I adore mine. We were hunting for a new mattress, and I bought a topper as an interim - 2 years ago!

I like them. I've had a duvet type one for a few years now. My mattress is comfortable, but I find it makes my bed feel more cosy.
DD was complaining that her new bed's a bit uncomfortable. So i bought her a nice thick one, rather than a whole new mattress, and she loves it. It's definitely made a big difference.

Scamilton · 01/12/2024 21:37

Some are wafer thing some are thicker. Best just save the money for a new mattress.

Memory foam mattress topper was a god send when the springs started to go in my old mattress. It was thick so couldn't feel the broken mattress at all.

AlteredStater · 01/12/2024 21:40

Recently bought a new mattress that is just too hard for me! Can't return it so bought a thick mattress topper (duvet-like filling, not a memory foam one) and it has helped. I have also folded a single duvet cover as well to lie on so now it feels like I'm floating on a cloud! But it is a bit too hot at times.

Also wondering if they’re any good and if they can they be used with an electric blanket?

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 01/12/2024 21:41

I’ve got a Panda memory foam one. It’s amazingly good. I did have one of the thick duvet ones before that but this is better.

Memory foam topper. Don't bother with a branded one - memory foam is memory foam whatever the label.

Despite trying it out beforehand, my mattress was too hard. A memory foam topper changed everything.

I thought some can make you sweat? And to hot

I have a memory foam and two duck/down feather ones.

My bed is like a cloud. I adore it!

Challenge2024 · 01/12/2024 22:17

I have a thick superking duvet. I was going to throw it out because its to heavy. I'm wondering if I could fold it in half and use that as a topper on ds mattress.

Watching the adverts on the TV they are so good you don't need any bedding at all with them, just sleep on the topper and no quilt needed, just think no more fighting to put the duvet in the cover ever again.😀

🤣 and they are so snuggled even without Bedfont and sleeping on a cloud

I bought one mainly to raise the height as the mattress that came with the bed was too small.
I found it incredibly hot and sweaty (post menopause)
Now I use it underneath the mattress and am happy 😴

WhoStoleYourHighHorse · 01/12/2024 22:27

I’m a huge fan of mine. I have a bursitis in my hip which makes sleeping on one side very uncomfortable. I have a super firm mattress which gives me good support and then a topper which makes it softer while still supportive.

TyneTeas · 01/12/2024 22:28

We got one a few years ago, couldn't believe the difference it made, was amazing!

(Foggarty memory foam I think)

JBJ · 01/12/2024 22:42

I've got a Silentnight airflow one and it's brilliant.

Vienettagoldust · 01/12/2024 23:03

my Emma mattress topper was excellent- made the hard bed comfortable and no sweating

That is exactly why I've been using mattress toppers for years, and they work. I refuse to pay a fortune for a new mattress which just might be more uncomfortable than the one I currently have (which is old).

I wouldn't use a foam one however, they make you very hot.

I used a memory foam one before I bought a new memory foam mattress. I loved it and didn’t find it too hot at all.

pitterypattery00 · 02/12/2024 01:24

I got a Panda one a few months ago and it's great. Our mattress is good quality and only a couple of years old but it's too firm for me. The topper makes it much more comfortable, and I don't find it makes me hotter. (Panda do a money back guarantee if you don't like it).

But if your mattress is old/poor quality/unsupportive then I think it's better to invest in a new mattress rather than a topper.

I have a memory foam myself . But in the past when I have bought a cheaper one . It's made me very hot. So I think maybe it does matter what type/make

We bought a down feather one from marks and Spencer’s. I hated it, like sleeping on a hot squashy duvet. Boiling.

i put it on eBay within a fortnight

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/12/2024 23:10

I recently treated myself to one, a Silentnight from John Lewis. It’s made a big difference. I forget what it’s made of, but it’s certainly not too hot. Personally I wouldn’t touch memory foam with a barge pole - dd and SiL had a MF mattress and had to ditch it - far too hot.

Copperoliverbear · 10/12/2024 23:24

I have a white company one, I love it.
