Someone’s parked in our allocated space

Not sure what to do as it doesn’t happen often but when it does it’s so inconvenient!
We live in a small flat with 7 parking spaces (one for each household) we have two cars so we park one in our allocated numbered space and one we have to park down the road.
Nobody usually parks in anyone’s spaces because there have been warnings at the start from the landlord stating nobody is allowed to park in anybody’s space.
last night my husband took the car that’s usually parked in the parking space to work and he doesn’t get home till after 12am ish when he returned he found a car parked in our space, this never usually happens regardless how long it’s empty nobody normally parks there.
So he had to park down the main road where our other car was, this meant I had to rush my child to walk him down to the main road to get him in school on time, it’s also a busy road and hard to get out off so it was a massive inconvenience! The car is still there now at nearly 11am I don’t know who it belongs to and I need to do a big food shop which I can’t do when my car is parked far away 🫣 I just can’t believe how inconsiderate some people are!

Leave a note on the windscreen. Take a photo of the car with your best compensation face and send it to your landlord.

In all seriousness though I'd stab their tyre.

You'd puncture a tyre that would mean that the car would be there even longer while the person changed it or waited for assistance? Right? That's a stupid suggestion and I don't believe anyone would do that in real life

It's quite possibly a genuine mistake by someone who doesn't know the parking rules and will be very apologetic when they find out

veryCrossMrFlibble · 11/07/2024 13:13

Put some nails under the back of their back tyres so they get a nice slow puncture when they finally back out of the space. Only kidding of course, I'd never really suggest such behaviour 😁 Definitely a note on the windscreen and take photos.

Fraaahnces · 11/07/2024 13:14

Block them in anyway. Leave a note on your car to phone. If it’s Neighbours they won’t mind when you explain - if not, fuck them.

mydamnfootstuckinthedoor · 11/07/2024 13:20

All you can do is put a note on the windscreen. Why don't you all club together to have flat numbers painted on the spaces? Or pay to have a "residents only" parking sign put up? Or ... have your own sign made, with your reg number on
it, saying "Parking reserved for XXXXX"

AloeVerity · 11/07/2024 13:21

Report it as abandoned on your property?

TurtleTackle · 11/07/2024 13:37

Put bananas in their exhaust pipe
not from Beverley hills cop I swear

CharlotteBog · 11/07/2024 13:43

I'm sure most people wouldn't actually do some of the suggested things on this thread!

I think it would be fine to block the drive while you unload your shopping.
I certainly wouldn't NOT do my food shop because of this short inconvenience to others.

Then put a note on their windscreen.

Flowerpowerr1 · 11/07/2024 13:57

I’ve already done the food shop unloaded the car, I sounded the horn a few times and waited nobody came out! I’ve emailed and called the landlord no response, I’ve seen some of the neighbors and they’ve said they don’t know who’s it is, the ones that know me wouldn’t really park there because they know nobody parks in anybody’s space it could be someone from the other flat possibly because there are two buildings with 4 flats each and we all share the drive but it’s rare this happens?

What would be the best thing to write on the note? I need some suggestions!

It is clear that they've parked in a private parking space? ie are there signs either on entrance to the drive or on each space?

Could anyone nearby be renting their spot on Park My Car (or whatever) and they've got the wrong place?

Symphony830 · 11/07/2024 14:15

Ring the bells of the other flags. “I’m so sorry to disturb you. I’m from Flat Number X a car is in my space (Honda Civic or whatever) is this your’s or a visitors?

If no luck then a note on the windscreen asking them not to park in your designated space again and that there are no on-site spaces for visitors FYI.

If they return and park in this car park again. I doubt very much that they’ll park in your numbered space. People do this as long as they get away with no notes or confrontation!

Flowerpowerr1 · 11/07/2024 14:16

@CharlotteBog Each parking spot is numbered with the door number of each flat, nobody usually parks in anyone’s space because they just know not to so it’s very unusual? They are still there I can’t believe it as if they’ve just dumped their car and gone somewhere ffs

You can check online if it's taxed and mot'd

If it's not, call the police.

Flowerpowerr1 · 11/07/2024 14:28

@MollyJustMight Thats the first thing I done and it’s all in check unfortunately 🤣

ifonly4 · 11/07/2024 14:29

If you're not willing to block them in, then a note under windscreen saying it's a designated space, please do not park here again.

Flowerpowerr1 · 11/07/2024 14:29

@Symphony830 My husband is going to ring everyone door bells let’s see if we find out who’s car it is 🤞🏻

You get lots of threads on here about CF’s who have rented out parking spaces they don’t own so I also think it’s worth checking these websites.

I can’t believe you didn’t do this earlier. You’re perfectly capable, you didn’t need to wait for your husband to do it for you.

DinnaeFashYersel · 11/07/2024 14:38

Check your space has t been rented out on justpark

I once rented a space which was allocated to a flat in a block (akin to OPs, but larger).
It was not at all clear to me which space was the one I should park in; the sign had a vague "parking for flats 1-20" or something. While I presumed this meant I could park in any of them, I could feel the collective curtain twitching really wasn't comfortable doing so. There was no answer when I rung the bell of the flat number of the space, but fortunately another resident was around and confirmed that I could use any of them.

Well since it's clear to them that they shouldn't be parked there, the note can say "You are parked in a private parking space. Please move you car and do not park here again".

I presume you just want them gone, and not a big explanation or reassurance they won't do it again ie car goes, get on with your life.

Since your flat number is on the space, if they do have a valid reason then they can put a note through your door.

Are you that much of a wimp you can't do that yourself?!

JimNast · 11/07/2024 14:57

When I had an allocated space, it wasn't enforceable, so in theory anyone could park there. Yours might be like that.

TwinCheeks · 11/07/2024 15:04

Dog shit under the handles.

Or passive aggressive message and photo on the local FB page.
