Fragrances of the decades!

For me the 90s are Sunflowers - Elizabeth Arden, but I grew up in the US so not sure if it was the same in the UK? Every girl I knew doused herself in Sunflowers.

What about the other decades?

In the eighties I started wearing Jessica McClintock. She had a fancy dress line initially called gunne sack(spelling?) then called Jessica McClintock and introduced fragrance. It was a white floral and I STILL
wear it today. And I still receive compliments on it. Every time I try to change over to a
newer white floral I just can’t. It’s less available so following MN threads advice I have a bottle in reserve in a dark temp controlled cabinet. I still love it. It’s truly my signature smell

Omg I forgot about Jessica McClintock!! I used to adore that one as well.

Other 90s scents I forgot:

Dune
Roma

Soluckyinlove · 08/10/2024 15:33

60s: Aqua Manda
Charlie

70s: Rive Gauche
Interdit
Lou Lou

80s: First by Van Cleef and Arpels. (Still my all time favourite)

hurklebum · 08/10/2024 16:02

Oh my, I love Van Cleef and Arpels First too. I bought a bottle at a jumble sale when I was about 10, and unlike most of the others I got that way, it was lovely.

For me:
80s: White Musk, Intimate musk, Anais Anais, another really heavy Body Shop oil that I've forgotten - a bit like apples and very sweet.

90s: Sublime by Jean Patou, Rose musk, a posh one in a bluish bottle that smelled of melons, Intimate musk, Joop Homme. Youth Dew because I inherited a bottle! Quite challenging to wear tbh.

00s: Sublime is the only one I remember, and Sandalwood and rosemary essential oils.

10s: Ginger by Lush, Issey Miyake (various) Molton Brown (various but Oud and amber smells stand out). Sandalwood and patchouli essential oils.

20s: Tom Ford (various) Grass and Devil's Nightcap by Lush, (Ginger is still nice but too evocative of lockdown!)

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/10/2024 16:08

Rive Gauche was the first perfume dh bought me when we were dating .

I now want to try Jessica McClinktock, never heard of it before!

Fizzadora · 08/10/2024 16:20

Early 70s Smitty - all I could afford
Mid 70s Tweed by Lentheric & Youth Dew Estée Lauder - both far too cloying and heavy for a teenager
80s - Chanel No 5 - still love this but I met DH and his allergies meant I couldn't wear any perfume ever again😂

purser25 · 08/10/2024 16:30

still like Anais Anais and body shop White musk. Remember Aqua Manda as a teenager. There was another one that was meant to small like freshly mown hay!

Mary46 · 08/10/2024 16:31

Loved CK One and body shop dewberry. Anais Anais and lou lou popular

@Fizzadora I think you may be same age range as me - do you remember pino.silvestre on the boys?
I smelt Youth Dew on someone the other day and asked what it was as I
didn't recognise it .
It was divine

Thank you @quantumbutterfly

Lavenderandbrown · 08/10/2024 17:56

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichorJessica McClintock is a white floral described as Lilly of the valley top note but honestly it’s subtle and perfumers describe Lilly of the valley as “mute”. I have tried to switch to other Lilly of the valley scents including the OG of them all DIOR but always go back. You can find on Amazon or I buy it right out of the case at my USA Walmart. It has a long shelf life I’ve never had one go bad. I do think some scents transcended time and if it were repackaged and rebranded it would be popular again.

Don’t think so it was the same era as Aqua Manda possibly the same manufacturer it was advertised in Jackie
