It's cold and miserable outside, we've lit the fire for the first time, dinner is cooked, we're up to date with all the TV we follow... It's the perfect evening for a film!

There are very few films we both agree on - we have Amazon, Netflix and Disney, What films, from the last 2-3 years, fit the following criteria:

Not sci-fi or fantasy
Not a rom-com
Not a horror/gory

A drama or comedy would be good. If drama, not doom & gloom/depressing.

Wise MNers - what should we watch this evening?!

Brian and Charles. Really hard to describe. Lovely offbeat film with laughs along the way. (No idea if you can access it though, I saw it at the cinema).

PolaroidPrincess · 27/09/2024 18:05

Not a new film but I loved Bank of Dave.

Wicked Little Letters on Netflix

Swan Song. Touching. Again, with a laugh to be had (but a serious subject). Fab performance from Udo Kier.

The Holdovers - a lovely film, my favourite for quite a while, and I go to the cinema a lot! I think it's streaming on Amazon Prime.

In honour of Maggie Smith - Keeping Mum x

Arthur the King - sweet, feel good film, based on a true story, about a group of men doing a long distance adventure race, and a dog.

I agree, Coda is a lovely film, and stars Aled Jones, of The Snowman fame, daughter.

Legends of the Fall! Classic

ArnieandBob · 27/09/2024 18:36

Green Book, loved that film.
Where the Crawdads Sing.
And this is an old film but my absolute favourite, The Bridges of Madison County.

Paisleydad · 27/09/2024 19:45

I'll second Green Book.

Do let us know what you went for.

I heard on the news that she won an Oscar for California Suite, which is a film I've never even heard of.
