Please recommend me films or a TV series

My dad is staying with me for the rest of this week. We lost my mum recently and he needs company. We watched that detective series with David Mitchell and young woman and the sea both of which he loved. Please recommend me similar? Shortish TV series that we can watch over a few nights, or some good films. Criteria are not too violent, no sex or nudity, good uplifting stories or alternatively clever and twisty.

I have no idea of your ages but my dad visited recently and we watched,' A matter of life and death' if you have not seen it David Niven is a pilot who should have died inWW II. Also hidden figures, black women in segregated USA working at NASA. We went to see 'Come Fom Away' at the theatre but it is on YouTube.

How about Shetland? My dad enjoys that, and it's not too violent / gory

Moonflower Murders is a similar one to the David Mitchell one I think, also BBC.

I was looking for king Richard but didn't find it on Netflix and we just spotted a film called the boy who harnessed the wind, which was amazing and highly recommended! We have 3 more evenings to fill so I will follow up these suggestions!

Death in Paradise is worth watching just to see how many white people, usually English are murdered on a Caribbean island where the majority of people are black.

I think it is series 3 before a black person is murdered.

Beyond Paradise is good too

McDonald and Dobbs on ITV. Gentle sweet whodunnit set in Bath. Think 4 series, of 2/2/3/4 episodes or something like that jot many but enough

And Dobbs is an older gentleman so plenty to identify with perhaps

Have you watched The Great Escaper with Michael Caine? A great film, very funny but quite emotional too.

My husband was watching some terrestrial tv shows recently that actually seemed quite good. One was called Shetland or Shetland something. I just googled the other one as could only remember the actress was on Taskmaster - it's a show called Whitstable Pearl.

I think both of those would fit the bill for you and your dad!

Just resurrecting this dur to 'Return to Paradise', it's an Australian spin off of 'Death in Paradise' and started this week n BBC and is on i player.
