What would you wear?! I think it's going to be a fun wedding, (distant relative) but I'm a middle aged woman! I might be able to rock a Morticia look perhaps but we have dh, DS2 (adult) to dress as well. Any ideas welcomed!!!

Disturbia have some good goth dresses that might work.

OMG my teen DS would be over the moon if we were invited to a goth wedding, and would wear black jeans, a waistcoat (charity shops are full of excellent waistcoats, I don't know why) and a black cravat. I would wear similar on top probably with purple velvet trousers. If you prefer skirts to trousers then there's millions to choose from if you google for goth ruffle layer skirt which would look fabulous.

I wore a burgundy lace shift dress to a friend’s goth wedding but there was a mixture of clothing there and people moshing on the dance floor. Hubbie wore shirt and chinos.

As we had on a Whitby tshirt a few decades years ago...'It's A Lifestyle, Not A Trip To Mr Benn's'.

Still, seeings as the happy couple are encouraging it, another vote here for Disturbia 🙂🦇

I would be digging this out my wardrobe (it's black glitter) as an excuse to wear it!

Or this spiderweb dress which I haven't worn yet

Unless they want people looking like fancy dress, then black suits and white shirts for the men, then you can wear anything really in dark colours, dark red, dark green, black. I guess just normal wedding clothes but avoiding pastels. Just take it like a winter wedding.

kitsuneghost · 07/11/2024 15:10

I'd feel odd wearing black if the bride was. If so I would possibly go pastel goth

TriangleLight · 07/11/2024 15:11

For the blokes, black jeans or trousers, band t shirt, black or pinstripe jacket or long coat. A velvet jacket would work well.

Well if you are a plant person, how about this print? Covers both the goth type hedge witch vibes and something you could easily wear again.

Disturbia foxglove shirt dress

That dress is gorgeous.

Oldraver · 07/11/2024 16:41

Probably this corset with a nicer skirt and accessories

I would be looking at the 'christmas party' lines for something in a rich dark colour with textures rather than full-blown 'goth'. But then I'm blonde with freckles and rosy cheeks so never could pull off the goth look.

SugarIsHardtoAvoid · 07/11/2024 17:18

This is the best S&B qu ever. Wish I could be invited to a goth wedding!
I’d go less corsety frou frou Victoriana if I were a non-regular goth gear wearer, so I wasn’t looking too touristy (as that’s what Halloween costumes can involve).
More just choosing dark colours and ideally vintage style inspired if wearing a dress. Or wear a dramatic or vintage looking white shirt and dark trousers. But your make up and hair is going to be as important as your outfit.

honestly, I would probably do a full on costume, but if I wanted to put my 50s something self into something from my closet…

I would start with my high black lace up boots. Add a black lace dress, choker necklace, darker makeup.

if I had time, I’m thinking a sheer mask would be the start of my inspiration.

I think dd would be asking for something steampunk inspired. She would absolutely expect me to find time to make her something.

yes, we are a cosplay family.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/11/2024 17:36

I’d either buy a dress from All Saints and wear it with boots or I’d try to rent a Vampire’s Wife dresss.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 07/11/2024 17:38

I'd probably wear a green velvet maxi dress that I have and goth it up with a choker or other suitable jewellery and boots.

SirChenjins · 07/11/2024 14:52

If it was only 'desired' then I'd wear something I loved and would leave the dressing up to the other guests. People who insist their wedding guests dress a certain way deserve a special place in hell.

This 100%

SirChenjins has put my thoughts much better than I could.

Bowietips · 07/11/2024 22:07

I was bridesmaid at a goth wedding. We wore gorgeous black evening gowns. The bride wore the most beautiful black wedding dress with a purple bouquet and black lace veil. Father of the bride wore a white suit!!

Where is that from?! 😍 I want it!

buffyspikefaith · 08/11/2024 07:35

@GiddyRobin it's Collectif but they've ceased trading now Sad their dresses fit me so nicely

FranKatzenjammer · 08/11/2024 07:46

I would love that and would dig out my old goth clubbing gear from back in the day. I'd also be putting my requests in early for the disco.
