YouTuber wearing low cut tops to get views

My partner set up a YouTube channel 18 months ago. Gaining subscribers has been slow as he has been on and off from work so not been able to film or upload videos. A woman has recently started a channel 5 weeks ago and has already surpassed the amount of subscribers he has and she is monetised.

My partner is really disheartened she has overtook him as she purposely wears low cut tops to get viewers. Her content isn’t even that great and that is not me just siding with my partner. I even saw one guy in the circle of content creators posting inappropriate comments to her and he is married. Lots of men are fawning over her because she is one of the only female content creators on this topic, loads of men do videos on it.

How can you create growth on your channel while doing it properly? It just shocks me how society says women should be respected yet men are still acting inappropriate and this woman is using her body.

That's on him then, he could be learning to get better, instead of obsessing over her channel and actually putting out videos. also if she did it in 5 weeks, its not just her low top that got her over the monetisation that's some serious hustling for a fresh channel not a second one etc and will have been promoting, marketing to push people towards her channel.

This. He sounds like a whiner. Unattractive. If he wants the money, he should be prepared to put the work in. I unsubscribe from channels with irregular uploads.

DreadPirateRobots · 29/11/2024 13:40

So basically he's mad that a lady is better at this than him. Classy.

I know you have a point. Sometimes he is moaning in his videos and these are the ones that he is in and they get less views. Whereas the ones where is does not have a moaning agenda and does voice overs he gets more views.

People want positive videos.

I've unfollowed quite a few people who just seem to use social media to whinge - when I'm scrolling TikTok (or whatever) I want lighthearted or interesting content, not videos of someone moaning and complaining.

Alternatively, she's a strong, empowered woman who chooses to dress like that for herself. It's a male-majority content area so, naturally, the majority of her subscribers are males who find her frequent uploads interesting, and we should all celebrate her success in supportive sisterly spirit.

ThatTealViewer · 29/11/2024 13:45

Your partner is only sporadically producing content, much of which features him moaning. However, he thinks his lack of popularity is because a woman is brazenly breasting on the internet?

And you support this misogynistic nonsense?

Crikeyalmighty · 29/11/2024 13:45

@natel I'm afraid that will always be the case - sex sells sadly , always has- he's going to have to live with it

Tallerandtall · 29/11/2024 13:45

@natel

ladies like me who are bigger of bust know they effect they can have.
we have to suffer too in many ways

why is it ok to comment of peoples appearance?

jeez

Regular postings are what builds followers.
There's a guy who does "true crime" murder stories who doesn't even appear on screen, but there's a new vid. every Monday and his followers are in the 10,000s.

Louisetheroux · 29/11/2024 13:49

Come on OP, post a link to both of their channels. Because I'm willing to bet that even if she sat there in a bin bag that her content is far better than his.

HeddaGarbled · 29/11/2024 13:50

Typical unsuccessful man, really: does a rubbish job but assumes woman is more successful than him because men find her sexually attractive.

ObtuseMoose · 29/11/2024 13:54

What are his videos about? YouTube is oversaturated with every kind of content, he needs something way more unique than whiny man baby to gain viewers.

'Monsters'? I'd listen to that man read the phone book. He tells the awful stories well.

Mousetrap Mondays has well over a million subscribers and NEVER takes his top off.
Ditto Big Old Boats - always clothed and respectable.
Oceanliner Designs too.
And Well I Never dresses like an Edwardian.

All popular Channels .
Not a boob in sight.

Sethera · 29/11/2024 14:00

That's business for you - supply and demand. There's more demand for the woman's offering - it's immaterial whether that's due to her boobs or not - there is no magical law that says morally worthier enterprises get more money.

Doggymummar · 29/11/2024 14:01

I'm sorry to say if it's a topic that appeals primarily to men, and there is a woman presenting on it, then she is going to gather followers. If her content is inferior they will soon realise that and unsubscribe. He needs to concentrate on putting out good content on a regular basis, say every Monday Wednesday Friday or whatever. My oh has a YouTube channel and if you stop being regular your subscribers quit. He doesn't want to monetize tho he does it for the fun and good of the genre.

CharlotteLucas3 · 29/11/2024 14:07

There's always a price for doing this though...she'll have to deal with endless idiotic men and potential stalkers.

HPandthelastwish · 29/11/2024 14:14

What actual research did he do before setting up a channel?
Did he identify his key audience?
Did he look at similar channels and find out what works well or not on those.
Did he research and find that people liked moaning videos?

Or did he just think - I like playing video games and others will watch me.

You need to offer something that is either entertainment or informative. If he has a skill, then snappy videos on how to bleed a radiator / repressurise boilers etc are always popular because they give the viewer what they want but the market in 'How to' videos and many other categories is saturated.

Brief Case.

I'll try "Monsters"!
