Programmes you associate with newborn stage

I was reminiscing with my husband recently. I have twin girls, when we first brought them home (they were prem) we were up to very 3 hours.

The tv programmes I remember so well are

game of thrones - final season. We always watched the episode at 2am when we were up for a feed 😂

during the day I watched greys anatomy

also when they had their first injections (we were extremely nervous about this for reasons that I won’t go into). We stayed up all night to keep an eye on them and to top them up with calpol. We watched the entire season of Chernobyl on sky in one night 😂

what programmes do you associate with the newborn stage?

I stayed at my parents’ house for the first few weeks of DD’s life. Unfortunately for me, a big snooker tournament was taking place at the time and that was all my DF wanted to watch.

During the long sleepless nights of breast-feeding, I read through my DP’s entire collection of Reader’s Digests.

BiggieLittle · 12/08/2024 22:14

Buffy the vampire slayer - watched it when up at night with both dc as babies. It was my childhood comfort show so I could watch it numerous times and didn’t need to concentrate etc.

dc2- also added in downton abbey and poldark when stuck on the sofa/bed breastfeeding

I think your DTs must be almost exactly the same age as my DD!

We also watched The Rain, it's in German and we watched it with the TV on really quietly with subtitles. If you asked me what happened I couldn't tell you though, the delirium had truly set in by then!

DD1 - the Olympics (Tokyo) and hours upon hours of Chicago Med and Chicago Fire

DD2 - the Olympics (Paris) 🤣, caught up on Chicago Med and Chicago Fire as I didn't watch any more after I went back to work, plus Law and Order SVU on Netflix.

I do not intend to be on mat leave for LA 2028!!

Looking for something new to start watching for the next few months now.

AlexanderArnold · 12/08/2024 22:16

X Factor with my first! He would have a little nap downstairs in the evenings and we would watch then bring him up with us. Happy days! I don't think I watched anything with the other two, just desperately grabbed sleep when possible!

Thetrickcyclist · 12/08/2024 22:17

Gavin and Stacey
The Olympics (Beijing)

CheeseWisely · 12/08/2024 22:21

Mine is only 9 weeks old now, but for the first few weeks of his life we'd get up each morning and go see what had gone on in the (Love Island) villa during the morning feed and my breakfast.

DH signed me up to Discovery+ as a maternity treat (Grin) so there's also been a good deal of 90 Day Fiancé, Faking It and various paranormal / hoarding shows.

Blimey - watching Chernobyl can't have done much for your anxiety! 🤣

Great series but super disturbing...

LaWench · 12/08/2024 22:22

Dexter, loved that show during my first Mat leave.

Britains got talent, the live shows, with both my dc’s who were born in similar months. Dd1 one born every minute and dd2 Dallas Texas cheerleaders! This thread has taken me right back!

Dallas Cheerleaders here too!!

Sweet Magnolias on nextflix and shamefully At Home with the Furys in one day while cluster feeding (they somehow drew me in)

Haven’t been able to finish This Is Us as it made me cry a lot before being pregnant and as much as I want to finish it I think I know will happen and I I don’t think I could take it with the hormones!

BabyICantDriveMyCar · 12/08/2024 22:25

I watched so much judge rinder with a newborn awake all night.

FerreroFan · 12/08/2024 22:25

Too much Come Dine With Me, breastfeeding and quietly forming judgements about people from different areas.

Also, far too many people make cheesecake for dessert.

GreenMarigold · 12/08/2024 22:28

Dexter and The Bridge

RenoDakota · 12/08/2024 22:28

Homes Under the Hammer. First saw it when I was at home on maternity leave with my daughter (who is 20 now). Still catch it sometimes when I am at home in the morning and it gives me a warm glow, remembering those lovely days.

KitchenMandarin · 12/08/2024 22:29

The Man In The High Castle. I was actually obsessed but I've never rewatched.
Endless episodes of Say Yes ToThe Dress.
Lots of Homes Under The Hammer.

Such a lovely thread. I'd love to go back to tiny newborn snuggles just for one day.

BurbageBrook · 12/08/2024 22:29

Also Game of Thrones. Poor baby with that as the soundtrack to her early life!

Yogayogayoga · 12/08/2024 22:29

All of the Star Wars movies. Dd went through a stage of waking up at midnight and staying awake until 4-5am. We lived in a freezing cold flat in Athens with no Internet but had the Star Wars movies on an ancient hard drive. You had to plug it into the computer in a certain way then not touch or move near it or it would disconnect. I think I have ptsd from that period as hearing the theme tune still makes me shudder.

StuckOnTheCeiling · 12/08/2024 22:29

Luther. Loads more I’m sure (in fact I think I watched everything Netflix had to offer) but when I think back to 2am on the sofa with a baby who Did Not Sleep, it’s Luther which comes to mind!

Hughs · 12/08/2024 22:34

A few years ago now but with DS I watched repeats of Bergerac and Midsomer Murders, John Nettles basically saw me through my maternity leave. Also Home and Away, although the theme song always made me cry "you know we belong together" sob sob while gazing at little DS 😂

I don't remember having time to watch anything much with DD, but she just used to have a quick nap anywhere when she was tired in the day, whereas DS needed to be cuddled and slept for hours so I was confined to a chair a lot of the time with him.

RenoDakota · 12/08/2024 22:37

Also, anyone remember The Hoobs on Channel 4? Was on very early in the morning and we watched it while I was getting ready to go to work just after my first maternity leave, 2001/2. Oh my days, the nostalgia.
Lovely thread, OP.

WimbyAce · 12/08/2024 22:39

Scottishdreams1991 · 12/08/2024 22:40

Noseybookworm · 12/08/2024 22:41

I used to watch Prisoner Cell Block H when feeding my eldest late at night in 1990! I actually got quite into it 😂 no netflix or multitude of channels to choose from then!

PrancerandDancer · 12/08/2024 22:44

Dance moms 🙈🙈
Happened to be on in the daytime during feeds and quickly became a habit
