My dad is staying with me for the rest of this week. We lost my mum recently and he needs company. We watched that detective series with David Mitchell and young woman and the sea both of which he loved. Please recommend me similar? Shortish TV series that we can watch over a few nights, or some good films. Criteria are not too violent, no sex or nudity, good uplifting stories or alternatively clever and twisty.

thank you!

I cried my eyes out at this. Seeing Michael Caine so old was a shock.

I know, I thought the same. And the bit at the end where they said they died within a few months of each other 😢

I've just finished rewatching Death in Paradise. All 13 seasons. Don Warrington makes that show. But also all the French actors I would never have come across in any other way are so enjoyable.
Also I like how irreverent they are, they top celebrity actors before the opening titles. The last one I watched on Friday actual Hailey Mills murdered before the opening music!
We watched Robin Hood yesterday the old one with Kevin Costner who is very wooden but Morgan Freeman is wonderful as are most of the rest of the cast, Alan Rickman looked like he had a ball especially in his big fight scene.
I wanted to watch Flash Gordon today but I might save it for Xmas. Brian Blessed Tim Dalton and Max Von Sydow all going flat out to steal the film.
And why not watch the Italian Job with a young Micheal Caine, I love how diverse it is. What with Camp Freddy and any film with Noel Coward and Benny Hill has to be worth watching. Again and again in my case.
And Constantine if your dad likes a bit of spooky. Keanu Reeves just about manages not to be sqeezed out by Tilda Swinton and Peter Stomare who seemed to have a bet on as to who could be the most over the top.
I hope your dad has time for all these suggestions!
