YouTuber wearing low cut tops to get views

My partner set up a YouTube channel 18 months ago. Gaining subscribers has been slow as he has been on and off from work so not been able to film or upload videos. A woman has recently started a channel 5 weeks ago and has already surpassed the amount of subscribers he has and she is monetised.

My partner is really disheartened she has overtook him as she purposely wears low cut tops to get viewers. Her content isn’t even that great and that is not me just siding with my partner. I even saw one guy in the circle of content creators posting inappropriate comments to her and he is married. Lots of men are fawning over her because she is one of the only female content creators on this topic, loads of men do videos on it.

How can you create growth on your channel while doing it properly? It just shocks me how society says women should be respected yet men are still acting inappropriate and this woman is using her body.

Well, you said he hasn't had time to film or upload videos, so doing so would almost certainly help, rather than wasting energy moaning about other wannabe YouTubers.

CharlotteRumpling · 29/11/2024 13:11

I mean, it was ever thus.

He isn't uploading, but it's somehow her fault because she has boobs?

Spending more time doing good videos and not eyeballing other content creators and moaning about them might help. The biggest male YouTubers aren't trading off their breasts.

CrispyCrumpets · 29/11/2024 13:12

Well let's assume that for one moment you are completely correct and this woman's content is not very good and the appeal of her channel is simply her cleavage, then she has a different target market to your husband and he shouldn't be comparing himself to her. He has a different product.

There will always be some woman with her boobs out getting more hits than him somewhere on the net.

He should be concentrating on what the people interested in his topic are wanting see or hear about it. Maybe he can find a way to make himself more engaging somehow.

secretbumworms · 29/11/2024 13:13

Why are you comparing you channel to hers? If you post consistently and it's decent content then at some point it will find its own audience.

Delorian · 29/11/2024 13:13

Has he tried a low cut top???

This.

He needs to stop whining and get uploading if he wants to be successful.

doodleschnoodle · 29/11/2024 13:14

He needs to worry less about what other people are doing. Her viewers are not his viewers. There's quite likely little overlap between them. He needs to make content for the people who are his core viewer base.

And stop being bitter about it the pair of you.

doodleschnoodle · 29/11/2024 13:15

Also if he's sporadically uploading content with long gaps etc then he'll lose viewers. She's new and creating regular content that's appealing to her viewers. If he's not creating new content, then people don't engage.

HPandthelastwish · 29/11/2024 13:15

Well there's a guy that does. Lumberjack videos and he seems very popular - he doesn't even take his shirt off.

If you have something to see people will buy it and they want the whole package.

CleanShirt · 29/11/2024 13:16

I really wish this was the extent of my problems.

If he's the guy I'm thinking of he certainly takes his belt off with a certain panache! 😳

This is the problem, not others being in short tops or what not, there's plenty of huge channels that are faceless.

I know, it is nothing really. I tell him to ignore her but he can’t seem to let it go.

This is common - not just YouTube, but also Instagram and others.

It's not just boobs, but yes she'll get some traction from that. It's that women won't necessarily watch your partner (I follow 0 male YouTubers), but women AND men will watch her.

It also vastly depends on content. There are far too many male YouTubers talking bloody nonsense and sounding boring AF, and then complaining they don't get any views. Ultimately if his videos don't bring value or fun to peoples lives, he won't get watched.

coffeesaveslives · 29/11/2024 13:22

If you want to maintain a good following on social media you need to upload regularly - not necessarily everyday but several times a week, otherwise the algorithm will stop promoting your stuff and your followers just won't see your content unless they actively search it out.

As an aside I follow loads of people on TikTok who never take their clothes off or wear low cut tops 🤷‍♀️

DatingDinosaur · 29/11/2024 13:25

If that's how the boobtuber wants to earn her kibbles that's up to her.

If your partner was parading around in budgie smugglers and was doing as well as she is, would you be complaining?

CrispyCrumpets · 29/11/2024 13:26

Boobtuber 😄

That's on him then, he could be learning to get better, instead of obsessing over her channel and actually putting out videos. also if she did it in 5 weeks, its not just her low top that got her over the monetisation that's some serious hustling for a fresh channel not a second one etc and will have been promoting, marketing to push people towards her channel.

I know you have a point. Sometimes he is moaning in his videos and these are the ones that he is in and they get less views. Whereas the ones where is does not have a moaning agenda and does voice overs he gets more views.

People want positive videos.

OP posts:
CheeseNPickle3 · 29/11/2024 13:35

so the solution would seem to be to make positive videos and be regular and consistent in uploading.

HappyMaltesers · 29/11/2024 13:36

Success on YouTube is based massively on the regularity that new content is posted, and on absolutely shameless self promotion (i dont mean that in a bad way, its just a hugely competitive environment!).

He needs to be posting new videos a couple of times a week and making shorts too, linking to his videos from other platforms etc... to do well on YouTube is basically a full time job.
It's fine to just enjoy making good quality videos with interesting content though, if he's enjoying it that's the main thing!!

CleanShirt · 29/11/2024 13:37

Is he 12?

ICarriedTheWatermelon · 29/11/2024 13:38

There is room for more than one YouTuber. He can’t blame her boobs for his viewing figures!
