Best horror films/tv?

I love horror as a genre but obviously it's not the most reliable with more stinkers than good ones! Can you recommend to me your favourite horrors?

For me off the top of my head my 2 favourites are It Follows and the Haunting of Hill House.

Going to introduce my eldest to Paranormal Activity tonight, not seen since it came out but I remember being terrified in the cinema!

Yes definitely! I actually found this one scarier although I'm still not over one of the jump scares in the first one because it terrified me 😱

The Substance.
Absolutely mind blowing movie. Gripping from beginning to end. Creepy, unsettling, dealing with female aging and identity, funny in parts, also beautifully shot, amazing effects. Very ott amazing ending too. The best horror I've ever seen. And I watch a lot of horror movies.

I've recently watched Smile and found it much more disturbing than I expected. I actually felt almost sick with anxiety in places Grin

I came on to say this. Freaked me out.

Where can I watch The Substance please

I just checked and it’s a rental on Amazon prime, Apple or YouTube as far as I can see. I’m going to rent it this weekend I think. I love your username!

betterangels · 25/10/2024 20:47

The original Speak No Evil is disturbingly good.

Anyone who liked Haunting of Hill House have you watched ‘fall of the house of usher’? I LOVED that and even horror hating DH enjoyed it.
The menu is brilliant but not strictly horror

I have terrible taste though I also love shark movies!

For tv try-.

Being Human- Iplayer - A ghost, vampire and werewolf try to navigate the human world. Starring Aiden Turner and Russell Tovey.

Penny dreadfull-Prime- Victorian gothic at its finest. Werewolves, vampires, witches and Frankenstein( with his monster) directed by Sam Mendes, each episode is like watching a blockbuster movie. An incredible cast includes Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Billy Piper, Josh Hartnett and Rory Kinnear.

Midnight mass- Netflix- written/directed by Mike Flanagan( Haunting of Hill house/Bly manor) A mysterious priest brings miracles to a small town.

Chapelwaite- Paramount -Starring the incredible Adrien Brody, this hidden gem is a prequel( by around 200 years) to Salems Lot. One of the best horror programmes I've ever seen.

@tuberole 😂

BanditoShipman · 25/10/2024 21:01

Watched the Speak no evil remake last weekend, not bad, much more ‘Americanised’ than original but decent watch, if you want truly creepy and disturbing though watch the original Danish version

Agree. James McAvoy was great in the remake. It wasn't a bad film, I enjoyed it. It's just not as horrific.

For those who have watched Smile 2. Is it worse than the first one? I'm still debating whether to go.
