New offices all unisex toilets

I have to find new offices and the best ones I've found so far are in a block where each floor has an accessible toilet and a "block" of unisex toilets.

The block is a room off the corridor with individual floor to ceiling cubicles, with a sink in each.

At a staff meeting today I presented the option and explained about the toilets, to gauge what objections there might be.

There were none, at all, in fact people seemed perplexed that I might think there would be.

All cubicles floor to ceiling? I wouldn't have any issue, I've been in offices like that before.

If its floor to ceiling with a sink AND A SANITARY TOWEL BIN (in caps so you don't forget it) then what's the issue

Are you saying men fart more loudly than women?

CrikeyMajikey · 23/10/2024 21:28

I’d hate this men, the men in my life seem to pee everywhere. Yuk.

AliMonkey · 23/10/2024 21:29

If I worked there, I'd appreciate some toilets being designated for men and some for women - in my experience unisex toilets are nearly always less clean than women's which I assume is the men's fault, but happy to be corrected if that's the wrong assumption. Is there anyway you could request that even if they toilets are shared with other tenants?

fashionqueen0123 · 23/10/2024 21:29

We had floor to ceiling toilets with sinks etc but they were split into men’s and women’s.

There was also one unisex one. All the women avoided it.

Ally Mcbeal was so ahead of its time

ScottBakula · 23/10/2024 21:32

Self contained with floor to ceiling walls sounds like a sensible idea.

It cuts down on the floor space and cleaning time needed to maintain them,

If you have any female Muslim colleagues or clients, ask how they would feel about sharing toileting facilities with men.
My Muslim friends use the toilets to adjust their clothing including hijabs, they will be unable to do so in mixed sex facilities.

We're about 50% Muslim and no one expressed any concerns. They have large enclosed cubicles, with sinks and mirrors, why wouldnt they adjust clothing in there?

I'd hate this, women need their own toilets, away from men, they may not have felt able to speak up though.
Silence is not consent.

We won't have the ability to do that. We're taking a couple of rooms in a managed block.

Not really, they hadn't invented spy cams back then.

I expressed it as "the only problem with this one is the unisex toilets" and was told it wasn't a problem.

Because people don't like losing their jobs if they do speak up.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 23/10/2024 21:40

Just put a 🚺 or 🚹 sticker on each cubicle door. Problem solved!

I don't know where you work, but really no-one one in that meeting thought they'd lose their job for expressing a view on toilets.

IME in FM I can assure you the ‘ladies’ WC are left in much worse conditions than the gents!

Futurethinking2026 · 23/10/2024 21:41

One of our offices has this set up. No one (female) likes it and people often go out of the office to the public toilets outside of our office space.

BiggerBoat1 · 23/10/2024 21:42

Why would it be a problem? Each cubicle is self contained.

ru53 · 23/10/2024 21:43

This is common in lots of offices, actually every office I’ve ever worked in. There’s never been an issue with cleanliness. Can the people who say they wouldn’t like it explain why?

Redshoeblueshoe · 23/10/2024 21:44

Self contained are very dangerous if someone has a medical episode. No one will know they are there, and by the time it has been noticed it could be too late.

Because men's toilets smell absolutely vile. Many of them can't aim properly which results in urine all over the floor, seats left up. My uni had unisex toilets on the ground floor and only the guys ever used them.
