I have a Christmas "shopping list". On the list is "something geeky/a gadget".

TikTok has presented me with loads of "Amazon finds" over the months but now I need inspo, I can't find anything!

Something for about £10/£15.

What geek gadget have you got that's actually really good?! 🙏🏼

This

an egg cuber, not exactly essential (I avoided the puns!) but it is genius.
also if you want to be really mean let him try and guess its purpose. Had 3 engineers completely stumped in this house.

I mean... I think I'm lost for words 😂
Who even thought there was a need for this product?!

A cheese grater or potato peeler. Not entirely joking.

Most used ‘gadget’ in this house is a Swiss Army knife. Screwdriver, bottle opener, pen, tweezers, scissors, torch, saw, hook…the list goes on. Slightly dearer than you noted but the Swiss card could be a good starter https://www.swisstool.co.uk/st/swisscards/

Check out kikkerland or suck uk. Lots of choice!

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 05/12/2024 07:46

In that price range I'd go for Lightsabre chopsticks. (LED chopsticks)

They have loads on Amazon.

Even people who don't like Star Wars seem to like them.

Clarefromwork · 05/12/2024 07:47

Not really geeky/ gadgety but those hats with the rechargeable lights are good. Can get them for around £8 too from other sellers

@Chasingsquirrels I think the pineapple corer is winning 🥇

I just followed the link and it says the product has been discontinued

Lurkingandlearning · 05/12/2024 08:54

I’m hoping Santa will bring me an airfix model kit of the Golden Hind. Not a gadget but very geeky and nostalgic. Does he like models?

igiveuptrying · 05/12/2024 09:55

If he likes gardening a hori hori knife.

geeky - lightsaber chopsticks

The ultimate geeky present that I can think of is the 11x11 Rubik's cube - I used to go to a local Geek Night on a regular basis and somebody once came in and was playing with one while sitting on a table by himself - he'd brought it as something to do as he didn't really know many people there and thought it would mean he had something to do instead of sitting there on his own and feeling sad. It was amazing - there was a constant stream of people who came over as soon as they saw him and it - everybody wanted a go, and everybody who was there was talking about it if they weren't waiting to have a go!

I've just had a look on amazon and it seems they can get pretty expensive but this sort of thing is about £15 and is a 7 x 7 rubiks cube.

Oh I never use it for nuts @WatermelonSugarLow! It's always used to open bottles - so many times I have to ask DH to open them as I just don't have the hand strength. And who wants to be beholden to a man when all you want is a glass of the fizzy stuff?!

You hold the cork and twist the bottle. I usually put a tea towel over the cork so it doesn't hit the ceiling but I've never not been able to open a bottle of fizz this way.

I remember Christmas drinks at a friend's house many years ago when DH took out the Swiss card he'd received that morning. Suddenly he was surrounded by men of all ages wanting a look, they seemed very impressed!
