local train station has blown off.

If I was you, I'd head home, take the refund and come back when you can make the most of the facilities.

Chippenham train station also has had the roof either blown off or damaged, so my friend said. More trees have blown over this afternoon locally, it's carnage in some places and Longleat FOREST has a lot of bloody big trees!

Who with?

Furious? At the wind? 🤨

And it’s not extortionate at all. I mean, stay in a treehouse, eat out for breakfast, lunch and dinner and do dozens of activities each day then, yes, fair enough, it can be. But we’ve just had a week for six of us for less than £100 pp, including meals.

cheaper to go abroad. YABU to go to center parcs.

You’re wrong. On both counts.

Roryno · 07/12/2024 23:27

That’s very good of them. It’s not their fault. I’ve been on skiing holidays as a kid where we couldn’t ski due to storms, and the hotel had no power for two days. Couldn’t be helped.

everychildmatters · 07/12/2024 23:35

Those of you at CP with school-age kids...have you broken up already? Just seems really early!

Obviously people take their kids out of school to go. It's pretty much booked out all year round. It's not just pre and post school aged kids thar attend during term time.

OP that's really annoying. Hope you were stocked up on the wine and treats

Longleat refunding.

Woburn I would bet will do something. They will deal with park by park.

We have had some pretty turbulent times at various parks due to weather and they have always compensated.

The pool seems to be open? Although a sick bug circulating I hear.

It's a hard one sometimes. A but like the we went abroad and it rained scenario. They certainly won't charge you for anything cancelled and are likely to offer a discount or refund for anything missed.

Fingers crossed they do something similar at Woburn. Appreciate it’s not their fault but it’s still frustrating as most people travel to Center Parcs for their outdoor facilities and at this time of year, their Winter Wonderland, only to miss it all.

Maboscelar · 08/12/2024 00:03

Ah OP I feel for you. We went to a Spanish eurocamp in October - right where all the rain and flooding was! We couldn't do anything, it was awful, the worst holidays we've ever had. We didn't even think about asking for a refund though because what can be done? Weather is an act of god basically. You might have to go home early or do what you can to make the best of it.

Sounds like you’ve paid a lot less than we did for a 2 bedroom lodge! It does depend on when you visit and also how far in advance you book.

HiEarthlings · 08/12/2024 00:04

theeyeofdoe · 07/12/2024 21:54

No, but legally they have to supply advertised facilities. They’ll have insurance to mitigate their loss.

An act of nature will always trump the "legally have to..." requirement. They aren't "legally required to provide the service paid for" if that said "service" is impacted by an act of nature. I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't something in the small print that states they're aren't liable in such a situation. Many insurance companies won't pay out for damages incurred by an act of nature.

LuckysDadsHat · 07/12/2024 21:04

Yes, longleat have said no one is allowed out of the lodges other than to pack the car and leave the site. They were in the red zone though.

Where do you think Longleat is? It's certainly not in the Red Zone.

Were you expecting Center Parcs to be able to control the weather?

Yeah cos it’s all in a big magic dome.

We tend to go around the first week of December (no school aged DC), book at least a year in advance using their repeat guest offer and keep an eye out for price drops because you can claim back the difference if you’ve booked using their repeat guest offer. We take some shopping with us and nip into Sainsbury’s before we check in. You do have to be organised about it, but it makes a huge difference. We definitely couldn’t afford to go outside of term time.

Bellie710 · 08/12/2024 00:57

We were at Centre Parcs Windfell a few years ago when there was a crazy snow storm, all outside activities were shutdown and restaurants were closed as staff couldn't get into the parc, we never got any refunds but as a group we just had a great time in the lodge.

PuddingOwl · 08/12/2024 08:21

Thank you everyone for the comments. Center Parcs confirmed yesterday via the lodge TVs that full refunds will be issued so that's good news.

Yesterday we stayed as I was worried about the journey home but we are going to head back today. We did have Longleat tickets for tomorrow but the damage there looks pretty bad. Just hope everyone and the animals are OK!

@MoonlightMedicine lots talking about it on Woburn cp group Facebook.

I think it's fairly common with the pool and people paying so much so ignoring rules.

No one thinks anyone is in control of the weather? I think you're missing the point of the thread

Jewell25 · 08/12/2024 10:30

My sister’s at Woburn and they’ve all come down with a vomiting bug. Not the lovely holiday they hoped for. Apparently it’s rife there at the moment.
