New offices all unisex toilets

I have to find new offices and the best ones I've found so far are in a block where each floor has an accessible toilet and a "block" of unisex toilets.

The block is a room off the corridor with individual floor to ceiling cubicles, with a sink in each.

At a staff meeting today I presented the option and explained about the toilets, to gauge what objections there might be.

There were none, at all, in fact people seemed perplexed that I might think there would be.

@liveyoungstayactive you're looking for issues where there are none

I work in the motor trade and anyone who says they haven't come across sexism in that industry is lying, from customers and staff
Nobody HAS to be loud now because the company and individuals have made it clear it's not accepted

We have a female sales manager and a female service manager which is unheard of in most garages as well as female mechanics

What I mean is if a male started work with us and tried to be sexist, he wouldn't be there long. I'm proud that the place I work for is such a champion of women in the industry because the industry traditionally hasn't been

At least we have two toilets, in many workplaces I've been such as retail there is one toilet and you all share it

Can't see the issue myself, I've worked in places with unisex loos, never been an issue. Currently have separate but as open to public it's very hit or miss if the ladies is clean!

It kicked off big time recently when our new offices had similar. I couldn't understand why to be honest when I heard. It's also individual toilet with their own sink, dryer and mirror. They are quite large and there's about 8-10 per floor. They ended up giving in and out male or female signs on doors 🤷🏻‍♀️

Maybe I'd change my mind though if I experienced the unisex toilets!

I'd hate it. I couldn't wee with my boss in the next cubicle

Lovely bit of everyday sexism here. My boss (the CEO) is a woman (shocker I know) so I may find myself weeing in the next cubicle regardless of layout. As we have fully contained separate rooms with their own sinks she at least will never have to see me rinse off a mooncup or washing my sweaty armpits after a brisk lunchtime walk in the summer.

It would be a no from me

Creepy Graham from IT following me into the lav, going in the next cubicle to have a wank while he imagines me p*ssing

We genuinely had to fire a man for wanking in the loos.

Livinginaclock · 24/10/2024 18:04

Exactly.
Some men are disgusting, but even the decent ones don't belong in our spaces.
This is only being changed because of men pretending to be women and I say no.

Deathraystare · 24/10/2024 18:14

We have one female loo, one male loo and two unisex. Someone regularly does a monster dump in the nearest (unisex) one and fills the bowl with paper, not flushing it and we have to have it regularly cleared. Also, first thing in the morning, some guy pees and leaves without flushing. I guess he is a man child and mummy/wifey normally flushes for him.

😂made my morning that!

@Butterworths

It's not sexism to express an opinion.

I don't want to use shared toilets with men. I believe in the importance of women's spaces as being safe, something that is being slowly eroded. And it's people like you who shout 'sexist!' that make women less safe.

Startingagainandagain · 25/10/2024 09:50

I would hate that.

All we have in our small office is one unisex toilet and I never feel comfortable there.

Yesterday I went to a well known London gallery and was shocked to see men waiting in the queue to get in the cubicles (not floor to ceiling) I did a double take and thought I had the wrong toilets...but no they have gone unisex. Again I felt very uncomfortable and this really has the potential to be unsafe.

It should be the law to provide women-only facilities.

The sexist part (which is wildly doubled down on in your post) is to assume a boss would be a man. I am not making women less safe by pointing this out and I entirely agree that men should not be in women's loos.

okydokethen · 25/10/2024 12:57

My boss IS a man

Butterworths · 25/10/2024 15:18

But why would the fact you don't like weeing near your boss be relevant to a thread about men in women's spaces unless bosses were de facto men?

She didn't. She quite clearly said

'I'd hate it'
'I couldn't wee with my boss in the next cubicle.'

She said this because her boss is a man. She didn't de facto anything or anyone.

I'd never be able to use the toilet next to any of my past male bosses.

She didn't what? Sorry genuinely it may be me being dense here.
