Sneeze patterns?!

CLR1313 · 17/07/2024 20:54

So I may be totally on my own here, and just bear in mind that I am autistic, but I find sneezing completely fascinating! How everyone has a different sounding sneeze, how some people always sneeze a certain amount of times, how some people “hold their sneeze in (I think it’s called stifling), some people have loud sneezes, some quiet. It just blows my mind. I find myself paying attention to the way people sneeze and there is just something that sparks my curiosity.

so all that being said - tell me about your sneezes please? Are you a one and done? Do you have one of those “dad” sneezes? Do you do quiet sneezes? Are you loud and proud? Is it always a certain amount? Do you find sneezing satisfying (I do!) or do you find it an inconvenience?

let me know!!

Me, personally, I usually always do three at a time! Quite loud (I can’t make them quieter), and very satisfying!!

Are you a journalist OP or just have an obsession with sneezes?
Your responses seem almost OCD about them!
Any reason why you care so much about other peoples functions, even though they've answered the question, but then you still ask- 'Well how many sneezes'? This is actually really bizarre questioning!
Genuinely interested if you are writing a paper or just have an obsession or fetish about sneezing?
Yes, I read that you have autism, but surely your fascination is beyond that?

Reckon l have sneezed 20 times tonight if not more- gone through a box of tissues. Am recently finding eating crisps makes me sneeze which is bizarre.

Wow I’ve never heard of crisps making someone sneeze?! Especially so much!! Do you have loud sneezes or quiet ones?

Not a journalist! I do have OCD and autism (diagnosed) and it’s my current hyperfocus I guess! I’ve become obsessed with counting how many sneezes I do and am finding it interesting to compare to others. Tbh I had considered writing a paper about it

My sneezes are pretty dull. I wish they were explosive when I have a head cold so I could blast all the snot out.

I have a friend who has a really squeaky type sneeze, and it does my head in.

I love it when my dog sneezes. She usually does about 3 in a row, and her nose bends at a funny angle just before she sneezes.

Haha my dog always seems shocked whenever he sneezes, like he wasn’t expecting it!

Another one to sneeze in threes. Usually first thing at the moment when pollen is high. And although I have a quiet speaking voice, my sneezes are strangely loud.

RabbitsRock · 21/07/2024 09:56

Great thread OP! I’m staggered by the number of people l see out walking in groups & when one of them does an absolutely earth shattering sneeze, nobody reacts! Not even a titter! How can you not react?! DF is the funniest in our family. He often has sneezing fits after 9pm strangely & has done about 20 in a row. He “ speaks” his sneezes so they sound like “ Baashoo” & they always take it out of him. We’ve had various theories about what causes it over the years from Concorde going over ( back in the day) to DF having eaten yogurt! DB looks up at the sun then nearly gives himself whiplash doing a short but explosive sneeze! DH is similar to DF but his fits can be anytime of day. He will actually say “Ashoo”. I had a friend at college with the sweetest little sneeze & she would say “Atishoo”. So endearing. I will often stick my thumb up my nose to help a sneeze out then I do 3 or 4 with a gap in between, very loud! Find it quite satisfying.

RabbitsRock · 21/07/2024 09:57

One of our bunnies sometimes sneezes if she gets straw or hay dust up her nose - cutest thing ever!

Fairly loud - if l try and make them quiet l end up biting my tongue. The crisp thing is quite recent but so random!

I sneeze in threes. Always unless I'm about to get ill.

The sneezing in 3s may just be the 3 or another with a small breathing break in between sets.

If I sneeze less than three times, I'm guaranteed to be coming down with something.

I HATE sneezing. I'm not iverly loud or in your face (ew) about it. Just really dislike how my nose feels after and if ha ingredients multiple sneezes can get a bit light headed after

I find that really interesting! It’s fascinating how our bodies just have set patterns!

I always do only one but it's massive and loud, husband always does 4 in a row but smaller! I love hearing the squeaky ones

I mean “one and done” might be a good thing! It doesn’t drag on haha

I sneeze exactly like someone writing the sound of a sneeze "achoo" quite short and sharp but high pitch. I would say moderate volume but DD has described it as a mouse sneeze. I also make the sound "hiccup" when I hiccup.

I usually sneeze more than once but less than five times. I often pinch my nose slightly even though I know you aren't really supposed to.

That’s interesting to know! I don’t think I make an “achoo” sound or a “hiccup” sound!

why aren’t you supposed to pinch your nose?

I'm a two. But I never get any warning and they always surprise me. I have also been told I have a cute sneeze as I make a 'choo' noise

I can always feel mine coming ahead of time - I had assumed everyone could! But interesting to know!

My mum sneezes 9 times. Every single time. It goes on forever as there are quite long gaps between the first 3 and the rest. I stop saying bless you after the first 2. I agree it's fascinating

Oh wow! I just find it fascinating that some people have set patterns that don’t change. Like why is it always 9? We will never know!

I sneeze if I stand on the cold floor tiles in bare feet. The worst sneezes are behind the wheel of the car though. They’re scary.

TragicTess · 21/07/2024 00:29

Never sneeze just the once, often 2 in a row, but I then know if there is another one coming. Loud - have been asked to sneeze quietly?! My DD sneezes gently, DH sneezes a lot (hay fever) whereas DS does the exact same sneeze as his grandfather.
I find tiny quiet sneezes fascinating 🤓

I wish I could do a tiny quiet sneeze! Haha I think if we could sneeze quietly, we would! Mine does draw attention in public!

I sneeze a lot, they are small delicate sneezes and I sneeze at least 6 times in a row, like a cat apparently! If I pluck my eyebrows or scratch my head a certain way I sneeze!
I too find sneezing very satisfying. Someone once told me a sneeze is equivalent to one eighth of an orgasm! Made the mistake of sharing that with work colleagues who now count my sneezes and I get a loud cheer if I do 8 🤣

Ah I’d love a delicate little sneeze!
yes they are satisfying! Haha that’s funny!!! I can just imagine everyone counting your sneezes, hoping you get to 8 haha

I can only assume the other people must be used to the sneezing and sick of it haha

never heard of sticking your thumb in your nose to help a sneeze along - how did you discover that?!

I find sneezing really satisfying. I hate it when you get the feeling you're going to sneeze, but then you don't. Confused

You’re welcome. I love hiccups too, except for the disappointment of waiting for the next one when it doesn’t happen.
