Toast. Triangles or rectangles?

Toast tastes better being cut in to triangles. Dh does not agree.

I don’t really eat toast (as I’m an animal and can’t trust myself to eat just one or two slices!) but if I did have some at home I think I’d leave it whole.
In a hotel I like triangles in the toast rack though, infinitely more preferable to boring rectangles.

Blisterly · 17/07/2024 08:12

Homemade bread - whole or rectangles depending on the size. Supermarket square bread - triangles.

TheDogsMother · 17/07/2024 08:13

DH cuts his toast into rectangles but from the top to the bottom of the slice, not across the middle left to right. Weird.

Deathraystare · 17/07/2024 08:13

Toast - I cut across -so is that rectangles?

Sandwiches are cut into triangles

AnImaginaryCat · 17/07/2024 08:18

What has brought your husband to a place where he has such disturbing thoughts?

What is his attitude towards the way loo roll - over on under? It's important we know how bad the situation is.

OldTinHat · 17/07/2024 08:22

Always as is in one piece, unless having with soup when it needs to be cut into soldiers. Anything else is extremely U.

Your husband is wrong. Obviously toast tastes better in triangles Confused

Pastimperfection · 17/07/2024 08:40

Triangles without a doubt. Squares means you have a mouthful of crust with each bite.

I do both… but I find rectangles more satisfying, I love to slather the top rounder piece in butter, I don’t know why but it just tastes better

Same here!

I always cut in 4. I never realised anyone might judge.

If I saw someone putting rectangles rather than triangles in my favourite toast rack I would be pulling on a fresh set of judging pants and whipping the condiments and butter away pretty quickly.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 17/07/2024 09:47

I have a very fussy household. Dh only likes triangles, youngest likes soldiers, middle child only likes rectangles and won't eat triangles. I just eat whatever is left 😆

twiddlingthumbs69 · 17/07/2024 10:06

Squares, I'm not a psychopath!

JenniferSaundersIsMyMum · 17/07/2024 10:27

But if your toast is a Plain Loaf (as it should be) then it has to be rectangular.

I'm not a total heathen. If I was using a toast rack I would obviously go with triangles. Anything else would be an offence against aesthetics. I only cut in 4 rectangles when the toast is going straight from toaster to plate.

GreenMarigold · 17/07/2024 10:46

I prefer mine whole. Same with sandwiches.

AdaColeman · 17/07/2024 10:53

Triangles !
Unless it is cheese or sardines on toast, in which case rectangles are preferable.

There are some Philistines on this thread!

KnickerlessParsons · 17/07/2024 11:30

I don't cut mine up at all. I just bite into it (controversial).

WithIcePlease · 17/07/2024 11:37

I like it whole and folded over

DoublePeonies · 17/07/2024 11:40

Toast? Uncut.

Sandwiches - rectangles, unless you are DS2, which insists on triangles.

Sheepadoo · 17/07/2024 11:41

i don’t cut toast

TheHuntSyndicate · 17/07/2024 11:42

Neither. Tear a piece at a time and add butter and marmite/jam if necessary.

CocoapuffPuff · 17/07/2024 11:43

Who the heck cuts toast????
Whole slice here. I'm not a toddler.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 17/07/2024 11:48

I just fold mine in half

BobandRobertaSmith · 17/07/2024 11:52

Triangles.

And buttered unevenly so the butter is mostly melted with tiny spots of unmelted butter.

There are actual scientific studies about the “perfect” slice of toast 😂

Toast and sandwiches do taste better in triangles because the average ratio of crust to bread for each mouthful is less (ie less crust) so you get more butter/filling in each mouthful except the last one in the top crust corner.

QED

AttackMeleys · 17/07/2024 11:58

I don't cut my toast. I take out of the toaster, butter it, marmite it, eat it. I can never get my head around pil people who fanny around with a million different steps, toast racks, wide choice of jams etc layed out, small pieces individually buttered etc. Crumbs everywhere, butter contaminated marmite/jam or worse, jam contaminated butter, and cold toast at the end of it. Absolute wrong'uns!

If toast needs cutting for toddlers, I quarter into squares....
