Christmas nonsense that can get in the sea

YimYum · 02/12/2024 14:30

Matching family pyjamas
Matching family jumpers
Photoshoots involving the above
The Elf
Christmas Eve boxes
Hot chocolate stations
Light trails

This is all just absolute nonsense that people are being sucked into by advertising and social media #makingmemories scams.

There, you're welcome. From a Grinch.

Thanks for the info OP 😁

PumpkinPurple · 02/12/2024 14:32

I'll add to your list Christmas cards handed out to everyone in the office that you see every day.

MorrisZapp · 02/12/2024 14:35

Let's get meta on this. I'm sick of the annual Elf and Christmas Eve Box moaning. It's the new hubster and hollibobs. Yes, yes, we know. So crass.

I don't do any of it and without these blimmin lists it would pass me by entirely 😊

My non meta moan is cranberry anything. Fuck off putting jam on savoury foods and ruining Christmas sandwiches.

All of the above (except light trails. I do like a light trail)
Also:

  • Being obsessed with believing in Father Christmas and that the "magic" is ruined if they don't
  • "Magic"
  • Twas the Night Before Christmas. Shite poem that doesn't even scan properly.
  • Everything being from Father Christmas
  • Colour coordinating decorations
SharpOpalNewt · 02/12/2024 14:38

I have actually just bought DH and DDs pjs this year which are slightly festive. They are not matching though and I'll not be setting up a family photo session.

MagicalMystical · 02/12/2024 14:39

What are hot chocolate stations? I’ve just tried to Google it but it’s showing me tik toks and I’m not on tik tok. I’ve tried watching a video but it was just someone setting up a little area with the wherewithal to make hot choc….?

Needmorelego · 02/12/2024 14:41

None of it is compulsory.
I am also curious what a hot chocolate station is 🤔

LigamentBandy · 02/12/2024 14:44

There's already enough micro plastics in the seas ... Don't need added matching pjs & elves being chucked in :)
Christmas is what you make it, don't like something? don't do it. Just because you see it on other ppls "socials " doesn't mean you need to do it or are going to be missing out by not participating!

LittleRedRidingHoody · 02/12/2024 14:44

Absolute blasphemy!

Signed, a sucker for anything with a Santa hat on it a mother who will be taking her Christmas jumper decked DS to a light show, with hot chocolate station hot chocolate in a elf-shaped flask 😂

MissyB1 · 02/12/2024 14:45

Those cheesy naff Christmas films like elf or home alone or nativity. Yuck boring! Give me a thriller/ghost story, preferably set in snowy winter. I'll watch it with just the Christmas tree lights on, and a large glass of good wine.

Yes, that's exactly what it is!

I didn't realise that we had a "tea and coffee station" in our kitchen. I thought we just had a kettle and a pod thingy on the worktop with all the necessaries within easy reach.

LittleMissFuckUp · 02/12/2024 14:47

@DappledThings I'm with you on the magic being lost. It seems to be something I've noticed over that last year or two and it makes zero sense and irrationally winds me up seeing people ask how to convince 9/10/11 year olds to believe in a trespassing old man.

I will say that I did buy me and the kids matching Christmas jumpers though, mainly because I know the 4 year old will love matching and the 9 year old will hate it 😅 (and they were massively discounted in the sale)

What will American Tik Tokers think of next? 😅

Hi guyssssss…just wannid to share my cute hat chaclit station

Fuck. Off.

Mine will be this - the elf (hides behind a tree to avoid things being thrown at me) brings different hot chocolate powders/mini marshmallows/can of whipped cream/candy canes/little gingerbread houses that sit on top of your mug sometime before Christmas, and makes it look all cute and aesthetically pleasing for copious mugs of the stuff over the holidays 😍

Yes it's completely OTT. I am aware of this. Yes I shouldn't have done it the first year, and now am roped in until DS discovers the 'truth' ~ but it's a tasty mistake to make 😂

Oooh yes cranberries! Especially in virtually everything vegetarian. Veggie dd hates anything like that which makes it so easy to find her a Christmas main. Or a sandwich in Costa.

okayhescereal · 02/12/2024 14:54

Can we add people reading/seeing things on the internet, not wanting to do them, oddly seeming to have super strong opinions about doing/not doing them and then starting threads saying they should be banned? I'd throw that right in the sea 😂

If you like it, do it, if you don't like it, don't do it? Avoiding FB/insta/tik too is great for hardly even having this stuff on your radar fyi

tobee · 02/12/2024 14:54

This is a bit of old one but the pretence that it will be snowy/frosty/cold at Christmas!

No we all know it will be rainy/windy/warm. Probably torrents of rain. ☔️ 🌧️

heartheart89 · 02/12/2024 14:54

Bah humbug 😉

Stickinthemuddle · 02/12/2024 14:55

We have an elf due to social pressure/having one at dad’s house but as I’m doing it begrudgingly ours is really mean.

Today it hid the TV remote so they had no screen time before school and tomorrow it’ll replace their advent choc with fruit or maybe take all the stupid keyrings off their school bags. Last year it nicked the WiFi router cable and hid set their alarms early.

They for some reason find this all hilarious despite arguing with me about this stuff usually 🤷‍♀️

PTSDBarbiegirl · 02/12/2024 14:56

Any and ALL ‘look at me’ social media postings. The Elf, little bastard can be sent to the bowels of the earth. Gloaty self congratulating photo montages of how lucky everyone is. Flashing optic FUCKFEST across the road from me that goes on for 8 weeks triggering migraine and having me take extra meds to avoid epileptic symptoms. A whole house and garden covered in flashing lights. Just fuck off.

tobee · 02/12/2024 14:56

I love cranberry/apple/mint/redcurrant etc in my sandwiches or on my roast etc. But hot chocolate can fuck off.

yeah just cut yourself off from society and all your friends and family and go off grid for Christmas, that should do it.

Ugh yeah actually- had a sarnie yesterday labelled as ‘festive’ with surprise cranberries in. Yeuch

zoemum2006 · 02/12/2024 14:58

I like Christmas Eve boxes. My girls (now aged 14 & 18) have always got a book and game to use the night before Xmas. We still have all of the books dating back to when they were toddlers.

I would buy them anyway... they just get these gifts before Christmas otherwise they might not read them/ play with them in the madness of the Big Day.

Do like a light trail too.....

congratulations on becoming a storage unit, there's nothing better than clothes that are used a few days per year and are then finally chucked when you realise they're too small the next year.
