Please post calm thoughts and little wins to keep me from obsessing over the news from the USA. What simple positive things are happening in your life today?

What a great journey! What do you plan to eat when you get to your destination?

My dogs paw has healed and she has had her first walk off the lead

Glad the dog is recovering. I'll be having lunch in Brussels before the Eurostar - hopefully something better than Pret but not grand.

I’m having a lovely relaxing morning before I go and see my very lovely therapist. Have something difficult to face so planning a calm afternoon of crochet with the fire lit.
You can’t change what’s going on overseas. It will be ok.

parietal · 06/11/2024 09:48

Great to hear of so many crochet projects. My half finished one needs more attention.

But I have heard today from an old friend and fixed to meet up so that's good.

Thank you for this thread. I'm not having a great day and it's a good reminder that it's the little things in life that can make a huge difference to how you feel.

MessyNeate · 06/11/2024 10:15

Lovely thread.

I'm not surprised he won though, worries me what will become,

Today I'm eagerly awaiting a phone call to arrange delivery of my brand new car. It was supposed to be here on Monday but it's a little delayed. I'm hoping it arrived at my local Toyota dealer yesterday like they said it would for its inspection and number plates! Fingers crossed.

Other than that in need to clean my old car out (had it cleaned properly like week) but I took the grandbabies to see the fireworks last night and now you wouldn't think it had been cleaned Grin

We finally sold our house, which at times we thought would never happen. And now we're living temporarily in a really lovely rental, that we were really lucky to get. It feels so peaceful and positive.
We just need to successfully buy the house we want now. I feel like a life I never dreamed I could have is happening for me.
Chin up OP. You can have lovely things happen even though the world is disturbing right now.

Selling a house since April. No joy. Despairing now😭

I have had a lazy start to the day with breakfast in bed, I'm turning the news off for the foreseeable, today I plan to go for a swim, have lunch with dh and finish the book I am reading

dudsville · 06/11/2024 10:24

I've cleaned and organised my freezer, have the ingredients out ready to make banana bread. I've deep cleaned upstairs and am on my 3rd load of laundry. The news has been off since 6am. I've got a quiet day to myself. Just took a break before starting on the downstairs, and am sitting here deleting threads saw this one. Thanks OP!

Here are some allotments outside Aachen. Gardening always seems to be a good thing.

And I've seen lots of cows and a few horses but not managed to get any photos- the train is too fast.

Excellent work organising the freezer. Mine hasn't been done in years.

Oh OP - thank you for this thread. What a tonic.

I'm going to use "Calmly through the day" as my daily mantra for the foreseeable.

parietal · 06/11/2024 10:38

Some did a set of "calmly through the day threads" during the pandemic and they made a big difference to me. Wish I could remember who. But today I needed a bit more of the same feeling.

Lovely thread, OP. I've been consoling my two dear American friends today. Hope you're okay. ❤️

I've just eaten some crumpets with butter, marmite, and loads of melted cheddar. Had an awful flu this past two weeks, but feel a bit more myself today. DH has just come in with a little hamper of treats and ordered me to get a long bath, so I think I'm going to zone out for a bit with some nice music and candles.

Lovely pictures - are you stopping in Belgium?

Flor5 · 06/11/2024 16:28

I've had a lovely day with my clever, kind toddler who reminds me the future is bright with little stars like her and her friends and peers in the world, regardless of who's in power. I'm having another daughter and felt her move recently for the first time.

This brought tears to my eyes. Our children are the future. May it be that in the future, the generation who were taught love and acceptance rise highest.

I have a boy and girl, and sometimes still get phantom kicks. It's the most beautiful feeling in the world.

lovely. I saw a woman with a beautiful baby in a carrier on the way home greeting a neighbour, and was happy to think that by the time that baby grows up, this will be in the past.

I've had quite a depressed day and loads of technology frustration while submitting my artwork to an exhibition, but have managed a shower (eventually, at about 2pm), to cook two curries for supper, to buy some fabric for trousers and festive cushion covers, and am now on the sofa with candles lit and have had choral music on.

Interesting that this thread started with a house sale... We are planning to make an offer on a house tonight! We've been searching for the right one for YEARS. 😭 I don't dare get my hopes up.

OldTinHat · 06/11/2024 17:31

My little win today - I stepped on the scales. I've lost 1st in 6weeks since rehoming my rescue dog.

Exercise is up and appetite down. I'm delighted because I'm very fat!

AllTheAll · 06/11/2024 17:55

Love all the positive messages in here especially about children. I hugged mine extra hard after school to day. As the saying goes, they have a tough "row to hoe" cleaning up these messes, but they are bright little stars.

Did some therapeutic shopping with some extra treats. Including some pirouline cookies- the rolled choc. hazelnut wafers. Can't wait for one of those with a cup of tea. Think I will do that now.

Will walk the dog (he needs a lead. He's a working dog, so trainable but stubborn. He would just happily run off because he knows best what he thinks his job is. Apparently it is an occupation out in woods with the wildlife), and then shower and early to bed. Every day is healing.

coxesorangepippin · 06/11/2024 18:11

I had an awesome fried chicken burger for lunch

😊

It was banging

parietal · 06/11/2024 18:28

fried chicken burger sounds like a great lunch.

and pirouline cookies too.

i'm planning pasta carbonara for dinner with real bacon (because the veggie family member is out so we can have real meat). and DH will cook it.

This is so heartwarming to hear because it's going to be my last pregnancy as it's been bittersweet knowing it's my last first movement etc. The end of an era... What an era pregnancy and new to motherhood is.
