Virgin Media - what are you being charged?

My Virgin Media plan is coming to an end soon. I’m currently paying £27 for M350 broadband - is this a good price or overpriced? I’m not sure if that’s the best they can do or not, it’s hard to tell as it seems they offer different discounts to different customers!

Never take the first quote. Even if you just phone up, they'll offer you something better. To get access to the best deals, maybe try asking this question on the Virgin Media Community board.

WhenIGrowUpIWantToBeAPenguin · 19/10/2024 17:49

Well I’m really glad you posted this…

I’m currently paying £55 for M125 broadband, with a renewal offer of £42. Sounds to me like you’ve got a much better deal. I will definitely be giving them a call!

Windywuss · 19/10/2024 17:56

So embarrassed to say I'm paying over £80 a month for broadband only. I have not managed to phone them for a better deal because I'm considering leaving but I hear such awful things about trying to leave, I just can't face it (stressed and chronically ill single mum with a job that needs good internet).

I hate that we all get ripped off unless we have the capacity to be proactive and spend ages on the phone trying to sort it.

cofefefela · 19/10/2024 18:02

@WhenIGrowUpIWantToBeAPenguin ouch, I think that’s definitely overpriced. But then again @Windywuss paying £80 is shocking!

It wasn’t too bad negotiating, though it is another tedious thing in the admin pile!

I used the live chat to cancel. They gave a pitiful offer so I went ahead with giving the 30 day notice for disconnection. The next day they called and gave the price in my OP. I did end up going for the first deal they offered, but they also upgraded my broadband speed for free. No lapse in my internet service. Wish I had @Willowkins great advice sooner as maybe their 2nd offer would have been better!

£55 too and it's shite, constantly dropping even though the router isn't showing errors. I desperately need to change but I just can't face the rigmarole of it all.

Littletreefrog · 19/10/2024 18:15

£35 for 1130Mbps and whatever the basic TV package is called.

Summer24isRubbish · 19/10/2024 18:15

I’ve Gig 1volt incl landline at £32 a month

I got this rate by threatening to leave ( I’m also an 02 customer)

Littletreefrog · 19/10/2024 18:16

Oh and landlines but we don't use that.

ConcussedPigeon · 19/10/2024 21:17

We’re paying over £145 a month for mid-range TV, M500 broadband and a landline (that we don’t use) package. I think it’s way, way too much, but Virgin are the only broadband provider to our area and they say they can’t reduce the cost 😔

Have you threatened to leave? That's a crazy amount.

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 19/10/2024 21:21

£36 for M125 broadband. Plus a phone line I never use but it was cheaper with it.
I have to say it's the best internet around here and I rarely have any issues and when I do, it's sorted super fast. Far better internet than my friends on BT

MissyPants · 19/10/2024 21:29

£38 for M350.
I was paying £38 before renewal as well but on a broadband of less speed. They upgraded the speed but for the same price which I was happy with.
I haggled and haggled and they assured me it was the best they could do.
In general never go for renewal prices tho, always haggle. It would have been more expensive to stay on the less speed broadband if I wouldn't have rang up.

hadwebutworldenoughandtime · 19/10/2024 21:32

I put off leaving Virgin media for years and finally switched to sky in April this year. It was a lot easier than I thought even though we had a technical problem on the first weekend. Customer service were great - possibly didn't want a bad review from a new customer- and the coverage is better.

Managed to roll netflix into our new package and get ad skipping and sky cinema for £20 cheaper than we were paying virgin.

Not to say we won't swap again but i won't be as worried about the hassle next time.

Panicmode1 · 19/10/2024 21:34

£61 for M500 with landline and basic TV. I know we are overpaying but have been with BT and Sky before who were worse, so given we have 4 teens and need superfast broadband we have stayed. I threaten to leave every year and this time they weren't as generous, but it was too much hassle to move. Next time ....!

SunShinesOnLeith · 19/10/2024 21:37

I’m on M125 broadband for £17.40 a month (had to put them on notice to leave to get this price). It drops quite a lot though and I’m considering changing when my contract is up for renewal in January but the thought of changing my email address is what keeps me with Virgin.

Skunkaniseed · 19/10/2024 21:40

I had a row with them and got a £45 discount so am only paying £27 as an existing customer.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 19/10/2024 21:42

We're paying £90 a month for top whack broadband and everything else basic.

TBH we don't ever have an issue with it, and sometimes have five people gaming. I'd rather pay less but I also don't want to risk the speed we have.

ConcussedPigeon · 19/10/2024 21:43

Littletreefrog · 19/10/2024 21:19

Have you threatened to leave? That's a crazy amount.

I know it’s nuts. Threatened to leave, but no one else provides broadband locally. They offered me £2 off, which is an insult.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 19/10/2024 21:46

Well what do you know - the single bill my husband has control of, he's been saying that we're in contract (as we've had some bloke come round try and sell us another company) and we're out of contract.

So fucking bone idle, obviously if I don't research it then we'll continue paying nearly £100 a month.

I'm going to try and sort this on Monday. I'm really pissed off now. We're on M500.

We've also been customers since 2008, so hopefully loyalty counts for something!

ConcussedPigeon · 19/10/2024 21:56

I’m calling on Monday too - disgusted at how different these prices are for comparable packages.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 19/10/2024 22:01

We're paying £51 for very fast broadband, a landline that we don't use and the basic TV package. It's expensive and we thought about switching to Sky etc but Virgin is the only provider in our area that currently offers full fibre, so we decided to stick with them for now.

Noddy21 · 19/10/2024 22:02

I pay £67 that’s with a 20% discount for M350 and basic package

Uponastarr · 19/10/2024 22:14

Basic tv, m125 broadband and phone line with free weekend calls for £33 a month. Every time at end of contract I ring up and cancel, then they offer it for about £45 and I say no too expense and go through to another person who usually then offers it below £35. Never accept the first price they offer - just tell them you still want to cancel - usually have to speak to at least 2 people.

CHeck the price they offer for new customers with all the deals and also check if topcashback have a cashback deal on and factor that it too.
