I've had some hideous bug.As a v fit healthy person I don't think I've ever had flu.
I tested and it was negative for COVID which I've had twice.
My colleague got the sore throat which I didn't.
I've been shivering,night sweats achy,iffy tum.
Watering eyes and zero energy.A bit sniffly.

Me too I have been in bed for 4 days, shivers, sweats, fever, nausea, vomiting, sore throat, coughing. I have no energy at all. I am so exhausted, the most I have done is made it to the sofa today for a short period. I too tested negative for Covid.

It feels like the flu which I have had a few times before. I know it is beginning to rise nationally from the flu and Covid surveillance report.

Hope you feel better soon.

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 03/12/2024 18:53

Awful. It’s left me with glue ear. Had it checked in the end (I paid) and it’s full of gunk.
In agony no cure as it’s viral.

MidnightPatrol · 03/12/2024 18:53

I had a bug recently which lasted for ~2 weeks which included shooting pains, pain in my back and limbs, fever, chills, lost my voice, bad tummy for a bit / everything you can imagine really. Brain absolute mush for 2-3 days of it.

Seems quite widespread!

There’s a thread on general health. Started with unable to keep my eyes open. Then felt as though I was being attacked by an alien from the inside.
blinding headache
cold then fever then cold
everything hurt, even my eyeballs
sore throat
hacking cough
no appetite
couldn’t keep water down

On day 13

whatisforteamum · 03/12/2024 18:56

Choconuttolata · 03/12/2024 19:04

Yes the headache @VaddaABeetch. Day 13, you poor thing.

Dd1 had it first and then got a chest infection, she was off for a week from school. All the kids had it, they were off last week before I came down with it.

The lack of energy is depressing isn't it @whatisforteamum.

Tealeavesinthecup · 03/12/2024 19:10

I think I’ve got it now. Absolutely no energy, feel sick, headache, chilled , sore throat. I feel really weird . Also very depressed.

whatisforteamum · 03/12/2024 19:17

Yes to the depression.Almost tearful really.
Get well ASAP.

OP posts:
VaddaABeetch · 03/12/2024 19:19

Yep the depression, It’s awful.

hope you all get some good rest

Tealeavesinthecup · 03/12/2024 19:21

So sorry for everyone who has this, if it’s the same thing. I am reassured that I’m not the only one as it feels very isolating and a bit scary to be honest.

Choconuttolata · 03/12/2024 19:31

I am through the tearful depressed stage now, hugs, soft fleece blankets and ginger and honey tea for all still stuck there. It does pass.

WarriorN · 03/12/2024 19:33

I had flu last year, following radio therapy which I was told may have meant it was flu rather than the cold dh got.

The swings in temperature were mad, initially an extreme cold plunge that then went to an extremely high temp about an hour later. High swinging temps went on for about a week. racing heart at times too. It went on to my chest and played merry hell with asthma. Needed antibiotics and steroids a week or so later.

I ached and hurt all over for several days too.

Took a while to recover. Don't race back to normality Flowers

whenemmafallsinlove · 03/12/2024 19:37

It's flu. There's a lot of it about. Anecdotally if you've had a flu jab it seems less virulent but I and all my nhs vaccinated colleagues have been felled by the really bad 'cold' we've had. Rest as much as you can

PandaChopChop · 03/12/2024 19:39

Me and the DC had the flu in June. Completed wiped the three of us out for two weeks. DD passed out a couple of times and vomited after an ill-advised walk (about 5 minutes!).

eta: all three of us with ridiculous fevers, horrible headaches, coughing. No energy and couldn't eat or sleep properly.

I then got a chest infection so another two weeks of antibiotics and no work. Horrendous!

notacooldad · 03/12/2024 19:39

Horrendous headache and couldn't move it without pain.
Slept throughout throughout the day for three days.
Freezing cold then boiling hot.
Throat swollen.
Cough so much back and ribs hurt.
I'm on the last bit of it now and it's just lots of phlegm coming off my chest. It's lasted 10 days.

ShowOfHands · 03/12/2024 19:39

No way of knowing if you have flu as symptoms range from non-existent, through mild sniffles and all the way up to death inducing illness.

I've been tested for flu twice. First time was during an outbreak. I had mild cold symptoms. I also took part in a study while I was at university and tested positive. I was asymptomatic but friends and housemates clearly had flu symptoms.

You may have had flu before op. You have no way of knowing.

I hope you feel better soon.

The flu I had (it was Feb, but I suppose a different season) ignored my flu jab. But that might have been the radio 🤷🏻‍♀️

PickAChew · 03/12/2024 19:41

DH is just getting over it (used a lateral flow test that you can get for influenza A and B) and has had an awful cough just like DS2 who he seems to have caught it off and has been really tired. DS2 also had a fever at one point. It seems to have gone on forever.

hagchic · 03/12/2024 19:43

@ShowOfHands has it.

I thought we had learnt this lesson with Covid - one particular virus that went from totally asymptomatic all the way up to unable to move air in ICU

You could give us all a particular flu virus and we would all report different experiences.

So you cannot say 'this is flu' and 'this is not flu'

whatisforteamum · 03/12/2024 19:48

Showofhands thanks for that.Actually I think I had it once before Xmas 7 yrs ago.
Hugs to everyone who is struggling.

Shivers/zero energy & no appetite (very unlike me) still blowing crap from nose, coughing up phlegm, it’s awful 😣
Tested for Covid = negative.

Showing no signs of easing up. Just feeling generally crap!
