If you were invited to a Goth themed wedding

What would you wear?! I think it's going to be a fun wedding, (distant relative) but I'm a middle aged woman! I might be able to rock a Morticia look perhaps but we have dh, DS2 (adult) to dress as well. Any ideas welcomed!!!

Id decline. Themed weddings? 🤣

AdviceNeeded2024 · 06/11/2024 19:05

@Sonolanona May I recommend the clothing site Disturbia to you. Lovely well made, flattering clothes that would fit this vibe, in a variety of colours and styles if you don’t want black.

RobertaSaunter · 06/11/2024 19:11

I'd be overjoyed and head straight to Disturbia - any excuse to give them even more of my money Grin

GameOfJones · 06/11/2024 19:11

I would absolutely LOVE to receive an invite like this. Like others I think you want to avoid it looking like you're in fancy dress.

A black or dark purple dress would work. Or I'd look for a deep red velvet dress and wear lace gloves. Chunky boots if you have them.

For men, dark tartan waistcoats or velvet jackets or shirts with billowy sleeves.

I second this!
It would be so much fun, I'd love it. I also think it would work for everyone. Some might go full-on goth, while others might just choose to nod in that direction, with dark coloured dresses etc.

I’m now picturing insanely glamorous women…and Meatloaf 😂

I was married gothsylee in 1989 the groom had a red mohican. The guests came as themselves, we didn't have a theme it was just our choice to be ourselves too. I would be embarrassed if non goths and punks had dressed up like it was a fancy dress party. Yuk

dermalermalurd · 06/11/2024 19:46

I love it when a wedding really celebrates the people getting married instead of the expected (insert name here) rubbish. Love a white wedding, a red wedding, a Viking wedding, whatever; as long as it truly celebrates the people who have chosen to marry.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 06/11/2024 20:15

I echo speaking to the bride /groom and establishing how dressed up it will be. If it’s more the guests are doing a nod to goth themed, then one of the many dark red /purple/ black velvet dresses around at the moment would be a good choice. If you have colours and fabrics that fit in it will at least look like you’ve tried. For the men dark suits would be fine if it’s not full dress up.

Frostycottagegarden · 06/11/2024 20:21

Omg, just looked at disturbia! Their stuff I gorgeous.

LetsChaseTrees · 06/11/2024 20:26

I would LOVE this.

If DH and DS aren’t too sure about it, black suit, black shirt, brocade waistcoat, black tie will look fab. If they want to go for it the sky is the limit!

Id wear something long and velvet if winter. Summer, maybe a long tulle skirt and silk blouse.

Actually I think it’s a really flexible theme, if you’re not in to goth you’ve probably got a black or dark outfit to wear. If you are in to it, you can go overboard!

LetsChaseTrees · 06/11/2024 20:29

Also Etsy is fab for goth clothes.

DoreenonTill8 · 06/11/2024 20:44

Also would love this, probably go for childhood dream of Winona in Beetlejeuse

The invitation says ' Attire, formal, Gothic if desired' Grin
I'm the least 'wedding outfit 'person you can imagine ...I work with small kids and spend my spare time in wellies on my allotment! I don't know the couple well due to them being transatlantic (my half sister's family) as we've only managed to meet a couple of times, but it's a fabulous opportunity to get the families together.
I'll try and find out what they actually mean...

OOh and thanks to those who have flagged up Disturbia... there are some fab outfits on there that would look nice without turning me into an extra from a horror film Grin

Their stuff is really good quality, I’ve got a few bits off there and not had anything I don’t like yet. The reviews are helpful too as people often upload photos so you can see how it looks.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 06/11/2024 21:27

Well if you are a plant person, how about this print? Covers both the goth type hedge witch vibes and something you could easily wear again.

Disturbia foxglove shirt dress

It's great - I find a lot of it quite versatile in that you can make it more or less gothy depending on your need at the time.

🤣🤣🤣 I loved Meatloaf. That's no bad thing in my opinion!

FunnysInLaJardin · 07/11/2024 14:23

All Saints are quite punk/goth and have some lovely clothes

ATastingMenuButItsAllCrisps · 07/11/2024 14:29

It says gothic dress if desired. Do you desire it? If you're not goth, cosplaying as one would be a bit strange.

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 07/11/2024 14:31

Sounds like a wedding I'd finally enjoy!

SirChenjins · 07/11/2024 14:52

If it was only 'desired' then I'd wear something I loved and would leave the dressing up to the other guests. People who insist their wedding guests dress a certain way deserve a special place in hell.

RevelryMum · 07/11/2024 14:54

A nice red or black dress , Smokey eyes , and a red lip .
