How do you pronounce these 2 words…ate and Jude?

How do you pronounce these 2 words and where are you from? I’ve heard them on tv said a lot different to how I say them.

  1. ate…I said ‘et’ as in let, met, bet etc
  2. jude…like dude, food, mood

from the north of Ireland

I’m from Essex. Ate is like Ayte, there’s not much difference between eight and ate for me

Jude the same as you, assuming we are pronouncing food, mood etc the same

I’m in London. RP accent. I use a slightly different part of my mouth to say ‘ate’ and ‘eight’ they sound the same though!

Jude rhymes with dude.

Me too, I think, but I have no idea what rules I’m inadvertently following. It’s possible it’s random and I use both as I was brought up in Scotland but live in the south of England.

Ate I pronounce both 8 and et and jude I pronounce in the same way as mood....but with a j lol. From the west Midlands

I have never heard dude pronounced like that! Where are you from?

Jude rhymes with food (surely everyone as heard hey Jude, how else could it be pronounced? I think actually scottish might be a shorter u but I can't think how to spell the sound!)
