A guy was messaging me for a little while. The meet up seemed to keep being delayed so I sort of had to distance as I hate becoming too invested. I just get scared. Anyway, he asked me how I was last night then told me “still got a cold but gotta keep smiling” then proceeded to send me a video of himself, smiling and moving round in bed with a very obvious filter.

My body was cringing. Why on earth are people like this. Maybe my autism makes me too blunt. But what the actual heck.

And I get what pp meant about sending selfies etc being effeminate. I mean it depends on the context but when I start talking to a guy I want him to show me he’s intelligent and capable and thoughtful. I kind of cringe when men in their 30s and 40s I meet on apps think I’m going to be impressed by their 6 pack or pretty smile when that’s all they’re giving me.

Assuming the date has been delayed by him and you’ve been talking longer than a week he sounds like a time waster who is looking for attention and an ego boost from you but nothing more. Men who see you as a catch are keen to meet up and will make sure they do asap.

A few years ago I was seeing a guy who used to send me videos of him rapping. (Yes, songs. Not presents).

Those filters are hilarious. So many times now when some poor young person goes missing or something and one of those filtered pouting photos is used from their social media for the story I just think it could be anyone! It’s just a mask of smooth flesh.
