Best horror films/tv?

I love horror as a genre but obviously it's not the most reliable with more stinkers than good ones! Can you recommend to me your favourite horrors?

For me off the top of my head my 2 favourites are It Follows and the Haunting of Hill House.

Going to introduce my eldest to Paranormal Activity tonight, not seen since it came out but I remember being terrified in the cinema!

The decent 2005, a caving expedition, goes horribly wrong(bit of an old one though)Think it’s on prime tv, made me jump😂
Smile, on Netflix, very creepy.

GroovyChick87 · 25/10/2024 20:06

The Conjuring, Insidious and Annabelle films. The original Poltergeist. Crimson Peak. The Amityville Horror.

StressedQueen · 25/10/2024 20:07

I came on here to suggest The Haunting of Hill House haha.

The other Mike Flanagan shows are very good too. They feature a lot of the same actors. I love The Haunting of Bly Manor, it isn't a sequel but it's very good, more of a gothic feel and just as sad as Hill House.

Agree with Smile, watched the 2nd one and that's amazing too.

I've recently watched Smile and found it much more disturbing than I expected. I actually felt almost sick with anxiety in places Grin

Lucy25 · 25/10/2024 20:12

@StressedQueen There’s a second one, l didn’t know that (smile) Will watch😉

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 25/10/2024 20:13

Also loved Haunting of Hill House and agree as others have said, so sad actually!

I love it when a horror gives me more than just scares, if that makes sense?

Also Us and Get Out by Jordan Peele, amazing films with so much tribute to past horrors. Wish he'd pull his finger out and make more Grin

The original Saw is an absolute modern classic imo.

The Omen is hands down the best horror movie ever made. Rosemary's Baby is up there too.

Yes definitely! I actually found this one scarier although I'm still not over one of the jump scares in the first one because it terrified me 😱

CharlotteLightandDark · 25/10/2024 20:24

reposted from last weeks horror thread…

for the casual viewer who isn’t necessarily after the more ‘elevated horror’ experience but something kinda fun/schlocky:

Talk to Me
Smile
Barbarian
Orphan and Orphan first kill
X
Incantation
Last Night in Soho

For something a little darker/more serious:

The Dark and the Wicked
Speak no Evil (original)
When Evil Lurks
The Devils Bath
Men
The VVitch
It Follows
The Feast
Suspiria (2018)

He has made more. Nope, and I think he’s produced some others too.

Supposed to be a light hearted thread. Why click on this thread if you feel this way😂

Choosenandenough · 25/10/2024 20:28

Ffs get a grip. There are a million different sub genres of horror movie. It’s not a snuff movie/exploit women threat. Are romantic movies no better than porn either then? Trying to shut down a genuinley innocent thread for no reason!

RebeccaDecember · 25/10/2024 20:29

It Follows and the Haunting of Hill House are my favourites too.

If you fancy a horror that’s a little different… I really enjoyed “Men” with Jessie Buckley. And I did find it genuinely creepy (husband however found it appalling 😂)

Choosenandenough · 25/10/2024 20:30

I enjoyed Ready Or Not recently. Kinda black comedy horror but it was good fun! Bride has to to hide on her wedding night from her rich, eccentric in-laws.
